/balding/ and /finasteride/ general - hair is love, hair is life!Sticky: http://tuxbell.com/index.php/BaldingReminder that if you can clearly see down to your scalp when your hair is wet, your hair is thinning, lots of small new hairs sprouting at the hairline or crown is a sign of hair recession.Holy trinity:Tabs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinasterideLotion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MinoxidilShampoo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KetoconazoleFinasteride/Dutasteride are 5-alpha reductase inhibitors that prevent free T from being converted to DHT, a byproduct of testosterone that serves no purpose after puberty but to choke out your hair follicles and make them thin out and die in a few short years, a condition known as androgenic alopecia.5ar inhibitors prevent your hair from getting any worse, mild regrowth is expected, rapid onset diffuse thinners see a significant recovery on fin alone. Can be taken orally or topically.5ARIs are not dosage dependent, taking as little as as 0.2mg daily fin can reduce serum DHT by 68%, while 5mg reduces by 72%.0.5mg daily dut reduces serum DHT by 95%, but is considered a second line treatment, and can be more expensive and harder to get prescribed. Start with fin.Fin has been used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) for 30+ years, it's very well studied and is tolerated well in almost all men, however, there's a 1-2% risk of erectile issues in controlled studies. These can be avoided by reducing dosage, spacing out dosage, or stopping the drug. Fin takes days to fully bio-accumulate, the half life of fin is about 8 hours, adverse effects occuring within minutes of starting fin or persisting long after stopping fin are not real and have no basis in reality. Please note that dut has a much higher half-life of 5 weeks, if you're prone to fin sides, dut may cause them for far longer.Refer to https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3481923/ before responding to PFS trolls.
Minoxidil (liquid and tabs) is a vasodialator that opens potassium channels and widens blood vessels bringing nutrients to your hair follicles, stimulating them into thickening, accelerating growth and elongating the growth phase. Min is taken with fin to restore your hair to it's original hairline, thickness and vigor when hair loss is caught early enough, (pre-NW2). Can be taken orally or topically.Topical min does not work in 1/3 of men because they lack the required enzymes in their scalp, all men have this enzyme in their liver so the oral route is a good fallback. The FDA formulation for 5% liquid minoxidil is food safe (vape juice, ethanol and water) and can be safely taken orally if oral min tabs are expensive or rarely prescribed where you live. As a general rule, ~4 drops (0.1ml) = 5mg minoxidil. There's a 1-2% risk of fluid retention with higher oral dosages, start with the lowest dosage possible and work your way up when you're sure it's well tolerated.Ketoconazole is an anti-androgen and antifungal that inhibits DHT on the scalp and used to treat fungal infections of the scalp that may be making your hair loss worse such as seborrheic dermatitis, a condition where you exhibit severe greasy, flaky large dandruff flakes with dried yellow crystals (blood plasma) embedded in the scalp. Some people may only have traction alopecia (hair loss from scratching or friction), but it will not cure androgenic alopecia on it's own. Can only be taken topically.Do not use spirolactone. Spirolactone is a diuretic which, in large doses, inhibits testosterone and, by extension, DHT.It is regularly prescribed as an anti-androgen for male to female HRT, and thus, comes with an astronomically higher risk of sexual side effects in men including ED, gynecomastia, and can cause potassium toxicity.Previous thread>>18735049
Day 94 fin micro needlingOnly get an erection a couple times a week. Sex drive completely gone. Mostly the same lifestyle as before except I've cut out alcohol and reduced junk/fast food. My gains are good, but I'm worried about these sides. Im considering downloading grindr to see if these meds are making me asexual or if I'm just gay and never realized it. Anyone else experienced this?
>>18752058Yes but not because of DHT blockers. Alcoholism ruined my sex drive, death grip didn’t help either but I still get hard when I kiss a girl so I’m good I guess. The sexual side effects from DHT blockers usually cling off after some time from what I’ve read.
I cut my hair to a number 3 length. I have Norwood 1.25-1.5 hairline and I can't cope with it. I have a naturally widows peak, and when I grow my hair out, and slick it back I look like dracula :D I've learned that juvenile hairline is life. Maybe I'll grow my hair out when I'm 25-26, but as a 22-year-old, I want to stay young. And yes, strangely enough, I look younger with a number 3 haircut.>Why not hop into fin/min?That's why >>18752058
>>18752120>That's whyNever happened
>>18752127>Never happenedI wasn't joking my sex drive is pretty much dead and I don't really mind it after years and years of gooning. I was half joking about grindr.
>>18752058I'm maybe 10 days behind you and haven't noticed any changes like that. Also taking oral min so I have to shave my unibrow twice a week now kek
>>18752058I unironically was hoping fin would kill my sex drive, I fap too much. It honestly mightve made it worse
>>18752020I wish that everyone reading this comment have a full thick head of healthy looking hair.
>>18752020started min and dutasteride (both oral). hairline is slightly fucked but not therrible. the main issue is my thinning crown of the size of my hand. 2 months, too soon to see changes I believe, but if this does not work ill prob stop the treatment and buzz. did not notice any side effects yet. any tips?
Been wondering if for balding men have they ever consumed MSM and saw any results
>>18752216Patience and consistency. Good news is thinning areas respond especially well to treatment and regrowth is basically guaranteedHairline however takes a lot of luck to dramatically lower once you've receded. You've maximized your chances for a full recovery.
>5 months of topical min and a year of fin>temples look like this (under flash)Can these hairs get any thicker or longer? I’ll look like a sasquatch with hairs growing out of my forehead if they do, but I’d rather that than my old NW2.
>>18752256Norwood negative 1
>>18752257I wish. You can only see the center hairs with flash. And my eyebrows are growing higher up on my forehead from the topical min spreading lol.
pic rel is how it looks like for me now.Norwood 3 vertex, I guess.I don't want to bother with medication or transplants.is it time to shave already or can I still let it stand like this for a while?
>>18752340Have you done a trial run of how you look bald yet? Personally I find it crazy how people can decide on something so permanent without even testing it before. Imagine if you look like complete shit and realize you should have saved it instead... that could be you forever. Anyway you still have enough density, doesn't look obviously bad from a glance but the clock is ticking.
>>18752347I had a 5mm buzzcut before and it looked fine imoI simply don't want to take prescription medication permanently for something that is not health related
Took fin for 2 or 3 years, didn't do anything. Been taking topical min for over 10 years, don't know if it works because I've been on it so long. Still balding but not completely bald. But my libido is lower than it was before I started, which is a bummer.
>>18752350Live long enough and you’ll get BPH anyway m8.
>>18752370what's BPH?
when does minoxidil shedding usually start and stop?
I'm convinced that duta is a meme. You start taking but you don't see any results, and they tell you that you need to wait the same exact amount of time as you've already waited>I'm on dut for 3 months when do I see gains?>That's a shedding phase you'll see gains on 6 month>I'm on month 6 no result. What do? >The results of the dut are viewed in a year>I'm 1 year on dut. Went from NW2 to NW5. Gains?>Yeah just wait another year bro just one more year>2 years. I'm bald>Bro just wait bro on year 4 you'll get all your hair back
Had to take a 3 week break from Fin and my hair legitimately feels so thin and my corners pushed back noticeably. I’m fucking freaking out, will it come back? I was 5 weeks into Fin.
>>18752256Dark haired men cannot suffer wtf
>>18752256You greedy fuck, get on 5mg of dut why don't you.
>>18752390For most people, fin and dut will lead to very little regrowth and mostly on the crown area, not temples. Usually the people who experience regrowth with DHT blockers caught their balding very early on. Their actual purpose is stopping your alopecia from progressing. Do minoxidil if you want regrowth.
>>18752436Kek, you likely had just gotten started on your first shed. Yes it should be recoverable but don't do this again, your hair follicles only have so many hair cycles to go through before senescence alopecia kicks in.
>>18752390If your hair is progressively getting worse after a year on dut you don't have MPB.>>18752381Depends but on average week 1 to a month for the initial shed. It shouldn't last more than a week, it's just your hair will take a while to fill back in, especially if you're working with more than a buzz cut.>>18752363Some people are extra sensitive to DHT and finasteride can only slow down progression, switch to dutasteride if you are concerned. If you haven't been taking the fin daily or are messing with low doses that could also be responsible regardless of what others will tell you.>>187524365 weeks is too early to have results from finasteride. Your hair is worse because you stopped taking it during the initial shed. 3 weeks is also not enough time to lose gains, the natural hair cycle allows you around 3 months of clearance though I wouldn't push it either way. Expect initial results in 6 months minimum.>>18752350How is it not health related? It is by definition a health issue which leaves your scalp physically disfigured.
>>18752350A buzzcut isn't the same thing. You will lose the "shadow" effect which frames your face.Left is the true final form of balding, not right.
>>18752496>switch to dutasteride if you are concernedNah I think I'm over it. Not worth it tanking my libido just to keep some hair when it's already half gone.
>>18752492>>18752496I have identical photos taken1. 3 weeks into Fin2. Yesterday, 3 weeks off of FinThe first photo is much thicker and healthier looking. As soon as I stopped taking Fin, hair started to fall out again. (It stopped falling out 3 weeks into Fin)Don’t sugar coat just give to me straight. The corners are fucking with me.
>>18752720The fin shed is common, happens with min too. It gets worse before it gets better.
>>18752731No i’ll give you the timeline to make it clearer. Before Fin: SheddingMonth into Fin: No shedding, hair looked healthy3 Weeks after pausing Fin: Shedding, hair is thin, corners recedingWhat’s the diagnosis?
>>18752780Fin shed. Its biologically impossible for your hair to improve in 1 month due to the length of the hair cycle. Once the drug has sufficiently built up in your cellular tissue (~1 month of daily dosing) it will be able to continue inhibiting DHT for a few months before depleting and your DHT levels return to baseline, this is when you would return to pre-fin hair, not worse off like you claim. The thing is that since the medication had sufficiently built up in your system it continued to work the entire time, not as effectively but still. Because it was still working, albeit to a lesser degree it was enough to suppress enough DHT to signal to your damaged hair follicles to re synchronize itself with the other healthy hair cycle. For a lot of people this is accomplished by an initial shedding of that hair, giving the impression of a rapid loss and worsening hair than baseline. The hair that was lost will grow back thicker in diameter than the previous cycle, in which DHT was inhibiting the size. Its not uncommon to have multiple sheds during the first year or so. This is what happened.
How far along am I? Is it salvagable?
I stopped worrying about balding last year when I went to college at 25. I look like an unc anyway. Why bother? Just gain some muscle and embrace the dad mode. I even started dressing like an middle-aged man, and now people mistake me for a professor all the time. The only matter left is finding an unfortunate mindbroken young woman who is wholeheartedly into this thing. Otherwise balding is fine.
>>18752932Why do you want to be mistaken for an old man at 25 lol. Next level cope
>>18752921Norwood 2 range. Yes
>>18752020Is this normal? I've been growing my hair out and recently my scalp itches so much it keeps me up at night, especially after washing my hair. My hair also falls out by the dozens. I'm thinking about just cutting it short and trying out whatever zinc or iron or vitamin D supplements with rosemary oil or whatever. Or is it better to just hop on 1mg fin as per the meme?
>>18752937There is something known as the "DHT itch" which happens to some people who start balding. I've never experienced it so I don't know if it's meant to be as severe as in your case.It sounds more like maybe some kind of dermatitis or fungal infection though the lack of red discoloration/dandruff looks more like diffuse thinning hair loss.I would try a ketoconazole shampoo and switch out whatever shampoo you use regularly with one made for use on babies for a month. If it doesn't improve see a dermatologist and get diagnosed.
>>18752796Look i’m not saying you’re lying but you have to hear me out. When I was on Fin my hair felt full, the itchiness when away, etc.But now I am have constant itchiness on the scalp and corners specifically, i’m waking up with rock hard erections again (I had softer morning wood on Fin), and hair is falling out (it stopped a month into Fin). My head is now itchy all day (only the top where it recedes, 0 itchiness on the sides or back. What is happening?
>>18753105I guess you're right and your hair is just gonna fall out. Get ready to shave it off.
>>18753123I’m just trying to understand what happened. 3 weeks of such regression fucking sucks man.
>>18753123>>18753138Also the roughness of my hair I got while on Fin (really enjoyed it actually) disappeared too, it’s completely soft now. I just hope I haven’t done significant damage in 3 weeks.
>>18753156It really seems like you do want to have done damage regardless of what anyone tells you
>>18753181Man, when you live so long stressing about your hair, it really gets to you. The hours i’ve spent depressed about my hair is enough to end a man. So things like hairline itches and feeling thin hair, triggers me hard man.
>>18753258You shouldn't even be looking at your hair until at minimum 6 months on fin. If I had to do it all again I would have buzzed it off for the first year and let it grown in after
been on fin for 4 years. minor regrowth however I am not satisfied, there is a thinning spot on my crown which shows I am balding that I want to fill in.My plan is to either go to oral minox 2.5mg or dutasteride in november, take a month off work for the dread shed to happen, then proceed with life. Is this a good idea? Should I do oral minox or dut for crown regrowth? I hesitate with minox because of heart risks and a less forgiving dependency on the drug.
>>18753471If your hair loss has stabilized on finasteride then you should add oral min. Switch to dut if its still progressing
if you were to take fin but stop taking it during the fin shed, will that hair grow back? or have you just accelerated hair loss
>>18753523You will shed again when your DHT levels return to normal after quitting. That combined with the initial shed phase will be like 6 months of your hair being fucked. The quitting shed will accelerate your hair loss 1 full hair cycle which could be really bad if you're balding was aggressive.
>>18753527that sounds BRUTAL, so when your dht levels return to normal and shed again, will restarting fin fix this mess? or is stopping fin during the fin shed a death sentence
>>18753529Assuming a timeline where you took it long enough to induce the initial shed (The good one) and then quit some time during that phase long enough to completely allow your DHT levels to return to baseline (2-3 months max) and induce a second shed (The bad one) then you would effectively be starting new and "fixing" it would entirely depend on if your balding was aggressive enough to cause any perceptible damage to your baseline hair. Technically you would be starting at a worse off position than before in that case and it will always be ever so slightly worse. Unless it was super aggressive prior to fin I doubt you would even notice once regrowth kicks in.
>>18753489are you on oral min? the issue i am having is there is thin hair covering my scalp, i would imagine a hair transplant doctor would tell me to kick rocks. would oral min thicken up all the thin hair I have or is it just to stimulate growth in dormant follicles?
>>18753534You can transplant a thin scalp and results are usually very good because there is a lack of technical aspect to it like rebuilding a natural looking hairline. Yes I'm on oral min. There is a very high likelihood that it would thicken existing hair, working particularly well in that regard actually so long as your hair loss has stabilized with fin. Start on 1.25 mg and up to 2.5mg after a couple weeks and stay on 2.5mg for at least 6 months. Evaluate your hair after that and go up to 3.75 or 5mg if you are not satisfied.
Anyone here experienced hairfall related to statin? I've been taking rosuvastatin of the lowest dose daily for last two months and couple of weeks ago my hairfall has gone bonkers. its not just falling from one spot, even on the sides and on the back where generally hair doesn't go bald. im kind of confident its not malde pattern baldness but TE. I'm going insane. i had to start statin because my LDL is genetic and now im losing hair. How do i deal with this? btw my mom take Avrostatin and she too has started having crazy hairfall ( yes i get my genetic high LDL from her )anyone here got any idea? or its not gonna stop till i stop the statin ( which means i risk the chances of heart attack and stroke )? I was taking min 5% + fin 0.1% lipid solutions for my temples and wasn't really having hairfall this bad even during my shedding phase
Considering hopping back on fin. Was on it for a couple years but stopped due to a mental health crisis. I’m like 90% sure the side effects I experienced (low libido, dead dick) were due to antidepressants and alcoholism. I def had the watery semen though. I’m kinda torn because I’m at the last few months where taking fin would still be worth it. I’m leaning towards no because my face is pretty good looking, I could pull off the buzzed head/short beard look. Am I being a hypochondriac or is fin actually poison?
>>18753837Might as well try one last time then proceed with your plan if it doesn't work out since there is no going back once your hair goes past the point
>>18753866Can’t get a derm appointment for a couple months. Is Keeps/Hims legit?
>>18753921Yeah but Dr B is a lot cheaper. Amazon pharmacy gets an honorable mention too
been on fin and recently hopped on dut for close to 6 years now. i want to get on min but i have a cat that i don't want to die because of some bullshit. what do? oral min is kind of hard to find.
You people that say you are taking oral min, are you just drinking topical min?
>>18753964I put like 9 drops in a glass and add water a few times to make sure I get all of it.>>18753951just oral the 5% topical liquid, no chance your cat will lick your head
>just passed the 2 month mark after my HTfucking GROW already AAAHHHHHH
>>18753964Yeah you can perfectly safe as long as you measure properly
>>18753398Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe I was seeing things but my hair genuinely felt thicker and looked thicker after 4 weeks of Fin. Before I started, my hair was a brittle mess. Everything was thin and itchy. But after 3 weeks of not being on it, it returned to the brittle, itchy, thin mess. Also I have photos. Not going to post my actual head, but 4 weeks of Fin my hair resembled more of a U shape. The corners receded. But 3 weeks of pausing Fin turned my hair into a god damn V shape. The corners aren’t just receded, they’ve become the majority of my head! Anyway i’m back on it now. I’ve stressed enough. I hope I can look back on this in a few months and laugh that was I stressing for nothing. Can’t even leave the house without a hat on at the moment. :(
What Ive still got is shoulder length, but its obviously thin on top, does that prevent me from using topical stuff? Not willing to buzz it all down just to pray the stuff works. Ive never bought cosmetic oral drugs online, do I need a doctor for this stuff? Am I over thinking this and can I just get whatever the top result on amazon is?
anyone else notice a lot more women balding these days compared to the past?
>>18754052maybe but maybe because they rarely have bangs anymore
>>18754052no. it's about the same. they just always hid their temples with longer hair covering the side burn completely. ponytails are more common i gues.s
>>18754052women won't get generationally humiliated for wearing wigs
>>18754049You need a perscription for finasteride topical or oral. You don't need one for topical minoxidil in most countries, oral you do. You can get prescribed in 24 hours using a telehealth service, just Google for one that serves your country. You can still use topicals with long hair though it will be unnecessarily annoying to apply with longer hair when oral exists. Anything claiming to treat hair loss which does not contain finasteride or dutasteride is a scam. Minoxidil works but is more of a supplementation with the above 2 and will not treat your hair loss long term.
I'm 31, Norwood stage 2. Not that bothered with it but I do not want it to progress further either, and so would minoxidil be useful for that? (I can add nizoral too probably). Fin and duta are prescription only so I'll skip it
>>18754161no, it's fin/duta or bustenjoy your further hair loss
>>18754161no. minox will only get you density but the follicle itself is still dying. getting fin is extreemly easy because of how harmless it is just give a couple of shekels to the online doctor. they dont' give a fuck.
The wife’s boyfriend recommended i try this on my hairline. So i let him rub it onto me and my hairline has never looked better. But the issue is i got smeg in my eye.
>>18754161No. The preventative stage is literally the ideal scenario for fin. There are no shortcuts, take it now or regret it forever when you're working with a NW4 and desperate.
I would take a nw2 with a thick head of hair over a nw1 with thin, weak, diffused hair any day of the week desu
I regrew my hair from nw5 to nw2 while on steroids with this stack. I refuse to believe you can’t achieve full growth as a natural with it>dutasteride daily>oral min daily>multi w/biotin + k2/d3 daily>RU58841 daily>oral castor oil before bed daily >keto shampoo + light micro needle/massage/let sit 20 min 3x week>extra: if using AAS, let e2 run a *little* hot. E2 is lifeblood to hairI’m on pace to have my high school hair at 33 WHILE ON 750 TEST AND 500 EQ
>>18754379How long were you balding for to reach nw5? Was it a rapid onset from roids?
how cooked am I? Diffuse thinning caused by chronic seb derm and androgenic, so both have been fucking in the ass for a lot. This is photo 1
>>18754481this is photo 2...there is a third set thats easily the worst ever....but ok, window so natural light, pics of the top of my head have to be the most honest, middle part too, right? if so set 3 is the truth
>>18754481>>18754483Looks bad, have you had blood work done?
>>18754550Nope, I havent, any idea on what to look for? That said, seb derm + normal thinning was the cause last time I was at the doctor.Looks bad huh? How bad? Not reversible right? Like hairline is intact from the front if long or ponytail but..well theres part 3What photo would like, what setup would really show the damage?
>>18754551>What to look for Vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems, telogen effluvium, etc. >How bad Bad enough that your thinning is apparent to an outside observer >Not reversible Yes it is, if your blood tests come back normal than you can try finasteride and minoxidil, but first you have to be sure your hair loss is DHT related.>Hairline is intact Yeah which sometimes can be thyroid/vitamin/hormone related, though some hair loss presents itself without hairline recession. >What setup Nothing, I can clearly see that you're losing hair, take care of it asap before it gets any worse.
>>18754555It happened super fast I'd say. I had some thinning before that i was sorta managing but not successfully due to the seb derm also complicating things and random flare ups on skin, scalp, etc. But it has worsened a lot, I'd say this entire year this has been a common sight, but even more nowI'll do all of that and if not look into hair systems
>>18754558>It happened super fast That typically happens with Telogen effluvium, usually stress or autoimmune related hair loss. Though that still doesn't rule out male patterned baldness which is why you should get your bloodowor done just to be on the safe side. >Skin issues Have you gone to a derm? Also, I have hypothyroidism and have dealt with the same scalp problems, not saying you have it, but maybe look through the symptoms for thyroid problems and see if they apply to you.
>>187544081 year, from using fin alone on 500+ test and crashing e2 too much
>>18754562I had hypothyroidism a long time ago, is it even a thing that goes away? Remember taking meds for it. Maybe it's that again, last time I checked like 3 years ago everything was normal. To be fair the thinning has been going on in stages for I'd say 4 years now, manage it, lose it, manage it, lose it. Slowly, like plateauing for a while then worsening, this is my 2nd fast shed period, last one was at the start of this. Thanks again.
>>18754566>>18754562I also have poor poor sleep most of the time for all these years, seem like I've been running a multiple angle speedrun to being bald, on the sides, thick and healthy as ever but on top, shameful.
>>18754563The key was the rapid onset as I suspected then. Your same treatment plan wouldn't reverse more than a single norwood for 99% of people who got there over years despite how intensive it seems. This is why you need to act immediately or better yet proactively.
>>18754590I thought about that but biochemically, if you nuke 100% of scalp DHT, how do people not regrow with minoxidil?
>>18754628Poor enzyme activity in the scalp/follicles physically scarred over as the final phase of miniaturization. Apparently pp405 showed promise in reviving those dead follicles but its really just speculation until it goes to market
Any Spain bro here? I found this website that sells fin, is it legit? https://farmaciadehesa.com/producto/finasterida/
I'm broke as fuck. I'm starting using minoxidil but I want to waste as little as possible. I keep long hair and how do I get as much as possible on my scalp and as little as possible on my strands? I know it's not a big deal but I really don't want to waste anything, not the drug, not the hair
>>18754676oral min actually works better on people with poor enzymatic scalp activity compared to topical min
>>18754822I can't find oral min anywhere
>>18754823Take topical orally
>>18754797part, use a dropper and fist it in.
>>18754822Yeah but you're losing localization to the scalp. There really isn't a way to max out oral min to the scalp and experience better results than in a hypothetical where you had the perfect enzyme activity for topical without getting into doses which risk unwanted effects. With optimal sulfate activity on the scalp topical is superior it's just so rarely that people posses those genetics so oral ends up more effective.
hey bros, is anyone getting slight zing feelings in the nipples? I noticed every couple of days my nips feel a stinging or itchy feeling then subsides. Been taking 1mg fin every day now, does it go away?

How to know if hairloss is caused by DHT or thyroid conditions? The ends of my eyebrows have been thinning and i've been told that could be a thyroid condition. also my head is unusually dry and has bumps or pimples on it that can cause flaking, can that also contribute to hairloss? what are the recommended remedies
>>18755458You go to a dermatologist
>>18755459i did and they prescribed me fin and some prescription shampoo that supposedly helps with dryness, but if it's a thyroid condition i don't think these will help
>>18755458stop coping. it's not your thyroid, youre just balding.
>>18755458It can be both
>>18755540it's rarely ever both, look up symptoms of thyroid conditions, they go way beyond hair loss
Went to a hair transplant surgeon, got diagnosed with dupa, feeling pretty shitty about myselfDoc said my donor isn't suitable for transplant, it's miniaturizingI'm only 21, I was on dut and min for over a year, had to take a break in February due to a surgery, and got back on the meds in JulySurgeon said my only hope was that the meds would continue to improve my hair, he offered prp as well, hoping if I can regain some caliber and prove long term stability he might be able to do a conservative transplant, but that I have a severe case and he can't promise anythingReally does feel like I've been screwed by the genetic lottery, all my siblings have hair, even my dad kept his hair until his mid 30s.
>>18755932There's always a hair system as a last resort. I feel like there's less shame in it when you tried everything you could to keep your hair but still got fucked by genetics in the end.
>>18755932What's even the point of a transplant if you're losing it all over your scalp? If that's the case, then taking fin and min would just help regrow all the hairs, at that point there wouldn't even be any need for a transplant.
>>18755458For starters, thyroid hair loss looks very similar to DUPA, which is basically a form of hair loss where you lose it all over your scalp, as opposed to the classic hairline recession/crown thinning seen in classic symptoms of DHT related hair loss. Secondly, both thyroid hair loss and DHT hair loss can lead to scalp itching, but both itch for different reasons. Thyroid scalp itching is mostly caused by dry skin which is caused by the thyroid disorder, and it also comes with seborrheic dermatitis, both won't go away on their own without thyroid medication. DHT related itching is caused by your hair follicles miniaturizing. Overall, if you're also losing hair anywhere else on your body, it's usually a sign of a systemic hormonal issue, as DHT hair loss doesn't cause body hair loss, and in fact, DHT may actually increase the density of body hair. You're better off just getting your blood work done and saving yourself the hassle.
I'm just starting fin, everything says you can do both fin and oral min so I'd like to try that, but assuming it all works am I stuck using both forever or can I cut the min after Ive gotten what I want? Oral min is 3x as expensive, and I also dont want excess hair everywhere.
>>18756334i did fin first and felt like I saw the limits of it's effects after 8-10 months when the shed stopped so I started min and saw more regrowth in like 3 months than I did on 8 months of fin. Also take the topical stuff orally, you're not gonna become a gorilla, it might thicken body hair but only where it already exists.
>>18756342>Also take the topical stuff orallyhows that work? I guess you have to know what % of the stuff is water and work out the math for how much from the bottle to add to a glass of water?
>>18756355One singular drop of the 5% topical liquid 60ml bottle (assuming you have a standard 1ml dropper which comes with most retail versions of minoxidil) contains 1.25mg of min.You can calculate it quickly yourself if you have a different dropper by filling your dropper to the 1ml line and counting how many individual drops it takes to completely empty. Once you have your number of drops you can calculate the dose per drop by dividing 5 (the percent of your minoxidil) by the amount of drops your dropper contained before emptying. Let's say you are using 5% solution and your dropper contained 40 dropsso 5 / 40 = 0.125 or 1.25mgSay your dropper had only 30 drops5 / 30 = 0.166 or 1.66mgYou only need to calculate this one and then dose accordingly as long as you keep the same dropper.
>>18756362You can also calculate by dividing the amount of minoxidil contained in 1 ml, which for 5% solution would be 50mg.so 50 (mg of minoxidil) / 40 (drops) = 1.25mgDo whichever way is easier to remember if you ever get a new dropper and need to keep the calculation formula in mind.
anyone else shed hair when on adhd meds? my meds make me cold so i assume it also cuts blood circulation to my head? not sure how to fix this
adding minoxidil to my hair daily is a fucking pain and makes my hair oilybut oral min makes my face bloat like a balloonscience please fix this already it’s 2026
>>18756389maybe try lower dose of oral minoxidil
>>18756389The bloat is usually temporary as your kidneys adjust to the change in blood pressure
Is it possible that hair loss relating to ADHD medication (and other stimulants) is due to 'telogen effluvium'? Despite the lack of studies, it seems that many users (especially men) go through a shedding and thinning of the scalp when taking these medications, but they just accept it as a natural side effect.Another side effect of ADHD medication is it making hands and feet freezing cold. So could it also be restricting blood flow to the scalp just as it would during MPB? What could be a permanent fix here? (not the freezing hands and feet but more-so the lack of blood to the head caused by this medication).Would be interested to hear what you guys have to say.
>>18756445It wouldn't be limited to your scalp and even assuming it was, limited to the male pattern baldness progression scale. You probably already were suffering from the early stages of MPB and the constriction of blood vessels and therefore nutrients to the scalp has accelerated the underlying problem, being MPB. To be clear there is no condition or medication which can biologically trigger MPB. You were always susceptible to DHT hair loss.
>>18756207Before my consultation I had thought my donor was fine, when grown out my sides and donor look basically normal, even the top gets close to normalI was on 1mg dut and 5mg min from August last year to February this year, had to get off for a surgery and restarted them in JulyI was hoping I could move some density from the back and finally fix my midscalp since I didn't think it would need many grafts, but turns out I have fucking dupa which has been really discouraging

>>18752020I had to keep my hair back for work the last year or so and I thought initially my shitty hairline was just regular mpb but an older coworker mentioned the tension from pulling my hair in a bun was likely causing it to recede. He said the shininess of the skin around my hairline was the giveaway that it's from the tension and not just regular hairloss. Is he full of shit or can I actually reverse this just by not putting my hair in a bun anymore?
>>18757864the shininess? it's probably from the vellus hairs. but yeah don't bother with tigheting that shit it can cuase permanent hariloss or acceleration.
>>18757864It's not going to recede in a meaningful way in a year. If you're like a NW2+ it's probably just balding.

~72 days post transplant and I don't see any regrowth yetgetting worried lads...
>>18758064your hair hasn't regrown in 72 days? that's literally impossible
>>18752496If balding is disfigurement, then you might as well say the same about wrinkles, or any change that happens after your infancy.
>>18753532This is pure delusion, of course. Stopping fin at any point does not make your genetic baseline worse.
>>18758363Yes it does. Balding follows a hair cycle, albeit a shorter one than hair which is not being affected by DHT. At the end of this cycle the hair is shed and grows back in, when you're balding it grows back smaller in diameter each time until it becomes imperceptible and eventually stops growing altogether. When you stop finasteride you are subjecting your follicles to the levels of DHT which caused your balding in the first place. Doing so will initiate a shed which will force your hair forward one cycle. Now depending on the susceptibility your hair has to DHT this can be severe or a non issue. See rapid diffuse hair loss for an example of 1 hair cycle being catastrophic.
>>18758361Wrinkles are caused by external stimuli and lifestyle choices. Balding is caused purely by genetic factors, no different really to a genetic disease. Someone who lived a terrible life and didn't take care of their skin resulting in a ghoulish appearance at a young age 100% constitutes physical disfigurement as far as I'm concerned.
while this guy was cooked. what is it about r*ddit that makes bald/head shaving so cultish?
Daily reminder: You are balding because your skull shape. Flat smooth galea & flat forehead = NW1 forever. Dome/cone shaped galea & convex forehead = cooked.

Burning, stinging, aching, etc. Yet the medical community sees it as a normal part of growing up or some bullshit.
>>18752020
anyone get brain fog on fin?
>>18758928I've heard of it. If it persists you can swap to dut as it doesn't pass the blood brain barrier unlike fin.
>>18757531>>18757528It looks like my donor has cancer, like I'm dying from some illness but my blood work keeps coming back normalThis is 3-4 weeks grown out from slick bald shave so I could assess it,
>>18758935>>18758935>If it persists you can swap to dut as it doesn't pass the blood brain barrier unlike fin.thats not proven at all. theres no research on it.
>>18759023Based on molecular size it is almost certainly true. The barrier already blocks ~98% of small molecule drugs so you would be talking about fractions of decimals trying to quantify the amount of dutasteride passing, if any.
The point where the roundness of your forehead meets the flat top of your head (usually a small hollow area) is the line where your hair will eventually thin out in the temple area. DUPA is a separate topic though. If you got bulbous frontal bone, it is over for you.
>>18758985Have you even bothered getting your blood work done to see if you have any autoimmune conditions, or do are you just gonna keep bitching in every single thread?
>>18758985>>18760111Whoops, I didn't read your post initially, okay you got your blood work and it's normal. You might just have DUPA, which is a rare form of AGA. Either that, or you could have some other form of alopecia, try going to a dermatologist.
I'm NW4 and have taken 0.5mg dut and 5mg oral min for 2 years and have had zero regrowth. Should I just give up?
silicone scalp massager instead of fingers for applying min Y/N?
>>18760249Back when I used topical I found any kind of rubbing action would transfer too much of the product onto my hair. The best method I had found is a little spray bottle nozzle, part, spray, move and don't touch it after. The radius of the spray was enough to spread it without any need to mess with it after.
>>18760177Have you had further loss? How long were you a NW4 before starting?
i lack so much energy and urge to do anything recently. is it the fin? nothing excites me
I've had thick hair all my life. Suddenly it appears very wispy and thin and my scalp seems more visible on the parting. It doesn't really fall out much more than usual but strands are weaker. Hairline isn't really receding. I did just turn 28 so I know I'm in the DHT range. I've never been to a dermatologist, what should I ask them so I actually get an answer instead of just a prescription? Reading the thread it seems like I should do bloodwork too? I really just want my coarse hair back it was so nice, seems like minox is the way too go for that, am I misled?
>>18760551You are describing male pattern baldness, specifically diffuse pattern hair loss. Generally you would know by now if you had something else going on as the hair loss would be one of many other symptoms affecting your physical health. You need to first prioritize halting further loss which is where finasteride/dutasteride comes in. If you catch it early you can regrow a decent amount of hair on those alone. If you don't care about an additional life long commitment and just want to maximize regrowth then you can add minoxidil and skip straight to taking it orally for maximum efficacy.I don't think blood work is necessary if you consider yourself a relatively healthy person (no chronic illness, no heart issues, not absurdly overweight). You don't need to spend money on a derm and in some cases they will even dissuade you from treating it properly. Your best option is telehealth as soon as possible, diffuse thinning can ravage your hair in months.
I had been taking duta for 90 days but didn't realize it and so subsequently didn't realize I ran out of stock so now there's a gap period between waiting for the indian pharm (which can take a couple weeks) to deliver the new stock. I know duta has a 4-5 week half life so does that mean I should be okay?
>>18760551Yeah go to a derm and get a fin prescription and save it while you can.
>>18760600Usually a max of 3 months since last dose for 5ar drugs
>>18760404Unlikely considering the sheer volume of mundane factors which can lead to those symptoms
some people claim to have taken dutasteride for over a year and get worse results than what they did on finasteride. do you think it's likely some people just do better on finasteride for some reason? what could cause that?
>>18752020when do you usually see first oral minoxidil results? i've been taking it for a month and starting to see baby hairs around temples like this but light >>18752256not sure if i'm imagining it, but i don't remember seeing them before min
>>18757693Not him, I moved to foam and it indeed dries fast, but it still stays in the hairs themselves making them sticky. I look so good after I shampoo my hair, and the min always ruins it. I wish once a day would be enough for topical so I could go out when my hair is peak and only apply it at night 30 minutes before sleep.
>>18761129I don't have a master's in minoxidil, but I'm pretty sure you can take a shower after it (or any other skincare product) has dried up. It's already in the intersticial liquid or wherever to the extent that it's ever going to be it's not going to bleed out, and the crust on your scalp isn't going to seep in.
>>18761098~2-3 months. Shed month 1, initial regrowth onwards.>>18761129Once a day is enough, twice is just a higher dose. It's not like it won't work or be efficient.
apologies for retard questions but should I get on minox asap or am I freaking myself out. people irl tell me that I'm paranoid and convinced me not to a while ago but I swear you can see straight through my head more than half the time. I tried topical before and fell off because I hated how it felt and keep bsing on getting an oral prescription, do most of you seriously just put like 5 drops of topical in water and take it like that? no complications?
>>18761315If you want to actually keep your hair long term, you need Finasteride or Dutasteride.
For almost a year now, I've noticed quite a few hairs in the shower. Like, I can pull a small clump of hair out of the drain when I'm done. I didn't pay much attention to it, but recently, when I run my hand over the back of my head, near the crown, it feels thinner, or at least I think it does. I took these photos after washing my hair, I know they aren't very good.Tell me straight up. Am I fucked? Should I start treatment? Is this normal for my age (26)?It's against my best interests to go bald.
>>18761315You can take topical orally as long as it is the liquid and NOT the foam. Make sure to read up on dosing and don't just take 5 drops, you need to be careful as it is very concentrated compared to pill form.
>>18761348Hard to say without a before from a year ago. Better to take fin as a preventative measure anyway. Maintaining is way easier than regrowing.
>>18761348these are wet? I look like gollum with wet hair
I finally went to see a derm ($360 for a 10 minute visit btw) and he's got me on 0.5mg of fin and 0.25mg of min and said to do a check up in 3 months. Be honest with me lads, just how real are the side effects of finasteride? Is my dick really going to stop working?
>>18761488i'd be more worried about those absolute shit-tier doses, dermas really are a scam
>>18761488About 1% incidence rate as per clinical trials and they usually do not persist beyond the first month or so if you do get them and they're genuinely not just nocebo.
>>18761488You'll be fine fag.
>>18761348That def appears to be the beginning of MPB. Best to start treatment now before you actually start to suffer. Really no downside to it.

>>18763976You are parroting "snake oil" without understanding the definition. Fin stabilizing your hair IS it working. Substantial regrowth isn't promised. If you delayed treatment until your hair was absolutely fucked and expected a miracle then you're retarded.>In clinical trials for hair loss (Propecia), about 1.3% to 2% of men taking finasteride experienced ED, compared to roughly 0.7% of men taking a placebo Applying the absolute worse case scenario using the data from the clinical trials the incidence rate is only 1.3% for ED when we subtract the placebo from the equation. We can make it a 0.6% incidence rate if we take the low estimation.>For the small percentage of participants who experienced sexual adverse effects during the controlled trials, symptoms typically resolved within days to a few weeks after discontinuing the drug, or in some cases, resolved even while the patient continued treatment.

But I’ve heard accounts like yours, that the hairs get “stuck” and never produce pre-AGA quality hairs where your hairline used to be. I wish there was an easy explanation for why results vary so much, even two people with the same Norwood level at the same age can get wildly differing results.
>>18764186All I'm giving is my own experience. I'm sure it works for some people but it didn't do anything noticeable for me. And my libido is down. You can say "it probably won't happen" all you want but there are plenty of examples of people who have had side effects. There's a whole subreddit full of sad sacks who want to kill themselves because fin had adverse effects on them. I've still been on min for 10 years but I don't know if it's doing anything because I don't have anything to compare it to. I've been taking it as long as I had a modicum of hair loss.
>>18764496Correlation =/= causation. PFS symptoms have no basis in regards to inhibition of DHT. Studies show that reducing DHT long term (decades) in males is perfectly safe.
