I've had people over that I introduced a few samples to, and what I do is pick up a few frags from each category and guide them through their profile, so if it's a citric I call attention to the bergamot, the lavender and vanila in an oriental, etc. It's not like fragrances are just a list of individual accords waiting to be smelled, the blend can evoke different smells for each person. If I try to pick a frag's accords blindfolded and compare it to Fragrantica I'll get half of them right and have at least 3-4 others that are not there but, so basically what >>18743667 said. I had my mother in law try to guess Black Afgano because she hates weed but she loved the mysterious profile and if I had not told her about the hashish note she would never have guessed.

I got through my Un Nuit Nomade discovery kit. Just on tester strips, no skin testing. Frankly? Pretty much everything in there was well made except for Fleur de Fleurs (I went nose blind almost immediately), and Sugar Leather (crazy faint to the point I thought I missed the strip somehow).

Nothing ground breaking, but if there is something you are interested in from them or from someone else and they have a frag which might be a good alternative? Give it a think. Now, that said, there is nothing there I would buy at full price. Immediately my mind thought of them as a mall designer, in that I am surprised their stuff isn't at Macy's or Dillard's. It's on par with Jimmy, or Jo, or Muegler. Honestly, weird comparison, but it's like a cheaper Amouage.

I am going to sit on them for a month or two and give them another go to see if there's anything there I have reconsidered as "needing".

tl;dr - Reminds me of a cheaper Amouage, don't buy at full price look for discounts, the discovery kit wasn't a bad buy.

Tried Nishane Deziro today. It's fucking awful. It has a very potent chemical smell, like washing powder or something similar. Basically, it makes you smell like you just came out of a washing machine. I wonder if it's due to the "Sea notes." Reviews on Fragrantica say that it's a typical blue fragrance and resembles BdC. I never tried BdC, and now I don't really want to.

If Deziro is also very zesty that's probably why it's being compared and if you didn't like that (assuming it has a similar amount of citrus) then I can see you not liking BdC. My opinion on BdC (I own the EDP) is that it is quite strong, astringent even. It makes you smell clean, but the other ingredients don't make you smell like hand soap like you'll see certain frags compared to.

Whatever the fuck is in this that smells so bad. Everyone describes it as a combination of burnt plastic and cheap, fake leather. I would say that's kinda accurate, but it is genuinely repellant and caused my to instantly regret spraying the bottle at all. I got a bottle of Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel, I usually do first impressions but I got it a week ago. My first impression was that it was harsh and dated. After wearing it more I really appreciated the fresh green burst of galbanum in the opening. It's just fantastic and puts me in the hunt for more galbanum heavy scents. Gets a bit of a bathroom cleaner scent which gives it that dated association but I think the freshness keeps it modern because it's so light. You get that chypre effect but it's very wearable and masculine. Surprisingly after the opening burst the fragrance settles down a lot and you get more of that nice smooth violet. It smells great and I'm ok with the performance but it's not what I expected based on what I read. Also I don't get why the review sites list it so low for summer. I'll try it in fall and winter. For me it's best for spring because of the green freshness but it's light enough for summer. I like wearing it to bed after a nice shower. I can see it as someone's signature fragrance. I'm not saying it's 10/10, the greatest ever made, and endlessly complex, but it's certainly one of the most interesting fragrances I have smelled because of the effects it has going on. It's fresh, green, light, and chypre. I was scared because of the aromatic tag and the cheap price but this is the best type of aromatic. I honestly just wanted it for my collection. I didn't expect to like it and for it to make me think.

It's by far the cheapest fragrance in my collection, and the only one under $100 that hasn't disappointed me. If I was a poorfag (I mean I am a poorfag but I'm also financially irresponsible) I would be all over Grey Flannel. I don't delve too much into cheap fragrances but it's a win for something so affordable and easily available. It takes some bravery because of the strong opening and it's a tiny bit dated so it's not for everyone but I think more people should give it a try.

If money isn’t a real concern for you and you enjoy variety, yes. As with any large discovery set expect plenty of flops and mid filler, but you’re also very likely to find at least 1-2 gems and a few really oddball, unique frags that even if you don’t want to own a full bottle, you’re glad to have smelled them (e.g. T-Rex).

Personally I love Penguin and there’s a few others I really enjoy as well but haven’t full bottled.

I wanted to add to this, but I got caught up in something.

Every frag in the kit seems designed to be a people pleaser. None of them are challenging or meant to be collected just to be collected. I am not sure how /frag/ would feel about that, but I could see someone who is just getting into fragrances easily liking the brand (I'm not spelling all that French shit) because everything in here isn't some sort of gimmick, or an out there frag you might wear a few times a year. It reminds me of the Margiela discovery kit where Margiela intentionally put the samples in their small box by the season they intend for you to wear them. Each sample from these guys comes with a card that goes into detail about the fragrance and gives you an idea as to when you should wear it (along with what's in it) albeit in a far less direct way than Maison Margiela does.

I find this stuff really very helpful and I wish that more discovery kits would do things like this, rather than assuming the consumer will just figure it out on their own. Historically, that's been a fairly bad assumption since we're all retarded to some degree.

I only suggest against paying full price simply because nothing in there isn't something everyone here (likely) hasn't smelled before. They aren't dupes, they just aren't playing risky with what they're making. Frankly, I think that is good business. You want the customer to not feel like they made a mistake in buying from you, and you want to make it easy for them to sort out why they like what it is they're buying. By far these guys do the best job at that. Margiela tells you the season, but it doesn't tell you why you might like what's in it or what ingredients you're smelling if you do/don't.

I would feel comfortable with recommending this kit as a result.

Opening is very hashish and oud, some green in the background, after 30 min it mellows down and the smokey quality comes out, heavy oriental incense, very resinous, like a tree sap from a newly cut tree. Reminiscent of Oud Wood.

I'm wearing oud rosewood in summer.

/frag/ newbie here, just started taking an interest in getting some better cologne. My wife loves buying me scented stuff from Bath & Body works, she likes it when I use the Mahogany Teakwood but I prefer the Bourbon scent. Neither seem outright terrible but I want to step it up.
I started with the Bourbon scent and tried to look into what might be similar but better. This led me to D&G The One, which I like a lot, but it seems to die pretty fast. I looked at the flow chart >>18743637 to get an idea of what else I might try but the recommendations coming off of The One aren't very specific.
What should I try next? I suppose I should try the "designer" path first since they'd be more affordable? Also, where should I start to try and find an upgrade to the Mahogany Teakwood scent?

If you still want to branch out, you can check out amber-focused scents if what you like about The One is the warm, comforting, resinous sweetness

I don't think there is anything out of the ordinary with Areej prices for their frags. It's still masstige tier. Where I immediately think "This person is brown" is when they suggest an attar, particularly multiple attars. That's not a Western "frag culture" item, if that makes sense. Sultan Pashta pretty much only made attars, and those same white guys you're thinking of would just kick rocks waiting for him to make a fragrance. He did, and then they started glazing it but you'll notice they wouldn't buy the attars. It's like how Russians order vodka, not beer, and Germans order beer, but not vodka.

Got the Stora Skuggan discovery set a few days ago.

Have already sampled them all and come to some conclusions. Might make a full writeup after I've tested them a bit more. Regardless:

>Hexensalbe and Pine
The two main reasons that I bought the discovery set. Hexensalbe ended up being my favourite of the 9. It's a darker take on Mal-Aime by PdE, smells fucken brilliant, chums. Dark green, herbal. Lasted a good while too.
Meanwhile Pine was a disappointment tbqh. It does smell very resinous, however, not fresh pine resin, rather, a perfume abstraction that carries that warmth you get from "amber" notes. It doesn't smell like pine forest, nor like when you snap the branch of a pine tree and smell the sap, which is what I wanted.

Surprisingly very good. Demonstrates well that note listings are more or less bullshit at the best of times. The "sunscreen lotion" note is a stretch. Reminds me of dried wildflowers and has a clean musky edge to it.

Also used my own tester strips and sprayed and flipped them so I wouldn't know the name of them. Then ordered by how much I liked them.

Good price, and I think Costco has a generous return policy even for perfume. If you want something on the sweet/spicy side for going out, I'd say try it.

I’m disappointed I’ve bought so much from them, but not surprised. They were hard to deal with when my bottle arrived broken. They use the name LAPerfect on eBay btw. They’re the cheapest discounter I know. Fu k.

Tried using jomashit once when they lured me in with the whole try our brand new Australia site out, prices in AUD, etc, etc. I get to the checkout and it's like 50 bucks shipping, which I could potentially (unlikely) have lived with. But, suddenly, you also get slapped with the duties, taxes and goy surchages at the checkout screen which made it over a hundred bucks more expensive. At that point I went haha fuck you, and vowed never to visit that hole again.

Their prices are on par with FragrenceNet, but they charge $5.99 shipping additional unless you buy a certain amount. Sometimes if you’re only looking to buy ONE cheap bottle from a brand like Lattafa, their price is the best via eBay. That’s who I used to buy from. My recent experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I haven’t bought from them since. They offered a partial refund for a completely decimated glass bottle that stunk up my house for 3 days when I opened it. My poor husband was gagging. They just throw that shit loosely in a box. Joma has one edge over Fragrancenet, and that is really niche brands will offload stock onto them. Fragrancenet is great, but Joma just happens to get frags that FN will never carry. I am not sure what to do with this IDF information. If there was another discounter who could get the same inventory at a similar price, I'd just cut Joma out entirely. Their bullshit "ships in X number of weeks" was already a ding against them, I just don't feel like I can justify buying frags for $300-400 when they might occasionally pop up there for $150 or less. That's a very hard thing to let go.

Probably if you live in the US, yeah. Majority of what i searched for is only marginally better than even proper stockists in Australia with RRP.

Always found fragrancenet lightyears cheaper if you're in aus (or comically ridiculously more expensive depending on brand, like Amouage, etc)

Yeah, that same frag is more expensive on American Fragrancenet than just buying it directly from MDCI ...and doesn't come with all the extras from buying from direct. I have bought from FN many times. I don't have any complaints about them, especially since a delivery guy once stole several frags out of the box of stuff I ordered and Fragrancenet just replaced them for free.
