thoughts on red wing's engineers? so many engineer boots out there are near 1k or even morered wing is offering these for $550. the fake heel is the most glaring place you're sacrificing quality, but in general red wing is very good bang for your buck. i own some iron rangers and pecos and love them both

So when I rush through a comment a lot of keystrokes are missing.That said, the stitching on several parts of the boots were busting/pulling out. the soles themselves were getting thin. I had them only 7 or 8 months, wore them only at work, and at that time I was only working 40 hours a week. Part of what compelled me to spend $360 on their boots in the first place was the 1-year warranty on soles and threads. When the boots wore out fast and on top of that they reneged on their promise to honor their warranty, I realized Red Wing is a shit brand not worth giving money to.
I’m considering some Wescos. Does anyone have any with the MP toe? Is it a more almond shape compared to the standard PNW toes?

>>18753584Engineers are not my thing at all, but I feel like it's good to have a more affordable entry level boot for people who want to give them a shot. The fucked heel will eventually be fixed with a resole or if you really hate it you could get it done immediately and still come in cheaper than most other engineers on the market.

>>18753584They're fine. The black klondike ages really well, though it looks like plastic right off the bat.The only thing to be aware of is that the instep is pretty low. If you've got high arches, break-in is going to be an ordeal.Personally, for a little over $550 I think a stock wesco boss or boss 7500 is a significantly better boot and can be rebuilt.

You'd get them a lot cheaper if you can find a Japanese retailer that ships internationally though, like Speedway Sendai (they only have a few sizes left in stock though, the rest are on preorder). Eastwestapparel also has Lofgren engineers and some engineers from other brands too. Self Edge has Flat Head engineers in stock. Addict Clothes also just released their 2026 boots recently and still have some in stock. Ordering from White's won't have too long of a wait time, just 1-2 months I believe.There are a bunch of other brands and stores around the globe I can't be bothered to find and list right now though.
