Hey /fa/, /tv/ here. Can bowties ever actually look good on a man?Or is every mans face immediately punchable while wearing one?
I wear bowties sometimes as a 30-something clearly probably autistic dude who manages an independent bookstore in a moderately humid climate who typically wears thrifted retro menswear. Obviously this places me within the broad category of "gay and punchable" but my general impression is that /tv/ and other media disproportionately use bowties as a visual shorthand for "dorky tryhard" and so long as you aren't leaning into full ironic Portland hipster and keep the colors and textures reserved it comes across as more "intentionally eccentric" than "total fucking cunt" to most people.Also, only ever wear self tie bowties. Pre-tied clip on one's look like SHIT.

To the OP, here in the South during summer, a cotton bow tie with a seersucker suit rocks and wears cooler than a standard tie. Definitely helps to lean into the retro styling to avoid the nerdy look though. That said, finding people wearing any neckwear is rare so you definitely stand out with a bow tie outside of a tuxedo. Seconding on the self tie as well.
