why don't *you* make a new one? I think they are still a good starting point, even with some frags being discontinued. If you're not able to start from these two and from the OP, you're not gonna ngmi anyway.

Bought jojoba and those roll-on thingies and some more oils.

First try ended in massive failure because I went on without a dropper, hoping to just drop from bottles. Of course some oils flowed like water so I screwed up ratios I had planned. Fortunately all of these were heart/top (sage, oregan, bay), so they just nuked my nose with herbs/camphor and eventually evaporated, leaving a pleasant but boring hay/oakmoss/vetiver/patchouli/texas cedar aroma.

I'll buy good lavender, frankincense, clary sage and labdanum oils, and see what I can do with that. I have no idea where I can take this. I want wild thyme but I can't find it anywhere.
>>
>TF Oud Wood

Creamy woods with spices and resins. Light medicinal sweetness. No evolution, very linear. Sometimes a smoky, resinous note is perceived, reminiscent of incense. It's the Vetiver. Unfortunately, there's a very realistic plastic aftertaste in the background, like latex gloves or the aroma of a shop selling counterfeit plastic bags.

P.S.1 I need to keep trying this one, but that plasticky note ruins the experience.

P.S.2 By the way, the bottle is gorgeous.

Hay absolute — 14 drops
Texas cedarwood — 9 drops
Oakmoss — 6 drops
Bay laurel — 3 drops
Coriander seed — 3 drops
Thyme — 2 drops
Patchouli — 2 drops
Gurjun balsam — 1 drop

What is your goal with fragrances? Are you trying to experience new things, build a wardrobe, discover what your taste is, etc? I think most people will benefit from sampling older classics to understand how the craft has developed over time, how each genre started, and how trends evolve. The flow chart is also the more useful OP image. The categories are handy for discovery if you find something you like and want similar stuff, or want a few leads on a specific profile you already have in mind.

A little bit of all those, I kinda know what my taste is and which bottles I would like to buy, I would probably be happy with them.
I still want to explore more just for the sake of it and keep collecting samples and experiencing them just as a hobby.
I barely even go outside since I work from home anyway, I just want to be more autistic about it.
I guess I'll just keep buying more and more samples that seem interesting to me.

Have you tried it before. I personally hate it.
It's a classic eau de cologne with a leather accord, similar to AdP Colonia Intensa, but it has this cumin note which, to a lot of people, smells like armpit.
>>
>>18737808
Never tried it. Decided to pull the trigger on it and a partial of 1978 Eau Sauvage. I'll probably like it, I like stuff like kouros and orto parisi so maybe a little bit of armpit could be the move.
>>
Is vintage Fahrenheit worth it?

Not typically a vintage hunter, but I’ve gone after a few select vintages for the experience and enjoyed my previous vintage purchases.

Whatcha think Fraggots?

It’s not like I have some deal on the line, in fact I’ll probably end up overpaying just because I’m not looking to wait months or years for some steal to show up, but it won’t break the bank either.

>>

it might be what you're looking for, it's like the original but with added resins, which do givve a bit of warmth and sweetness. they are also quite incensy.
I prefer it over the original and it's one of my favorites
>>
>>18737970
I’ve never seen a new release at Ross before. Jealous of your pickup. I paid retail. How much was it?
>Luxe
Luxe was pretty cheap when I bought it. $15 on Amazon. Legitimately one of the sexiest smells I’ve ever tested. Too masculine for my personal wear (foid), but I like putting it on my bedsheets. It smells identical to Dolce & Gabanna’s K Parfum Intense. It’s a heavy musky blue scent. It’s similar in family to Absolu, but much more rounded and mature imo. Polo 67 is definitely an “everyman” scent.
>>
>>18737978
>Never seen a new release at Ross
Yeah it’s been happening more and more these past few months, I dunno what’s happening but I’m not complaining

Had the coolest experience ever yesterday in a niche perfume store and it's thanks to /frag/, you autists got me into a hell of a hobby.
>In the mall with a friend just after shooting some hoops
>We come across this store that had a huge Sospiro banner in front of it
>"wtf i've never seen this before"
>As we enter, we are greeted by the salesperson, an older woman in a blazer
>She takes us to try a few Sospiro frags, some PdM and I show some designers to my friend who's not into frags
>He falls in love with Tobacco Vanile, as one should
>I start to sperg out about a few niche frags that I've tried and the lady does too, begins to school us in niche scents, notes and raw materials, their origin and season of the year in which they are available
>Turns out that she is actually trained in perfumery and knows about pretty much every frag's scent profile, the story behind them and the house's intent for the frag
>Introduce her to some niche frags that she didn't know about, she's legit curious and we talk about our tastes
>"Since you enjoys fragrances so much, would you like it if I invited you to an exclusive Masterclass for a Tom Ford release we are having next week?"
>She can only invite customers but opens an exception for me
Honestly I felt bad for not buying anything, I made it clear from the start that I only wanted to introduce my friend to niche frags but the treatment was so premium that I actually wanted to buy a niche there. I won't though, as the mall tax makes it so a $300 frag I can get online becomes a $500 one. She had me try a few Tiziana Terenzis, got to know more about Regalien frags and even tried a few interesting Initios. She helped me find the perfect scent for me, and all the talk we had made me want to learn more so it's a great win.
>>18737645

This thread really needs to start calling out people that use this word as a compliment.
It’s masstige.

57 KB JPG
>>18738104
I know, that's why even though I felt bad, I recognize that she was doing her job as a good salesperson to attract me to buy the product. I liked the interaction, I'll take everything I learned from that and buy it cheaper from trusted sources
>>18738146
While I understand your desire to refine the thread's vocabulary, I still think niche applies. Masstige is true for Dior, Chanel and LV, designer brands that are marketed as luxury for the masses and are famous as such, even in this thread. Now, avoiding your selection bias because not everyone is a frag enthusiast, the products that I got to know are niche by definition of the word, specialized products that appeal to a small portion of the population, not only because of the prohibitive price point but because of the specialty in something that isn't mass produced or produced for mass appeal. I do concede that some niche houses are going masstige, but I feel like in frag talk, niche also covers that. We all know when it really isn't niche.

Tried Givenchy Society Sport yesterday. It feels like its trying to do a similar thing to Dior Homme Sport and the drydown reminds me a bit of of Nishane Ambra Calabria (citrus+green+amber/vanilla). Fairly interesting for a fresh designer release.
>>
>>18738146
Those words refer to two different things. There is no situation where masstige can replace the use of niche or designer. Masstige is a quality that can apply to either category.

Damn it’s kind of crazy what oxidation will do to a frag.

I bought a ELDO sampler back in Dec 2023, most of the vials were clear or slightly yellow tinged, Rien being the one exception which was fairly dark yellow.

It’s been in a (dark) closet since then, relatively heat controlled, and like half of them turned various shades of yellow, Tom of Finland and Une Amourette turned pink.
>>
>>18738383
My sister-in-law let me try her ELDO sample set and keep a few vials I liked. Love Hermann, but she did tell me the set was 3+ years old and colors were all as you mentioned, so don’t know if the scent is fundamentally changed. I don’t want to pay for a full bottle if it doesn’t smell the same :( Have you noticed any changes scent wise?
>>
>>18738387
I haven’t actually retested anything yet, I pulled it out of storage because I was planning to do so, but have ended up working on some of my other sample backlog.

On top of that, it was the first set of frags I ever really took time to smell and appreciate, so no doubt my nose and opinions have changed.

If the frag has really turned I might notice, but otherwise I doubt I’ll be able to really differentiate.

What are some niche of the niche type of fragrances?
Side Note: The original Encre Noire smells a lot more niche to me than many Amouages, Creeds and Tauers etc that even smell mass appealing to me in comparison.
>>
SOTD: Platinum Al-Rehab
Smells like Egoiste but with a hint of resinous woody balsamic drydown. Longest lasting freshie I ever wore.

SOTD: Unironically, Yara.

Hate all the flankers and put off trying the OG since its release bc it was “viral.” One of the few that’s worth the hype, but it does NOT small like a strawberry milkshake. It’s a lightly warmed plastic coconut. It smells like classroom on a rainy day. Bought the rollerball a few weeks ago. Perfume just delivered. First time winning a giveaway in my life. Thought they were all fake or my luck is from hell.

My love of aquatics and Oud have always coexisted. Before Arabians were trendy, I was ordering Swiss Arabian from Britain and waiting a month to get it. I wore vintage Nautica (Blue), Attar Al Ghutra, Rose Malaki, and Oud Maknoon. Couldn’t afford and probably wasn’t even aware of niche at the time.

Ok, i received these 3 samples, it's 3 thumbs down.

>Premier Figuier smells like nothing, i can't detect it.
>Xerjoff Erba Pura, barely better.
>Parfum de Marly Greenley, at last i can detect this one, smells like generic female citrus

I'd keep my Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi over any of these any day of the week.

Everybody has a different nose, you can't really say.
I've seen many comments about Erba Pura saying it was great.
>>
>>18738696
Erba Pura is known to be a cloying powerhouse. I’m surprised anon can’t smell it. I’ve never tried it, I wouldn’t know. Maybe there’s ambroxan, maybe anon is sick.
>>
>>18738696
i can safely say that Erba Pura is slop and a nuclear frag and i will be right
>>
>>18738087
all of this happened in your mind exclusively sotd zino
>>
>>18738700
Yeah, i'm starting to wonder if my nose is not fucked up, kek.
I've worn a lot of ambroxan for years, i stopped wearing Montblanc Explorer because people said my fragrance gave them headaches.

You got into perfumes over 2000 years ago?
>>
>>18738686
I haven't tried Extreme but the regular Premier Figuier and if you can't smell it there is something wrong with your nose. You either fried it with overpowering fragrances or you're sick.
>>
>>18738769
Gas station brands like Lattafa, obvs.

My nose was bonked today because I'm tired and I wasn't feeling any of my fragrances except for Purple Oud. I had to stop for a cute cat that came when I called. It wrapped around my legs, and kept smelling my perfume.
>>
Why do we become anosmic to some notes and not others?
Which aromachemicals tend to cause the least noseblindness? I'd like to focus on fragrances I can actually smell
>>
>>18738790
Because molecules serve a purpose and when they don't our brain ignores them. Punch yourself in the face each time after wearing the perfume you go noseblind to. Soon enough you will no longer be noseblind to it.
>>
>>18738669
I'm just wearing Terre d'Hermes EDT today

I got iron duke and acrasia as a wedding gift and the girl hated her acrasia. Can't tell if I'm in the wrong for picking it or if she's a bitch.
>>
>>18738828
both
it's probably an interesting frag but why would anyone give it as a wedding gift? she's most probably a noselet so you could've gifted her Delina or something basic like that
>>

On the one hand, I'd get to try frags that are nearly unavailable here in Europe.
On the other hand, €78 for 9 samples (incl shipping, Bon Monsieur not pictured) feels way steep.
Does anybody see any better solution?

>why would anyone give it as a wedding gift?

Because it's literally the best fragrance for a woman ever made and it's somewhat unknown and rare and has a great presentation and a thematic reference that fits exactly what she studies? I also didn't know what else to gift really. Fragrance was the most obvious choice for me, and I wasn't about to get her a Tauer. She is a noselet, but you get out of noseletdom by smelling different and good stuff. This isn't even a challenging scent. It's just good and safe. It's not that expensive either, but it's way out of the budget of anything she has.

I understand not being your thing, but straight up hating it?
>>
>smelling so many ambery samples I start to like them
might pull the trigger on a SWY Intense, to start with the normiest safest option. i think ill wait until autumn though, would be too much in summer
>>
>>18738880
skip the normie stage and buy something more based like Ambre Sultan
>>

>best fragrance for a woman ever made
It's a man's fragrance.
>>
>>18738872
are you by any chance autistic irl?
Acrasia might have been a good choice for wizard lvl fragrance enjoyers (=you and me) but it is by all means a divisive frag according to normie central (fr*grantica)
>>
>>18738763
Try other Orto Parisi or Nasomatto. Idk about hedione but Bergamask is structurally identical to Megamare but with bergamot instead of aquatic notes. If you want ambery woods maybe try Duro?
>>18738851
Those are pretty reasonable prices for a decanter site. I always suggest looking for regional fragrance exchange groups on facebook, though.
>>18738886
Ambre Russe*
>>
>>18738921
>Bergamask is structurally identical to Megamare but with bergamot instead of aquatic notes
So it's an ambrofix-heavy, airy citrus that lasts for days? I gotta blind buy this shit asap
>>
>>18738925
I'm not sure I would call it airy. Its an extrait so that alone will make it quite thick. It also is closer to overripe citrus, not the crisp sparkling juicy stuff most fragrances use. But yes, it does last for days. Just be warned that it's overloaded with javanol (iirc) which is very easy to go noseblind to. I sold my bottle because I couldn't smell it all after 5 minutes.
>>
>>18738929
>overloaded with javanol (iirc) which is very easy to go noseblind to
Ah shit, that's precisely my gripe with Megamare
>>
>>18738696
Overly sweet and fruity but in a bad way, too strong opening that it gives me a headache
>>
>>18738896
You're a man.
>>18738898
>are you by any chance autistic irl?
No, just on 4chan.
>wizard lvl fragrance enjoyers
So Acrasia is wizard lvl now lmao? So what are the fragrances I'm gatekeeping from all of you and everyone else in the world supposed to be? Literal cosmic level? Acrasia is so basic.
>>
What are some wizard lvl scents? Asking for a friend..
>>
If I spray on clothes does the clothes material matter?
Like will it smell differently or last longer on cotton, polyester or some other material?

wait nevermind lol
feel free to consider anything more obscure than Delina 'wizard level'

Jeanne en Provence Néroli Intense

>>
>>18738988
My fragrance.
>>
>>18738988
diy or top shelf artisanal like EO or Areej.
>>
>>18738995
Spraying clothes lasts much longer than skin but the difference between materials might not be enough to matter.
>>
Where do you guys even find scentless deodorant?

I have literally never seen this in my European supermarket, I just buy nivea roll-ons
>>
>>18739028
I've seen some at my local Zoya when I go buy soap nuts.
>>
It's called wizard level because you'll be 30 and bitchless if you wear it.
>>
>>18739008
Why would you want to smell like an Indian?
>>
>>18738988
Look around for anything that starts at 4 figures and work your way up from there. That is firmly outside of the masstige arena, and you're more or less guaranteed to be one of the few people on the internet who owns it and talks about it in the fragrance space. Whether or not it is good is an irrelevant factor. Find something with a limited bottle count, that helps too.
>>
>>18739032
I can confirm from personal experience.
>>
>>18738671
I want to try some of their oils, maybe this one and their AdG take 'Blue'.
>>
How do I fix my stuffed nose?
How do I enhance my own smelling ability so I can appreciate my own fragrance more?
