/balding/ and /finasteride/ general - hair is love, hair is life!Sticky: http://tuxbell.com/index.php/BaldingReminder that if you can clearly see down to your scalp when your hair is wet, your hair is thinning, lots of small new hairs sprouting at the hairline or crown is a sign of hair recession.Holy trinity:Tabs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinasterideLotion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MinoxidilShampoo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KetoconazoleFinasteride/Dutasteride are 5-alpha reductase inhibitors that prevent free T from being converted to DHT, a byproduct of testosterone that serves no purpose after puberty but to choke out your hair follicles and make them thin out and die in a few short years, a condition known as androgenic alopecia.5ar inhibitors prevent your hair from getting any worse, mild regrowth is expected, rapid onset diffuse thinners see a significant recovery on fin alone. Can be taken orally or topically.5ARIs are not dosage dependent, taking as little as as 0.2mg daily fin can reduce serum DHT by 68%, while 5mg reduces by 72%.0.5mg daily dut reduces serum DHT by 95%, but is considered a second line treatment, and can be more expensive and harder to get prescribed. Start with fin.Fin has been used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) for 30+ years, it's very well studied and is tolerated well in almost all men, however, there's a 1-2% risk of erectile issues in controlled studies. These can be avoided by reducing dosage, spacing out dosage, or stopping the drug. Fin takes days to fully bio-accumulate, the half life of fin is about 8 hours, adverse effects occuring within minutes of starting fin or persisting long after stopping fin are not real and have no basis in reality. Please note that dut has a much higher half-life of 5 weeks, if you're prone to fin sides, dut may cause them for far longer.Refer to https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3481923/ before responding to PFS trolls.
Minoxidil (liquid and tabs) is a vasodialator that opens potassium channels and widens blood vessels bringing nutrients to your hair follicles, stimulating them into thickening, accelerating growth and elongating the growth phase. Min is taken with fin to restore your hair to it's original hairline, thickness and vigor when hair loss is caught early enough, (pre-NW2). Can be taken orally or topically.Topical min does not work in 1/3 of men because they lack the required enzymes in their scalp, all men have this enzyme in their liver so the oral route is a good fallback. The FDA formulation for 5% liquid minoxidil is food safe (vape juice, ethanol and water) and can be safely taken orally if oral min tabs are expensive or rarely prescribed where you live. As a general rule, ~4 drops (0.1ml) = 5mg minoxidil. There's a 1-2% risk of fluid retention with higher oral dosages, start with the lowest dosage possible and work your way up when you're sure it's well tolerated.Ketoconazole is an anti-androgen and antifungal that inhibits DHT on the scalp and used to treat fungal infections of the scalp that may be making your hair loss worse such as seborrheic dermatitis, a condition where you exhibit severe greasy, flaky large dandruff flakes with dried yellow crystals (blood plasma) embedded in the scalp. Some people may only have traction alopecia (hair loss from scratching or friction), but it will not cure androgenic alopecia on it's own. Can only be taken topically.Do not use spirolactone. Spirolactone is a diuretic which, in large doses, inhibits testosterone and, by extension, DHT.It is regularly prescribed as an anti-androgen for male to female HRT, and thus, comes with an astronomically higher risk of sexual side effects in men including ED, gynecomastia, and can cause potassium toxicity.Previous thread>>>18720640

https://www.pmda.go.jp/files/000245812.pdfThis study that I saw on leddit is pretty interesting. Again we can confirm that 2.5mg dut nukes 95-99% of your DHT, and 0.5mg nukes 90% so it's almost impossible for a guy to have AGA and dut not work. If a guy is balding on 2.5mg it's pretty certain that it's another type of balding and not AGA
>>18735063If it was only possible to get a prescription for 2.5g
>>18735063>>18735189The good thing is that most other alopecias don't present in the Norwood pattern, there is lichen planopilaris and that's about it. You can have AGA and stress/health related alopecias as well, they do stack.
>>18735049Hair is neither 'love' nor 'life', you fucking incel.
>7 months into fin>suddenly in a single week I go from having 10-20 hairs on my comb every time I take a shower to maybe 1 strand every other dayIt's actually fucking work, and right on schedule too. Glad I got on it before my density went to total shit, I mean you can tell my hair is thin when it's wet but dry it looks completely normal. When I add minoxidil to my stack it should even out when wet too. Thanks /balding/. I legitimately would have given in to the fearmongering and turned into domehead if it weren't for you.
>>18735060You're the one without the will to live, or fucking wash yourself. Fucking bum.
bad hair shedding immediately after starting Vyvanse. will finasteride stop this?
>>18735301See a doctor
>>18735301are you a woman?
>>18735049>Reminder that if you can clearly see down to your scalp when your hair is wet, your hair is thinningi can see my scalp when my hair is dry, how fucked am i? also, does collagen do anything? i'm using hydrolyzed marine collagen.
Do you think woman care much if your visibly thinning, but look good in a baseball cap which you wear most of the time?
>>18735453hat fishing is a concept for a reason, bro
>>18735453Yes, if you’re wanting a woman in her early 20s or younger. They’re the only ones that matter.
>>18735313they didn’t know either and suggested i give finasteride a try. doctors are fucking retarded jack of all trades, they don’t know about specific issues>>18735382obviously not
>>18735667Then give it a try. It doesn't sound like MPB to me though. Are you losing hair all over your head or just the typical male pattern area on the top of the scalp?
>>18735063but does it nuke the SCALP dht.
>>18735263yet i still have hair and therefore am better off
>>18735667>obviously notobviously you are because that side effect of vyvanse literally only occurs in women kek
>>18735049Should I hop on fin? I'm just worried about the shed. I probably won't hop on min just due to the fact that taking a pill is way easier than rubbing liquids on your scalp.Picrel is a 5-year difference. Left is me at 21. Right is at 16. Looking back it's kind of crazy given how much of my hair falls out every day, especially when I shower. My bedroom floor is just full of loose hairs. It looks like a barbershop.
>>18736230Yes you should hop on fin, that's thinning hair, the hairline itself has receded and honestly it's not that bad yet so there's a lot of recovery potential with fin alone but minoxidil would help that further long ofc. Go talk to a derm or use telemedicine, honestly much more convenient these days.
>>18736230They make minoxidil in pill form
>>18736230>I'm just worried about the shed.Look, the shed is gonna happen. But it will get better. Going bald is forever, the shed is temporary, you have to endure it.
I scheduled an appointment with a very good dermatologist, specialized in trichology. I came from the appointment feeling positive after he told me that I was indeed balding and that I would have to take fin and min. My hair is normal everywhere but the top where I'm clearly balding (30% hair). The issue I have has to do with what he prescribed. He told me I was gonna have to take 5mg oral min every 2 days and 5mg Fin once a week for a year to make sure I dont suffer any sides. This left me relieved but now, after having looked up things, it seems really rare to prescribe 5mg of fin (no, I dont have prostate issues), and I'm wondering if it could have more sides or if it will even do that much considering half life. I obviously will contact my doctor but I also wanted to know what you guys thought from your experience.inb4 "just use a pill cutter"
>>18736426I don't think he knows what he's doing or you misunderstood the directions. Minoxidil should be daily as with fin, the half lives are too short to take EOD let alone a fucking week. So many things wrong with this that you have to have misunderstood, there's no way.
anyone buy fin off mark cubans child labor emporium?
>>18736457So I was wrong about min. I do have to take it every day. But he did say that I had to take fin once a week. I founf it weird because of the half life but he told me it was so the sides would be non existent. He's very good so I trust that he knows what he's talking about and I'e already emailed him but still, it doesnt really make sense
>>18736459yeah it's pretty nice, though i buy dut
>>18736460Well fin once a week is going to have non existent sides and almost non existent results lol, fin will be nearly entirely gone out of your body in a few days to 1 week. It would be better to just take 1mg every day. If you were to get sides, and were taking every day, it'd take only 1 week for fin to leave your body, so idk why the derm thinks it would be better for side effects.
Anything less than 1.5mg dutasteride Is waste of money. You may slowdown your loss but you’re not keeping your full hair potential
>>18736485Yeah I don't understand either. I checked the half life data and it doesnt really make sense since it doesnt scale to 5mg. I emailed him and I'll wait and see.Im also a bit nervous about sides desu, I know they stop when you stop taking it but what I develop boobs or something like that. I know it's rare but stil. Also, how do you guys feel about having to buy meds and take them every day for the rest of your lives?
>>18736460This doctor is retarded anon. 5mg fin is absolutely not in any way a dose for hair loss. For instance 1mg is only marginally less effective than 5mg in terms of DHT suppression. Side effects however are exponentially more prevalent in doses used for treating prostate hyperplasia (which is what 5mg is for). Your doctor is quite literally side-effect maxxing for none of the benefits to your hair. Again, you have to have misunderstood I bet he intends for you to split the pill in 4 or 5ths, there is no way someone as reputable as you claim would prescribe this.
>>18736499See that's what I thought. From research it seems like everyone who was told to buy 5mg was just told that so they'd split it but I have the document with the dosages and it does say to take 5mg once a week
I'm 26, and for about two years now I've losing hair in the shower, nothing alarming, maybe about 15-20 strands when I wash my hair. Recently, I've noticed that my hairline, especially in the middle, looks thinner than before. Lately, my sleep habits have been pretty bad and, just to mention some possible causes, I switched brands of shampoo.I’m writing here because I’ve found that topical minoxidil is dirt cheap, and in theory, I should only apply it to my hairline. So, do you think I should give it a try? What scares me the most about this is that, from what I’ve read, it’s a treatment you have to follow for the rest of your life.
>>18736666fix your sleep and lower stressthere is no point to using minoxidil if you aren't going to use it always
How do I know if my hair is regrowing and not miniaturizing if I’m on Dut and oral min (or if Dut and oral min work)?. I either have small hair growing or my longer hair miniaturizing and I can’t tell which one it is. Hairline and scalp only btw, sides are all equal in size.
>>18736731Time, but if dut + oral min isn't working you likely don't have pure AGA.
I've heard mint oil and other extracts can be good for the hair and scalp, do you guys just mix it straight into shampoo or is should I make a solution and rub it into the scalp? I'm not balding but my dad is. I'm probably good for another 20 years and I don't need fin now. I just want to improve my hair health.
>>18736753What else could I have? My thyroid levels are normal.
>>18736486This is false, there's people that make insane recoveries with fin alone because they caught their AGA early enough. If you're NW3 or above already though yeah better off going for dut since it's the nuclear option.
>>18736499>>18736485So my derm just replied and according to him I have to take half a 5mg min pill per day and 1 mg of fin every week. He said it was so the sides didn't occur. Im not balding that much, crown and front are both good, I'm just starting to lose hair on top so maybe that's why
>>18736869He claims fin stays in the body for 3 weeks, and that 5 mg equals 0.8 mg daily
>>18736873Drop him and go with a telehealth company. You're wasting your time.
>>18736917Nah, reading people on Reddit who went to the same doctor, they all had great experiences. It's weird for sure but I assume he's just being careful
>>187369371) its not careful, its reckless and ignorant.2) Its your hair at the end of the day but don't say your second opinion didn't warn you!
>>18736666sleep won't do shit. minox is a lifetime commitment and it's a pain to apply most of oyu retards are too lazy so don't bother.
