I walked by an Omega boutique today and randomly decided to try the white speedmaster and… I liked it. If I were to buy a chronograph I would consider it.Am I.. an Omega guy now?
>>18737218It’s their one good watch
Post your fits with your watches.
>>18737218Can't exactly be an omega guy without owning an omega. That being said, I am not sure why anyone would ever buy a 9k watch period. Nothing can justify spending over $500 on a stainless steel watch other than just showing off and unless you have the lifestyle to go along with it, the watch will be wearing you. This specific omega isn't even a particularly unique looking watch, you can find hundreds of watches that look like that and are just as well made for less than 1/10 of the price.

>>18737249they're easier to buy nowand never say never
>>18737227This exactly. No one here buys $9k watches. They just LARP like they could because someday they hope to magically become wealthy by doing no work. >It's called appreciating the finer things in life. A $9,000 watch is "fine". Totally worth the $8,500 markup because of the branding. So fine. Finer. Finer things in life.LOLOLOL
>>18737247Who is "Dude"?
>>18737227look at mr. money bags over here spending $500 on a watch, when he could spend $250, HALF the amount, on a watch that would that look just like that and just as well made
>>18737252I literally have $40k worth of watches, but alright.
>>18737064
I genuinely don't understand. For years the Royal Oak was regarded as a fuck ugly watch. Genta's Folly. "He must be trolling, this has to be a joke. Where's the real watch?" "He must have come up with this 2 hours ago while hung over." It looks absolutely fucking stupid and now people are paying $50K for it, there are waitlists, watch journoloids suck it off as one of the most beautiful watches ever made and turd worlders are fistfighting each other to scalp Funko Pop plastic versions for 10x retail price. Is this all some psyop I missed? I feel like I'm on crazy pills.
>>18737255>literallyAs opposed to "figuratively" having $40,000 in watches? So you buy the $9,000 ones?So you have four watches?
>>18737257It's tres chic in a very gross way. Like a metal eyesore that sort of looks cool if you look at it a bit.
>>18737257I hear that one, Mugatu. I think they're ugly as well. I think most do. There's peer pressure though and weak-minded people, followers, tend to like what the crowd likes and what others tell them to like. A fucking octagon with prominent screws? It's disgusting. They will just tell you you're POOR for not understanding "the finer things". haha
>>18737258The total is not equally divvied up between the watches, no.Maybe it actually is "figurative" though, I don't know how much I would actually get selling them. But there are no plans to sell anyway.
>>18737254This guy gets it.
>>18737261How many are $9,000 Omegas?
>>18737260It's probably not worth 50K but it's admittedly iconic and easily recognizable. Probably one of the more innovative and recognizable watches of like the past 50 years.
>>18737257It only came back because of rappers who only like it because it's expensive. Rappers are not known to have good taste, they'll even ruin good watches with their crazy tasteless aftermarket bullshit, so of course it's a fad.If you have an original unfucked with Royal Oak and you legitimately enjoy it, whatever. But if you're lusting after diamond encrusted shitters some broccoli hair showed on a twitch stream you're as cringe as they are.
>>18737263I have a $20k omega.
>>18737247>>18737248kek I thought it reads "Royal Rep" on the dial
>>18737265Well, when all the nice designs have been done, I guess it's just enough to be new and different. Sure it's recognizable. I recognize that it's butt-ugly and I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

I just would have thought something as obvious as the sat sun would be something a faker would notice
>>18737311Watch any of the hundreds of youtube videos on the topic and then keep scrolling to find the best deal on the watch you want. Different stores will sell the exact same watch for $130, $179, $250 or more. I've seen the same watch side by side where one is double the price. Just look up "Best 20 Ali-Express Watches under ____(your budget)" and there are plenty of people with lists and quick rundowns. Then when you see one you want watch video reviews of that watch specifically, of which there will also usually be many if it's a popular watch. Or even if it's not. There are guys out there reviewing terrible $35 automatics and just the worst watches you see. After you've done your research just buy it and you'll see that barring some anomalous occurrence, you'll get the watch the reviews promised you and probably be satisfied with it. That's been my experience. And it's a great way to test drive watches you may one day want to spend a lot of money on.
Looking for an automatic watch, and came upon the limited tsuyosa time slip at a pretty good price (around 400€). I like the watch on its own enough and would definitely wear it, but I am thinking of buying it as a investment as well. Worst case scenario if it doesn't work out I just keep it.The prices for this are significantly above that currently on chrono24. Should I go for it or is this a bubble that will pop and people will realize there isn't any demand at those inflated prices
>>18737403>but I am thinking of buying it as a investment as wellNever buy watches as investments, and definitely don't buy non-limited Patek, Rolex, or Cartier models as investments.
>>18737403Watches only lose value once you wear them. But I see people asking ridiculous prices for their used watches all the time so maybe someone is willing to overpay. Sometimes people just have to have a certain watch and will buy the first one they see available. But your special limited edition aside, Tsuyosas are always like 40% off retail price on Jomashop. Meaning they're very popular already and have lost value. Of course maybe in years when they all run out they might go back up. But there will be so many out there so probably not. And you'll have worn yours.
>>18737404It's a very soft investment. There is another watch I would be about as happy with that's like a 100€ cheaper and even if I really get stuck with his I won't be upset.Although after some further research it appears those listings are highly inflated so I am probably getting stuck with it if I buy it
>>18737408It's an 8k limited run for this one so not that many, but from what I am reading 8k isn't all that scare for the watch world.
>>18737409Imagine approaching spending money on a watch you dread the possibility of "being stuck with".
Just meaning people love that watch and you will too I'm sure.
>>18737411I wouldn't do it, if I wanted to play stock market I would do that, but since the watch aligns both with my tastes and budget I am thinking of it as a very low risk investment. There is a very decent chance I wouldn't sell even if it went a couple of hundred euros up in price.
>>18737374His was. The standard Must/ Louis is not.
>>18737403You will never get back the sale value. My watch was 250 bucks new. 10 years ago, you could buy one for 30 bucks. Now, the prices have gone through the roof... to 200 bucks.
>>18737418I have to know which $30 watch was ever also $250.
>>18737064Why does Longines keep using that shitty wings logo?It really prevents me from buying their watches. It looks like Invicta and Breitling, it looks cheap.
>>18737423Just buy the one on the right without it if you care so much. Breitling is cheap? I know Invicta is, but they also have a really deep history and make an apparently good diver for $100. But I'd never buy one with the awful wings counterbalance on the second hand.
>>18737421Basically any 70-80s quartz watch. Most are still cheap.
>>18737424>Just buy the one on the right without it if you care so much. The one on the right doesn't exist, retard. If it did, i'd buy it.
I returned a shitty handheld gaming system and some shirts and I took it in credit but I'm kind of sick of aliexpress watches. I can't think of any that I even want. And I'm finding you can't trust a lot of non-watch items from there. I have no idea what to get.
>>18737311Some brands are just genuinely really good.Ixdao makes some of the highest quality ones for example. They also literally had one guy assembling them for a while so you had to wait for months between batches to get your watch, they are scaling up production now though.San Martin is also really good and so are Cheonos and Phoibos. Jianghun as well, it's the sister brand of San Martin and makes even more premium pieces. Then of course there is Sea-Gull, who is a genuine watch maker with history and not a value proposition microbrand. Although be aware that there are a ton of seagull budget imitiations going around in the market by companies like Sugess, Seagull doesn't make particularly cheap watches.
>>18737426You show me a picture of something and I'm a retard for not assuming it's some kind of tomfoolery altered image scam not to be trusted?Fuck you, buddy.
>>18737430Only Aliexpress brands give you the option to buy with or without a logo, pal.
>>18737429I have a couple of the "imitation budget" Sea-Gulls that cost about $150. A $200 Red Star 1963. They're perfectly good watches and I've never heard anyone complain about them. Nor have I seen anyone ever claim the $650 'Seagull" watches are worth the money.
>>18737432It still has the name. No one offers the name, the name AND logo, or a sterile dial. And you can't quantify your assertion anyway.
>>18737311San Martin is the GOAT.I have a lot of respect for what they do.https://youtu.be/7HK5G_-0Ixg?si=GSlbMrBcFhrTnNNL&t=359
>>18737432If they have mock-up photos available of what the option would look like then clearly people want it and the company has taken notice. There's probably a prototype on the way based on the image.
>>18737423>looks cheap. If anything, the cringe "ULTRA-CHRON!!!!!11" text on the dial makes it look cheap. It's like how the other Swatch properties just put random crap on the dial (Powermatic, Khaki, Co-axial, etc) because "more text = more better".
>>18737382I love that I scared that troll away just by imitating him for a couple posts. Watch him come back soon with a brand new gimmick.
>>18737438I'm genuinely happy for you. I think it might be the first time in history that pretending to be retarded accomplished something. And, not for nothing, your performance was very, very convincing.
>>18737437The Ultra-chron logo doesn't bother me for some reason. That's a movement spec, it's like Grand Seiko high beat line, or Bulova's hertz. But for some reason, only the wings get on my nerves, i think it's really the Invicta association that i don't like.
>>18737438He's just crashed out from a few days of meth. Imagine a hobo in Arizona claiming he's a "targeted individual" and he's not methed up. Which is also how he'll pronounce 'messed up' when he loses his teeth.I'm sure he'll be back whining about "them" and posting blurry old navitimers as soon as he gets some food and a few pipe rips into his system after his lengthy catch-up nap.
>>18737441>That's a movement specNot a particularly impressive one. The movement is just an ETA 2824 modified to run at 5Hz instead of 4. (That's a big reason why they used a solid caseback.)The difference between an Ultra-Chron and a regular Chronometer isn't much either. The mean daily rate is still +6/-4 seconds per day. It's just certified by Timelab instead of COSC.
>>18737443In that price range it's a great movement. What's the cheapest COSC certified watch?
>>18737444>What's the cheapest COSC certified watch?Probably something Tissot makes. Heritage 1938? I'm not going through their whole catalog, but they're under 1000 USD.Interestingly enough, the Ultra Chron movement and the COSC spec PowerMatic80 are the same movement, just with a different balance wheel to increase the frequency to 5Hz (and reduce the power reserve from 80 to 50-something hours)
Thinking about buying a vintage Oyster Perpetual.
>>18737444You don't need COSC to get a really accurate movement. There are Swiss brands like Tissot, Certina, and Mido that have super accurate movements with 80 hours power reserve in the range of $300-$500.
>>18737433I am not trying to pretend they are bad watches, Sugess might make imitation seagulls but they also genuinely make decent watches. And the pattern for the 1963 Seagulls has also expired, so it's perfectly within their right to make "homages".I am just trying to educate anon because I was looking to buy a 1963 as well and was confused with the price disparity.
>>18737333yes, a few threads ago someone posted it. personally i don’t see the big deal, it looks cheap.
>>18737371are you sure this is not a fake? shouldn't dial have small 5s all over it?
>>18737311there are no good watches on ae
>>18737447>the Ultra Chron movement and the COSC spec PowerMatic80 are the same movement,I know where you're going with that.Achtually, they are different movements, more specifically they don't use the same plastic escapment.
>>18737454https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbdZGxpX2Mk
>>18737457That's objectively untrue. Only an ignoramus would post such a lie.
>>18737458You're veering into some very nerdy territory.
>>18737463>ignoramusthe gloves are off
>>18737458>the COSC spec PowerMatic80This one doesn't use the plastic escapement either. Swatch makes many different levels of the PowerMatic80. Longines, being positioned as an entry-level luxury brand, cannot be seen to be using the same pedestrian movement as a Tissot, so they tweak it slightly and give it an in-house-sounding caliber name. Also, stop relying on ChatGPT. It's not good for your mental and intellectual health.
>>18737449>Thinking about buying a vintage Oyster Perpetual.Do it. They're great watches. Comfortable, accurate and reliable. Rolex will still happily service them too. It's one of the few Rolexes that don't come with all the Rolex baggage.
>>18737466>cannot be seen using the same pedestrian movement as Tissot
Where is the kofe time guy?
>>18737458>Achtually, they are different movementsThey're really not. They're all just modifications of the ETA 2824-2 that has been around since the early 80s (and whose basic architecture has been around since the 40s when it was being made by Eterna.)The Powermatic 80 (a.k.a. the C07.111) is a 2824-2 that has had the mainspring and escapement replaced to give it longer power reserve. It comes in a variety of grades. The low-end version has some plastic components and is not intended to be serviceable. The higher-grade COSC version does not have plastic components and is intended to be fully serviceable. It would have to be, since the movement receives the chronometer certification, not the watch. If they replaced the movement, they'd have to issue you a whole new chronometer certificate with it.
>>18737466>Longines, being positioned as an entry-level luxury brand, cannot be seen to be using the same pedestrian movement as a Tissot, so they tweak it slightly and give it an in-house-sounding caliber name.desu, it's not worse than other entry-luxury brands using a top grade Sellita SW-200.It's just that Swatch has his own SW-200 at home. The Longines movement is so refined that it has none of the defaults of Powermatic80 used by a Tissot PRX.
>>18737464Those watches are thousands of dollars purchases, i want to know what's under the hood.
>>18737429All true but Ixdao is in a league of it's own. The Engineer and Warrior are legitimately competing with watches 10x the price. Engineer held next to an actual Ingenieur are indistinguishable from each other. I believe Sea-Gull might be as well but I haven't personally verified this.
>>18737476>desu, it's not worse than other entry-luxury brands using a top grade Sellita SW-200.I didn't say it's a bad movement. But to insist that it's some completely unique movement is just an exercise self-delusion. If one likes the watch and thinks it's fairly priced, then they should go for it. But it's not got a super-caliber movement either.
>>18737484I like this one a lot. Not so sure about the trident counterbalance though. But if you think of it as some kind of devil's pitchfork in the fires of hell it's pretty cool. I don't really believe in all that though. 37mm is one of my favorite sizes and the Miyota 9015 is a great movement for under $350 and that's not considering the finishing and cool dial. I will have an IXDAO someday.
>>18737487This really all stems from a little graphic on a dial and you thinking it's nothing worth promoting? You're hardcore.
>>18737489>Not so sure about the trident counterbalance thoughI'm with you, it kinda bugs me too. But don't sleep on it, they exhaust production runs and go out of stock sometimes.
>>18737489It's supposed to be based on the Mongolian Nine-Striped White Banner but in their diver watch they have also paired it with a Poseidon stamp which works really well together.
>>18737496
>>18737496I feel like I have six or seven watches with enough in common with that one that it won't feel fresh. It will be some different one. Tank, chrono, small seconds. Something that's not another automatic with a date.
>>18737500Well you can't really buy the Engineer anymore. IWC put enough pressure on them and got their way, and Ixdao stopped making them. They were $299 new, and used ones are going for $800 now, mint with plastic is $1k+ on chrono24. And there's only like 4 for sale. I was just making a testament to their quality.
>>18737496>>18737503nta but i didn't buy the IXDAO engineer at the time because it was 40mm.I don't like their replacement model because they don't have the rivets, that's what makes the look.
>>18737491No. that was a different argument, where I contend that Longines (and nearly all brands, really) put way too much extraneous text on their dial. The watch in >>18737423 looks better without the applied logo. It would look even better without the applied wiggle thing disrupting the sector dial lines. If it just said >LONGINGESunder the 12 o'clock it would be perfect. They can put the ultra-chronometer and automatic stuff on the caseback.
Watchdives makes good Aquanauts, and the branding is not intrusive.

>>18737617>>18737644My question is what lead this guy to believe this? Did the interviewer say something about his watch? Just a friendly conversation, or backhanded compliment or what? I feel like there's no way the interviewer was like "sorry, man, we're not hiring dudes wearing quartz timex."
Has the following or something like it happened to anyone else?>Be fat as fuck (though thankfully not short or bald)>Be into watches>Build a nice collection of watches>Lose a ton of weight>All of a sudden I can wear nice clothes, properly fitted, instead of baggy outfits>Gradually lose interest in watchesI still like nice watches, but I really don't see the need to keep more than a Rolex and a dress watch. Maybe something super-casual for the weekend.
>make a good looking dress watch, the Moneta>give it a shitty solar quartz movement>finally decide to make a manual version>make it a secret limited edition of 999 models unlisted on the site>make it the ugliest shit color possibleWTF is wrong with them? Does it mean that they will perfect it before releasing an unlimited version?
>>18737658it's because watches fit on anyone you fucking idiot, whereas when you were a fat cunt you hated buying clothes because they might not fit (and always made you look fat)problem is, regardless if you are fat, thin or in between, you will not be happy, as show by >though thankfully not X
Tissot Le Loce automatic for $485 or Junghans Max Bill silver dials quartz for $720. Context is an office for an entry-level accountant. The Junghans would have a white dial and the pictured Tissot is a different watch, can't find a comparison with a Le Loce.
>>18737658Congrats anon>>18737667lol, you're bitter someone else made something of themselves and you're...still working on it? Or have you given up?
>>18737658>>Gradually lose interest in watchesIt's not that you're losing interest in watches, per se, it's more that you can now dress more fashionably so your attention is divided between nice clothes and nice watches.>i.e. that five grand you had sitting around that you were going to turn into a Speedmaster or something can instead be spent on a nice suit, some shirts and trousers, a great pair of shoes, etc. There's a reason that the people who are super into watches are physically repellant. Normal people are just looking for a couple of nice watches that act as accessories to complement an outfit. At the same time, you're also more aware of other accessories and luxuries you never really considered when fashion was unavailable to you. Things like really good luggage, for instance.

>>18737675>There's a reason that the people who are super into watches are physically repellant.Truth nuke. This general doesn't really seem to be very helpful to people who just want to get a small set of watches to complement their fits. It's people who will happily wear unwashed cargo shorts and an oversized anime t-shirt with an expensive watch.
>>18737709>2k solarLmao no. If I am going to spend 2k on a watch it has to be a piece of art that I am going to be able to pass to my children.
>>18737722The dials are really pretty on these and they're well finished watches. Compare that to something like a Christopher Ward with a bog standard sellita for the same price and which is really more of "a piece of art"?
>>18737728No one in their right mind should be spending 2k on an electronic watch. I love citizens solar powered watches but you shouldn't be spending anything above a high quality watch on them, which is around $500. Bullshit pricing like 2k should at bare minimum be on a watch that doesn't have an expiration date.
p comfy
>>18737746>high quality watch>around 500lol. There are good watches out there for 500 bucks sure but high quality is not the term I would use. Also where do you get the idea that these have an expiration date? As long as you don't shove it in a pitch black drawer for 30 years it will last, yes some servicing may have to be done to keep it running long term but that's the same as a mechanical watch.
Whos worse, "finishing" fags, or people that complain about rotor noise? You really have to be a cluless, uninformed suburbanite slob to believe
>>18737750>high quality is not the term I would use. Then you are a fool. There are plenty of $500 watchyed with the same quality as 2k watches because there is only so much you can really do after a certain price point, and without using some rare materials or using some unique one of a kind movement, it really isn't hard to achieve the same quality at that price point.Even if we disregard the fact that you wildly overestimate the cost of achieving a truly high quality watch, there is no amount of finish or polish that can justify spending 2k on a steel watch that won't even be running after a couple of decades. You are getting taken for a ride no matter what at that price, but wasting it on something you can't even pass down is complete nonsense.

Big watches on the wrist aren’t always bad. They too can be a fashion statement. It projects a bold, confident presence, and if the color combinations and supporting fit look good, then it can work.

>>18737711>This general doesn't really seem to be very helpful to people who just want to get a small set of watches to complement their fitsThat's mostly because if you're just looking for a small "capsule wardrobe" of watches, the answer is obvious.- A casual/sports watch (Sub, GMT-M2, Speedmaster, etc)- A daily watch (Datejust if you're more casual, something like a JLC Master if you're more dressy)- A dress watch (Cartier Tank Louis)- A weekend flashy watch (Hublot, H08, APRO, etc)

He’s the loser who spams LV watches without saying anything, posts AI pics and now trolls as a “hobo” (clearly mocking the “hobo watch” thing). You can tell because he’s posted no AI or gangstalking stuff in this thread since getting destroyed in the last one.He realized the AI thing wasn’t getting to me and that I just ignored it so he created the Hobo watch persona to be even more grating. There’s literally no reason for someone to be as unhinged and creepy as that guy is. Disliking me/ thinking I am annoying is one thing but that guy has like an issue or something. He reminds me of pic related from Steve martins the jerk
>>18737853You're clearly insane, dude. You're in the other thread accusing me of being the hobo and also everyone else you think is after you. >>18737901I made it clear you are getting taken for a ride either way, you are just taken more so for a ride with an electronic watch since there are more ways to make an automatic watch unique and worth more (but that obviously depends on any individual watch) Mechanical watches also don't need replacing the moment something stops working.
>>18737931People think that a watch can only wear you if it's too big for you, but it can also wear you when it's too expensive for you. If a Rolex dominates your whole persona like that, it's wearing you.
>>18737987>since there are more ways to make an automatic watch unique and worth moreCan you explain why "unique" has value? My watch is 1 of 1, I've never owned a watch I haven't modified. Mechanical watches often need replacing the moment something stops working. Some parts rape the mainplate when they fail, and at that point you might as well do a full movement swap. All that matters is dial, dial finishing, hands, hand finishing, case, case finishing, and bracelet + bracelet finishing. The movement is whatever, a 5 dollar quartz gumball watch will keep better time than COSC slop.
>Welcome to COSC, I love you
>>18737989This. I've been interested in watches for a couple of years now and every major watch purchase I've made has been mechanical, and I've never understood the extreme levels of movement autism that some people have. A sweeping seconds hand is something that I can visually see, so a higher beat rate makes a difference to me, so does power reserve, outside of that though I honestly dgaf about the movement. I recently bought a COSC certified longines and the accuracy is nice, I can tell the difference especially over the course of a few days, but I don't set my watch accurately enough for it to seriously matter desu
>>18738025It's all cope to deal with buying crappy watches. If sweeping seconds was important to you, you'd own an accutron or spring drive. The weird "middle ground" where you don't really care about sweeping seconds or you're not interested in the superior dead beat seconds is where middle managers and other soulless creatures live.
>>18737663and of course they had to make it bigger now that they need to fit a manual movement inside, and yet still twice as expensive, nice "manufacture" you guys got thereI like the dial though, you've been spamming this watch and more generally this brand for months and it's the first model that I think actually looks good (or at least would at the original 37mm)
>>18738036The solar ones have nice neutral dials (white, blue) but it's solar, i hate it.The manual model is only released this week, so i haven't been spamming it.I've posted picrel tho, it's that microbrand that has released a 37mm with the same "patek" style. I didn't buy it either because i'm not into microbrands (fake names, fake identities), but it looks like a good watch.

>>18738059>this grained dial texture is definitely the new meme for entry level brands looking for something simple but less boring than sunburst, we're starting to see it everywhereIt's also much easier and cheaper to produce than a sunburst.
and the previous model had a textile dial lmao
>>18738059I immediately think less of any microbrand that tries to pull a "Our history". That's for the big boys, as a micro brand you should offer higher than average watches at lower than average prices to make up for any lack of name. Trying to pretend you are a name when you are not just gives the impression of a scam.
