I wanted a rose fragrance. I gave it some thought. Gave in to the shilling of toy boy on here.
First impressions.
It’s nice, lots of pink pepper in the opening. It is because of this fragrance that I can now identify pink pepper. I also get some fruit, easy to identify as pear.
In the dry down it’s predominantly rose. I also get a background scent of vetiver and wood.
It definitely smells masculine, it doesn’t give off homosexual vibes despite the marketing. If you wanna argue that it’s still gay then at the very least you know it’s the scent profile of a top.
I get the image of a normal dude in a dress suit wearing a normal men’s cologne but he’s got a rose boutonnière.
Bought a 50ml at TJmaxx for $50 because I wanted the instant gratification. Definitely should’ve bought it online for the same price but twice the juice.

Probably going to buy a bigger bottle when I finish this 50ml

Weather: 95F (35C).
Humidity: 76-80%.

I ran a test to see how well it stood up on my skin versus my clothes in this weather. Now, you might think "That's retarded, the outcome is obvious." Sort of. Some frags can stand up to that weather in short bursts. If they couldn't, what the fuck are the Arabs even doing? Anyway. De Profundis does not hold up to this weather (on my skin) at all. A short 30 minute walk had it almost completely perspired from my skin between the sweat and the heat on me (from me). It did much better on my clothes, and managed to stick around for most of the day (6~ hours), projection dropped off after the first few hours but I could still get a whiff of it every now and then. It is wholly unsuited to this weather, not just because of the fact it just disappears on your skin but also it doesn't match. That second part isn't surprising at all, but I still wanted to see. The graveyard/funeral scent of the frag means that wearing this during the day outside of specific circumstances just feels off. It works significantly better (IMO) as a night time frag, or one you can wear during the day in the Fall if you live in a place that isn't hell on Earth.

It's the EDT and the aftershave, they smell very different. The aftershave starts very indolic then stays woody while the EDT is more floral and powdery. It's one of my favorites so when I found a bigger bottle of the aftershave I snatched it up. I wish I could find the soap again, it's unobtanium. When I did soap+aftershave+EDT I was in nirvana.

No idea, they seemed to discontinue all their best ones or reformulate them. From the current ones I shill for Purple Oud. It's not the most original but it does so many things right. Oud Rosewood gets a bit sweet for me but the woodiness is stellar. Oud Ispahan is great but it's not for everyone. Sometimes I love it, sometimes it feels underwhelming. Probably, it's a "western oud", more similar to Oud Wood. I never thought about TDH but I can vaguely see it, it's very different however. I've personally been looking for that for a long time.
I want a summer frag that is not just well-performing but also dense and not airy like most summer fragrances tend to be. My favorite profiles are leathers, ouds, resins, ambers, spices and stuff like that, so I like a scent bubble that is thick and enveloping.
I found that the often recommended well performing summer frags like Bergamask or Megamare are way too airy due to using huge amounts of aromachemicals like javanol or various amber woods, so that's not satisfying (also causes noseblindness which I hate and which doesn't happen as often with spicy/leathery/ambery profiles)
Montale has a lot of frags with oud + citruses or oud + marine notes which seems like it could be nice but I'm wary of the brand's reputation

On an unrelated note, I finally compared Iris Malikhan and L'Attesa side by side today.
Iris Malikhan opens greener and duster, then dries down somewhat buttery, somewhat earthy and still somewhat realistic, like a mix of orris root and iris flowers.
L'Attesa opens more aldehydic and somewhat buttery, then dries down sooo buttery, with some orris facets that remind of suede, lipstick and plastic; it's still not as lipsticky as Iris Pallida.
None of them are significantly powdery, and I preferred Iris Malikhan.

My initial impression is that the saline smell is similar to AdG EDT, without the citrus. It seems to keep that sort of scent rather linearly, but goes from a little generic ocean to a little more saline afterwards. It's still pretty smellable on me after around 4-5 hours later, only 1 spray on neck and each arm.
Overall you could do much worse and you'll get 150ml for the price of a 30ml AdG bottle that will last 1/3rd the time.

I went in with zero expectations but I’m a huge fan of this. Huge punch of passion fruit in the beginning but dries down into a sweet leather. The passion fruit stays for a long fucking time and there’s also a hint of raspberry that reminds me of pixie sticks. When I close my eyes I can almost feel the granular texture of the pixie sticks.

It's different enough. I'd have to go dig my sample of it up (not sure where I put it) and compare it next to my regular BI sample. I found BI to be underwhelming, but the Extrait smelled much nicer and closer (in terms of quality) to what I imagined BI smelled like given how often it's mentioned. I cringed at the price point, there's like a dozen other things I'd probably want to buy first but that's my personal opinion.

I bought Lattafa’s Asad. Smells like pulling oregano out of the spice cabinet. If this is anything close to Sauvage Elixir, you are all tastelets.

Demachy with his long tenure and success, was proven to make money for Dior, and thus they likely trusted him to make more varied creative decisions. That said, my favourite of all of FKs Dior releases so far is probably Cuir Saddle. Smooth and pretty dry, powdery leather. Absolute 10/10. Yeah, it's kind of feminine leaning, but it just smells incredible. Accurate to how the flowers smell irl.

>Tubereuse Absolue
Another really accurate and true floral depiction. Smells bright and fresh, and decidedly more feminine than the last two. Probably wouldn't wear it myself, but it'd smell 10/10 on a woman.

The opening is straight up pure freshly cracked vanilla bean. Not gourmandy, just really natural and smooth. It quickly develops an almost smoky sandalwood type character.

>Vetiver Java
A lot more pungent vetiver, with an almost acrid oiliness. The geranium here is present and does something to make it smell a bit chemical, instead of naturalistic or herbal. Usually enjoy varied vetiver interpretations, but this was a relative miss. Not bad, but a solid 6.5/10.

>Absolue D'Osmanthe
Resinous, fruity and ambery osmanthus. Really nice, and would smell great on a woman, but not my style.

Sleeper banger. Actually very good, even though it's lower down. I'd probably move it up past vanille, as I keep coming back for more smells. It's subtly woody and dry. The cacao is very earthy here, I can appreciate the lack of sweetness. 8/10

I enjoyed Santal 33, and this is like that, but with a good dose of nail polish odor. Just completely ruins it. Very sharp on the nose.

Take the ones you like and separate them from the ones you didn't, but keep them together (I usually do this by flipping the vaporizer up side down in the kit). Then leave them alone for a few weeks and go back to them to see if you still feel that way about the pile you liked, then do the same for the pile you didn't like. Ayy, the ones I've seen at that price are the usual suspects, long neck 50mls, often testers or unboxed. But it varies. I've seen L'Orpheline testers at $85 AUD. $100 for Santal Majuscule, Ambre Sultan, Fille de Berlin, Nuit de Cellophane, etc.

Any of the tall white bottles usually are cheapest at around $140 AUD. The tall black bottles depend on the frag, saw De Profundis like a month ago at $450 AUD.

Also yeah, I've got Neroli Mediterraneo in my list now, so I'll keep an eye open.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. It starts off HEAVY with cardamom but then is pretty powdery for the rest of the time. When I first tried it smelled like body odor.

Now some time has passed, and now it smells like a freshly cut log. I think they wanted to do something a little spicy and then soft. Notes are turpentine-ny and resinous, like a pinecone and pine sap. I don't know what to think of it. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong?
