LOL, you're one of those retards who converted cash to coins because you think the economy is going to tank and those will be worth more than currency. You have a bunker too? Visible swastika. So you're kind of a piece of shit.

Also, this is a joke thread. I'm the poorest motherfucker here and I mainly post "shitters" and made this thread to contain the snobs.

Check out this $25 quartz wonder.
>>
>>18737772
The problem with the watch threads on here is it's usually the poorfags that are the snobs ironically enough. They will shit on you for spending more than 300 dollars on a watch, and it's damn near impossible to discuss anything in the 2-8k range because of that. The truth is all watches are a want and not a need, yes even your 25 dollar Chinese quartz watch. It's 2026. We are all practically mandated to carry smartphones that constantly synchronize with satellites to give us a more accurate time than any watch, quartz or mechanical, ever could. Some of us have the money to spend on 5000 dollar watches. Is it a waste of money? Probably, but so is the "shitter" watch you posted.
>>
>>18737800
You're not wrong. If /wt/ were /jewelry general/ it would probably be more self-aware. At least the /frag/ posters are aware that enjoyment of a cologne can be subjective.
Because watches have a mechanical function, they attract a particular brand of autist who think they can quantify what constitutes the perfect watch. Because they're autistic, they don't deal particularly well with frustration or disagreement.

Watches especially nowadays are just high end jewelry. You are right. I have been posting there for a while and I don't even know what a watch movement is or how they differentiate them from one another- what makes a good or bad one.

That’s actually not true btw. I have Kenneth Cole shitters secondhand hand me downs and also a 500 dollar or something Waltham pocket watch my grandfather was gifted by the railroad company he worked for.

>>18737830
Why do you reply to me constantly, pretend to be a homeless man and spam AI pics to “troll” me if you aren’t obsessed?
>>
>>18737831
Was *given*. No one said "gifted" as a verb until the 1990s. And it's wrong.

Also, I don't think I've ever replied to you before and I don't pretend to be homeless. What's with you people thinking everyone who annoys you is just ONE person?

You and your broken watch and anyone engaging with you are pure cancer and until just now I've had nothing to do with it but wincing when I see your watch or the picture of the fedora virgin doofus wearing it and smiling.

Now that I've seen you post your cutesy emojis about how hilarious it is that you can't even understand how watches work I hate you even more.

Fuck off, schizo. You aren't keeping up very well.
>>
>>18737833
I don't believe you at all. Only one guy gets this worked up enough to spaz like you are doing now. Had you just left me alone instead of spamming every watch thread I'd have gotten bored and left but I came back just to annoy you.
>>
>>18737833
You ruined the general by spamming (I don't care if you want to troll the general just don't use me to troll).

I would have absolutely gone away by now but I came back just because of how ticked off you make me. Other posters there clearly don't like you either.
>>
>>18737834
>>18737838
Dude, I've never engaged you before. And you're clearly describing three different anons who are also not me.
You're clearly just as paranoid and fucked up as the homeless guy, the A.I. guy who hates tanks enough to bug you, and whoever is "replying to you constantly".

I'm one person that most people hate for a very specific reason. I'm my own separate character. I ruined the general? I made this thread and I make all the shitter threads and over half of the generals. I have until today ignored you and your dead Cartier. And I will continue to ignore you after this post. And now you can think there are four people after you the next time some random anon addresses you once.

Fucking schizo hipster faggot.

Six thousand dollars, pal.
I don't need a watch with such "build quality and finishing".
The smooth sweep spring drive (assuming it's that kind) and the dial is what attracts me at all.
Ever since seeing the video of the dude who went to Japan to buy his GS and the second hand was misaligned and they wouldn't refund him, I knew I'd never want one.

But that's just me. I would maybe spend that kind of money on a car but not a watch. I'd sooner spend $6K on a painting really.

it's my first Swiss watch so it'll be special to me forever. ETA classic workhorse with COSC, what reasonable person could be a snob about the name. Though Tissot does unashamedly imitate more expensive brand signatures I will admit.

Hmmm, I'm not a fan of the snowflakes or dots but the Marine Nationale FXD GMT does something to me. METAS and COSC for ~5k is something. The older blue dial model doesn't appeal to me.

Tbh for a next piece I'd move up to Longines Spirit Zulu, that Tudor or a Black Bay, or the Oris Artelier; it's so beautiful bros. Or the Oris Star for the Dan Draper drip. Vintage Omega with 565 movement is calling my name but damn it's a gamble.

Are you complaining that entry-level pieces are entry-level? Come on, now.

Everyone knows there are two Cartiers: one for the entry-level buyer and then the real Cartier. The platinum-case aventurine dial Santos-Dumont is not the same thing as your boss’ wife’s steel quartz Panthère. All she wanted was the name one the dial.

It would have the same finish as the quartz steel watch.
>>
>>18743939
I understand all that, I just don't understand why it's not possible to put a mechanical movement in the same exact watch but made of steel, or why doing so is going to dismantle class structures or something.

I can buy a mechanical santos in steel in any size all day but I can't get a steel santos dumont, panthere, or tank mechanical. They have to be quartz. Is there any actual good reason why? I'm not even saying don't make the quartz versions.
>>
>>18743944
>Is there any actual good reason why?
Probably because the Santos is meant to be a mass-market watch, while the Tank and Santos-Dumont are their most historical flagship models. They probably want to protect the high status of them or something.

(The Panthere has only ever been quartz, so that’s traditional for that model anyway.)
>>
>>18743946
dumont is not more iconic or flagship than regular santos. And by that logic wouldn't the regular be more premium because you're operating on the idea that mechanical makes a watch premium? Your argument makes no sense.

In that particular case I think it's all very Ameribrained, since you need to price out blacks from your general vicinity at all times, and have done this long enough that it became second nature and you forgot the original reason you do it. https://theamericansun.substack.com/p/suburbs-as-defensive-architecture

And then libtards try to call you out without actually understanding what the original issue is. And you argue back equally clueless, because your entire identity is subsumed by politics and a very crude understanding of status (as opposed to blood and soil, peer group, and lasting personal achievement), which is why you'll get into a waiting list to get a particular brand on your wrist (you have no clue about mechanical engineering)

Not that much, actually. Those watches were extremely reliable.* The movements were just slightly modified ETA 2983s. Worst-case scenario, the seals are starting to degrade so it's not 300m waterproof anymore.

I don't know what it is but there's a serious problem of people buying the same watch over and over. Like how many blue sports watches can you buy before realizing your collection has no actual variety?
>>
>>18746682
Yeah it wouldn't exactly be a mass-market product.
But it definitely has the potential to generate hype. It's a Genta design, and it stands out without being too crude. It could appeal to people who vaguely like the iced-out aesthetic but don’t actually want to buy an iced-out watch (especially since those watches have fallen out of favour so much that even rappers seem embarrassed by them now).

Vacheron's revival of the 222 with it's 70s design was a success, so that could serve as inspiration for AP.
>>
>>18746742
Gun owners have the same problem. People post collections that are 50% just a bunch of ar15s all the time.
I think it's just a shopping addiction for these people. Having or enjoying the items comes secondary to the dopamine hit from buying them.

More practically/less subjectively, 38hr power reserve sucks, you have to wear it or wind it every single day, which is especially a pain in the ass with a date to mess with every time it stops
>>
>>18749406
It's one of the few Tudors that isn't a Rolex cope though. If you wear a Black Bay you want a Submariner and if you wear a Prince you want a Datejust. There's no Rolex that looks like the 1926.

That's a good point about the power reserve but 38 hours > 1 day.
>>
>>18749415
>38 hours > 1 day.
If you wear it on Friday and take it off at 10pm to go to bed, 38 hours later is noon on Sunday. If you took it off as soon as you got home from work it's stopped early Sunday morning.
For me if it's stopped on the morning/afternoon of the second day of not wearing it, that practically feels like I have to remember to wear/wind it every day.
If I were you I'd look at longines in that price segment, something like the L2.949.4.73.2 is similar but arguably better

>something like the L2.949.4.73.2 is similar but arguably better
I like it, just a shame that it only comes in 39mm and not 36mm which usually looks better in white.

I just saw this two-tone 3700 at a very reputable, long-established grey-market dealer for €70k ($80k). It comes without box or papers, but with an official extract from the archives and a brand-new Patek service.
Those are almost relatively """realistic""" prices again when you compare them with Day-Dates and Royal Oaks. Maybe if one with a blue dial eventually turns up at that price and in that condition, I might become a Patek owner after all.

It has to be a Nautilus?

Wow. You want that brand so badly you'd drop $80K for a used one?
>>
>>18749380
Get it if you like it. Don't ask the opinions of these snobbish asswipes.

Does anyone, with very few exceptions, really get themselves onto the ‘good boy’ list just to eventually buy a particular watch? Or are they now practically all just suppliers of grey-market dealers?
>>
>>18750085
Some people do that, but it's really the wrong way to approach it and you shouldn't participate in the bullshit if your dealer is being too demanding about it. If they're making you wait years for a simple watch or if they lay it on the line that they expect you to buy so many watches or so many bracelets or sings or some shit before they'll give you a watch you want you're better off going to a different store that is serious about having you as a customer and valuing your time and their own over playing these petty bullshit games.

The store near me gave me the runaround for several years when all I was asking for was a fuckin datejust. I could almost understand if I was acting like I might be just another asshole trying to scalp a rare piece like a daytona or a rare dial OP or pepsi or something, but I was only asking for a basic ass datejust in not even a particularly desirable or rare configuration and they just wouldn't help me. I went to another store farther away and they had the exact watch I asked for within 6 months or so.

Some dealers take the game and the hustle of it all way too fucking seriously, and nobody should tolerate that bullshit if they see it. If I ask for a daytona I'm not asking what hoops I need to jump through or buying a bunch of jewelry for my wife just to try to get the daytona allocation. If that means I have to wait 10 years then that's what it's going to be.
>>
>>18750495
By waiting ten years you are playing their game though. Why the FUCK would you really think a Daytona was not only worth the price, but worth waiting ten years for?

This whole thing is really just so they can make sure you're going to keep the watch? That's preposterous. It's false scarcity.
You're paying for the "brand ambassadors". I got my copy of Time Magazine the other day and the first ad inside and the back cover were for Rolex. James Cameron, Leo, some golfers and tennis people.... It's all so fucking stupid. You're invested in the *idea* of Rolex. The name means something to you for some reason and that's just fucking sad.

Or maybe the guy just likes quality watches, which rolexes undeniably are, unless you're absolutely deluded by hate and jealousy
>>
>>18750505
Yes, I'm so jealous of someone who thinks you need thirty thousand dollars to get quality. And I hate them also.
lol
>>
>>18750500
It's not playing the game because I'm not going along with their carrot-on-a-stick approach of using desirable Rolex to unload toxic sludge from their inventory.

I bought a datejust and I'm really enjoying it, one day I'll probably get another watch that doesn't exist yet like if they make a milgauss successor with the new movement or a 37mm submariner or a titanium explorer or something else kind of fresh and interesting, I'm planning to celebrate my retirement from my career one day by buying a yellow gold daydate. But you're not going to catch me acting like the guy in the screenshot, buying every woman in the family datejusts praying it gets me the daytona call faster. That's what they're trying to make you do. I'm not doing that, I'll never buy a watch I don't want trying to get one I do.

My wife's mother seems to want a Rolex. I guess she's been talking about watches lately and asking about my watches, and the other day she asked me about my Rolex and we talked about watches a little bit. I think she must be looking at getting something nice for when she retires in a year or two. But my wife said it's too much money and if we were going to do it we'd have to get the other siblings to agree and put in money and she doesn't really need a Rolex anyway. But I think it would be a really nice gift. I almost wish my mom gave a fuck about watches so I could get her something cool.
>>
>let's pool the money so grandma can enjoy a Rolex in her dementia years

How fucking ridiculous. What a nightmare.
>>

Granny is still sharp and helping to raise the grandkids.
>>
>>18751130
Get her a replica. That truly makes the most sense. If the experts can barely tell the difference she certainly won't know. And then it's a few hundred rather than over $10,000 or whatever Rolexes, even for ladies must cost.

lol, it's not even your own mom. Sure, everyone kick in $7K so granny can have a REAL Rolex.

You're an idiot. Do whatever you want.

Hint: You won't be buying your mother in law any Rolex.
>>
>>18751148
I'm honestly not seeing the problem. It would probably be more like everyone kicks in $2k, btw.
>>
>>18737719
That's a lot of money for a butt ugly watch.

Is that a lot to ask after hustling your whole life to build up from poverty to a multi million dollar household and push 4 kids into successful adult lives with careers in medicine and engineering? I really don't think it is. If all she wants is a datejust, fuckin hell, get the lady a datejust I say.

>>

I don't know if you realize this, but absolutely nothing about the way they portrayed "poverty" in Married With Children is realistic in any way. There was NEVER a time where you'd have a house like theirs with a big yard and all that shit in it with everyone dressed like they did off of one guy working in a fucking mall shoe store. The Bundys are not the epic capitalism takedown commies act like it is. They're literally not even real.
