brought it on a trip after it was mentioned last thread. still great, still not feeling much after 2 hours. bottle is almost empty, I hope the newer batches last longer than this one.

The goal is to find that one scent you can always use. But it's hard. I feel like you need two minimum for different circumstances. Search continues.

Hey /frag/
Reporting back from the Dior House Sauvage Extrait launch event in Sydney that I'd been invited to.
They really went all out on it, rented a bar and transformed it into a Dior Sauvage themed experience. Got a haircut, hair styling and grooming. Then afterwards they take you upstairs for a one on one sitdown Sauvage sampling session, including the new Extrait. After which, finally you reach the bar area where they had complimentary canapes, deserts, drinks and Sauvage themed cocktails. Very atmospheric, low light. Gotta say, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really enjoyable, lads.

Sprayed on and properly sampled the Extrait and actually pretty impressed with it. After so many catastrophic misses with Kurkdjian at the helm, this one is legitimately a banger. Planning on copping a bottle soon.

Some quick thoughts:

>Very dry, woody, resinous, rich
>Nowhere near as much sweetness as the Elixir, which surprised me, as i was expecting some syrupy sloppa
>Doesn't aggressively project, but 8hrs later now, it's still evident within arms length
>Smooth non animalic oud, mixed with cedar and vetiver
>Citrus is there, but more like dry rind
>Honestly quite different from the main three Sauvage releases. Most similar to Elixir, but goes in a different direction with that dry oud and cedar.
>Distinct lack of spices is refreshing

Legitimately fucken good m8s. Really accessible oud scent for western audiences too. Perhaps if it sells really well, I can see other designers pushing an oud/masculine woody trend.

>>
>>18755586

It isn't stinky or particularly pungent as far as ouds go, but it's more present than other orientalist fragrances masquerading as oud.

Were you allowed to smell some of the raw ingredients?
>>
>>18755555
>Sometimes I don't understand why most fragrances never list down their notes on their boxes.
One of the reasons is that reformulations change notes too often. I can also speculate that consumers might become irate if they don't smell the listed note. Notes are really meaningless and just used for advertising. The less you focus on notes the better off you will be.
>>
Should I get any of the Drakkar Noir flankers?
>>
>>18755586
They turned the new Sausage into a niche slop with little wearability or mass appeal. I can't see it selling particularly well, maybe a bit better than the Eau Forte.

Bought 3 frags half a year ago, they sucked, but the seller didn't want to refund. After failing to sell it, then sitting in a box for months, I went out the yard and sprayed them out from top to bottom, then threw the glasses out. Too bad about the money, I'll say I gambled it away, which is close to the truth.

>>
>>18755981
Oud Malaki is the one that's fairly similar to Halfeti. BIM smells more like Halfeti Leather than the original. It also kind of resembles Gucci Guilty Absolute, but it's way stronger. I'd say BIM is a fun scent but it's not subtle in the least, everyone will smell you.

Why?
>>
>>18755979
I’m gonna miss my musk xylene PRPH when it runs out. The new stuff isn’t bad but man it just isn’t as good.
>>
>>18755988
>Why
Several reasons.
The skin specifically on the front of the neck is both thinner and has a lot more blood vessels, meaning absorption of topical products is much greater. There are also very little oil glands on the front of the neck, meaning perfumes will also maximally dry the skin there and contribute to aging it faster.
And thirdly, the lower part of the front neck is where the thyroid gland is.

Thus, the sides/back of the neck, if you must spray there, is much better for you. Even then, it's likely good to use a moisturiser if not already.

at that point i was already decided on selling the bottle because of the problem and i remembered that onlyfumes dude from youtube who said he fixed the pepper note in maison asrar thriller by leaving it on an orbital shaker for some time so i said fuck it, i might as well do the same and it fucking worked bro

>I thought common wisdom was not to shake your fragrances but it seems like there’s alleys exceptions to rules
it kinda makes sense from a chemical point of view because separation can occur and given how these middle eastern companies are not really using the best materials, it shouldn't be a surprise if it actually happens
i had the same problem with a very prominent sour note in maison alhambra's afro leather and it fixed it
it also fixed the projection/longevity problem i had with french avenue's liquid brun

>This is why IFRA exists
I could never understand why people who mention IFRA never actually know anything about it.
No, IFRA is not a government body. IFRA is made up of fragrance brands and manufacturers, their aim is to stop government regulation by preemptively self-regulating. They don't protect you from cancer or other diseases, they protect their pockets from costly government regulation.
>why perfumes are constantly getting reformulated
Again, not true either. Yes ingredients guidelines by IFRA cause reformulations but those guidelines only happen every few years and they usually affect few perfumes. Perfumes are constantly getting reformulated regardless of IFRA. Most perfumes are reformulated due to costs. You think if the price of sandalwood goes up the brand is going to be charitable and eat the cost? Of course not, are you fucking stupid?
>Most perfumes today have significantly reduced risk of cancer and neurological/reproductive harm than even 20 years ago.
Also not true. Cancer rates are higher now. Not to mention the countless skin conditions. The main concern of IFRA is money. If Ambrofix makes Givaudan a few pennies more than oakmoss they will find any reason to phase it out, like it causing allergy in a small percentage of people. Who knows or cares what effect new mystery molecules have on the body, as long as it's cheaper and the government doesn't know. They introduce new molecules with zero oversight.

TLDR: thanks to IFRA (brands and manufacturers) the fragrance industry has more money than ever and people are sicker than ever

I changed my mind, as a man wear any woman's fragrance you want. I was of the mindset that some women's perfumes work on men but some don't. I just noticed some of my favorite fragrances lean heavily feminine: Fleur de Liane, Une Fleur de Cassie, Dans Tes Bras, Portrait of a Lady, Cuir Cannage, and Oud Ispahan. It made me realize women's perfumes are a more honest and naturalistic scent while men's perfumes just try to go against that by overdosing ingredients and adding synthetic and rougher smells. Men's fragrances are basically a contradiction of perfumery. Even the fruity smells every man seems to be wearing this summer have a pungent oversaturation. The biggest problem with women's fragrances are their ghastly bottles, if you can get over that I say go for it. I apologize for holding you back before but you now have my blessings.

Reasom 1 is theyve done really well in paying for influencers, the money big creators get from rich gulf cosmeitc companies is easily 6 figures for 12 months of stealth promotion, they bot everything and are a big reason why Fragrantica reviews and 'This perfume reminds me of' sections are ruined. Reason 2 is Arab houses are less raped by IFRA regulations than brands that bound by EU law. UAE (Lattafa, French Avenue, many others), Australia (Bujairami), Indonesia (Mykonos/Velixir) all use the same unregulated manufacturing and slave laboured raw material acquisition, so the oils are abundant (hence 50% of their releases being 'extraits'), cheap to make, a lot of times have, and do not disclose, all the parabens and lilial and other IFRA banned compounds in it to make it last longer. Basically, they arent nerfed like your typical Made in France or Spain or whatever cheapie, They mostly all suffer from smelling flat and '2D' because theyre literally rip offs, but if youre spending $30, arab fragrances have a large range of rip offs to match your favourite scent, can last as long as the originals and 9 times out 10 perform better than a Western cheapie, which are all neutered versions of themselves like stuff from Davidoff, Perry Ellis, etc.

i have a few women's perfume in my collection like Pas Ce Soir and Kinstugi and i really like them. i think that most people, especially women, will like them. women's perfumes tend to lean more into sweet fruity or floral. some are too sweet for my taste, like too much of a gourmand, but for the most part even if frags are marketed as feminine they tend to be unisex most of the time.

Anonitas, what are some brands that do a light airy style like Diptyque?
>>

i think French-style perfumery tends to be light and airy generally speaking. i think L'Artisan Parfumeur could be a good pick. Acqua di Parma tends to lean on the lighter side for the most part, but it's rather different in style than Diptyque.
I find Byredo quite similar to Diptyque and Le Labo wouuld fit the bill as well.

I shook one bottle, strongly for a few seconds only, then like 20 more bottles. I had a weak moment and thought it'd do something good to them. Now a day later I spray and they all, every single one have a strong alcohol smell, and the stuff inside smells sour, straight after spraying. More complex ones and edps settle for 80% of the old smell, but edts are fucked.

It’s marketing. Unique bottles are more recognizable (and therefore memorable) than generic square bottles. It’s not like they’re the only ones to do it. Carolina Herrera with both good girl and bad boy, V&R Spicebomb, JPG, plenty of brands.

If you’re an average normie (which is who these brands all cater to) and you have a friend or coworker who you see put some on, you like it and decide you want some too, you may not know exactly what it is, but you can easily figure it out when you walk into Macy’s and ask for “The gold bar cologne” or “The robot cologne”.

Reddit, but you're going to be competing against guys with 2,000+ frags decanted and ready to be sold. Unless it's an in demand, vintage, and discontinued decant you are probably not moving it. The alternative is something brand new that hypebeasts push like Demon Dancer or Anelo.

What is the frag? You might be able to sell the decants to the guys I mentioned, but they typically work on a credit model from what I understand.

you're the guy who buys a bottle of versace blue jeans and then concludes that all designer fragrances are trash
my dude, you're so out of the middle eastern fragrance game that you should just stop talking about them, ok? we are at the point where these companies are doing collabs with big names like Bisch, Herault, Jordi and others lesser known perfumers for original releases and inspirations that are on par with designers at worst, and niche at best

>Rashid, you are a genius! I always tell people, I came out ahead in the bargain when I sold my five-year old sister to you for three goats. They all thought the price was too high.
>You are too kind, Abdul. So shall we more forward with production?
>No. Add an additional oud note, the cheapest, most artificial, off-putting note you have.

>>
>>18756278
Americans and Brits. Then the Koreans and Japanese. Then a mishmash of random countries like Romania for some reason.

Niche vs Designer has a working definition in one of the charts near the top, IIRC. I typically go by how large the company is, and what they sell. Are they in the business of selling shoes, handbags, suits, etc. and then they have a fragrance division? Designer. Or do they just sell fragrances in different mediums? (Solid fragrances, incense, etc.) Then I'd call that niche. And I'd absolutely call a small brand that only sells fragrances niche. I can see someone arguing the point that niche should be defined by what sort of fragrances are made, but I'd disagree with that because different for the sake of different doesn't mean good. Slivinschi's stuff is retarded, as an example.
>>

NTA, but Tobacco Touch by MA and Essence de Blanc by FA are pretty good approximations of Tobacco Vanille and Imagination. Especially since you can get either for like $15. Spray them a shitload into a drain and then stick them in a drawer for a month or so.
>>
>>18756301
>Why don't you suggest some "good" arab frags then?
lattafa musamam black intense, maahir honor and teriaq intense, maison asrar vanguard, thriller, faris al arab, muharib, french avenue cocoa morado and fierte luna to name a few and there are lots more
>why should I listen to anything you have to say?
lmao you think i give a fuck whether you listen to me or not? very funny
>the masses said it's good so it must be good because i'm a dumb animal consumer who can't do his own research
first off, do you even like the angel share DNA? on what metrics did you base your judgment on? schmucks like you go into "dupes" expecting them to be better than the original or the same, which in most of the cases they aren't but totally ignore the fact that they are smelling something that's 10x cheaper
mathematically and logically speaking, in order for it to not be a good deal, it would have to be at least 10.9% or lower so anything above it's a good deal
most of these cheap little shits are AT LEAST 80% close to their inspirations, some are even higher than that
even if you treat and expect them to be clones, 80% for 10x lower price is a great fucking deal
look man, it's pretty clear you are fucking clueless when it comes to appreciating perfumes of all kinds at their true value and the only way you curate them is by the price tag so stick to your mainstream shit
let me tell you something: never ask a woman her body count and never ask a designer brand how much is the real cost of their fragrances lol
i bet you also buy exclusively from physical stores lmao

>>
>>18756311
yep, maturation after the first spray is so important when dealing with these cheapies
take azzure aoud for example which needed like almost a year to become the gem that it is now
even some designer/niche fragrances benefit from this process so it's the dumbest thing to judge a fragrance by the first sprays after opening a fresh box
>>
>>18756326
>Sure you have access to it but it takes effort and skill to reconstruct it.
you know there are people in this world who can recreate an entire fragrance just from 1 sniff, right? without any gc-ms or other fancy shit
it's a literal art that comes very easy to people naturally talented at this
and the people working for these companies are literal perfumers who went and did studies in this sense
they are not abdul and ahmed from down the street who went from selling oranges to making perfumes overnight
they have the technology and the skill to do it
they don't do it because that's not what they're after
it's not that hard to understand desu

>when it's more like having assembly, or having access to shredded documents
As someone who works in an analytical chemistry lab, even that is generous.

You get a list of *most* components, the naturals (in the cases those are used) are a smattering of tens of compounds in varying amounts, some of which will get mixed in with the artificial compounds used to mimic natural materials, and you only get rough approximations of concentrations, and even then there’s variability.

This is all working under the assumption that there’s no extraction performed, no derivatization needed, none of your compounds co-elute, and all the trace materials are within your AMR.

But I think we both already know this guy is an idiot.

She likes me wearing woody, earthy frags, so she likes it.
>>18756778
I bought the special 2000ml bottle.
>>
I really think Jazz Club is an underrated frag in terms of performance. My 50ml bottle was purchased in 2021 & is barely halfway finished until i hit a couple sprays for old time's sake today, and it's just as good, no "boozy" spoiled smell. Truly one of the most universally great scents IMO

I liked the new line that Maison released quite a bit, but they're off their rocker with the pricing.

Are you the mf that suggested Marquis de Sade as a pairing with cigarettes
>>
>>18756816
Nah. I don't smoke. Nasty habit.
>>
Is this a good blind buy? My cousin offers a great deal and idk what to expect.
>>
>>18756833
There are no good blind buys.
That said, it’s popular for a reason.

>>18756835
I wonder what it smells like, a lot of flowers in the notes but it's woody aromatic

What frag should I wear as a bald, clean shaven, 185cm, 105kg, 15% bodyfat, lifter of many years?

Hard mode: not Kouros
>>
>>18756843
you're bald, nothing you wear could improve your status
>>
>>18756843
Have you tried the fragrance I was being offered? I mean there's literally bald in it
>>
>>18756847
You mean to say I'm already statusmaxxed? Maybe I'll wear something just for myself then.

>>18756851
I'll sample it next time I get a chance, summer's almost over though.
>>
>>18756751
Absolutely not
>>
>>18756816
Aye, that'd be me, 1740 gives that comfy feeling that cigarette smoke did and if I was still on them, I reckon it'd be an excellent pairing.

>SOTD Fahrenheit Parfum
Reckon this would be another good smokers frag, you get whiffs of it all throughout the day. Sprayed it at 6am and it's currently 6pm, still going strong. More of a citrus rind paired with that leather, less of the plasticky petroleum tool shop smell that the EdT has

I love the floral/fruity smell in the drydown. Kinda odd for a summer fragrance.

Working at an airport in border security, when hazardous items are cataloged some are given away before they are incinerated after they are cleared of being explosive/hazards. My best pull was a near full bottle of French Leather

Only slightly. Sillage is mostly affected by the composition of the fragrance.

Tuscan Leather is probably the most sophisticated fragrance I've ever smelled. It almost has an air of unapproachability to it, an inevitable distance - the scent of a man of excellent breeding, someone who grew up with a governess, someone whose family owns horses, a man who is socially graceful and pleasant, but whose social circle is ultimately impenetrable for the likes of (You). It's not an inviting scent, rather it establishes a border. It's cold, beautiful, but ultimately unobtainable.
>>
>>18756943
Take it to Parfumo or buy space in the advertisement section.
>>
>>18756954
It's not a poem so he has to take it to Fragrantica after putting it through AI to turn it into an essay.
>>
>>18756943
It’s my dad’s signature fragrance. You’re right, it’s quite unapproachable and distant the first time i smelled it. It was unmistakable. The last time he talked to me he called me a “useless faggot” before leaving us. He has a new family now with 3 kids. It always reminds me of him.
Or idk, maybe he wears a similar DNA, lol.

do you have your own opinions, or do you exclusively parrot shit you hear online?

and you fucked it up too because that's the modern SPIRIT flanker, not the original HR.

Anon in Japan here. Took my decant of Imagination out for a spin this weekend. Decent 6-6.5 hours performance with just 3 sprays (2 neck one wrist, dabbed not rubbed). Very pleased. God Damn I love that tea accord. All set for the rest of the summer with this one.

God damn Sartorial is nice. Bottle came in today that I blind bought and I don't regret it at all.

I decided to look through my favorite cheapie "literally who?" brand to see what else they have. And it's unironically just summer frags. Stuff you can imagine that was designed by a guy who thinks Italy is fucking hot, and being by the ocean while you're in Italy while it's hot is the perfect time to spray yourself a billion times.

It then occurred to me that I should probably just buy most of his other frags since combined it'd be less money than any single bottle from a bigger designer brands and a lot of niche ones. (They're all around $20 a pop.) And they all have fairly solid reviews. It'd be an interesting experiment to throw this line against my other summer frags and see how they stand up.

It also got me thinking. Is there any company out there who does this sort of thing? As in they make frags for one very specific scenario and basically nothing else. I was thinking Pineward, but that's not the case. He's just autistic about trees.
>>
>>18757137
Perhaps I’m simply misunderstanding, but I think either nothing will fit your criteria, or tons and tons of things will.

If it were truly one very specific scenario, then they’d only ever make a singular fragrance and then stop. It would be a company that made one fragrance and stopped.

On the other hand, if you want something as you first described it (“unironically just summer frags”) then there are tons. Pineward has branched (no pun intended) out beyond strictly forest themed scents, but was originally “Just tree frags”. Essential Parfums makes “simple” frags, one or two note focused frags that are fairly linear. Akro made topical frags, particularly their original “addictions” line. Maison Tahité makes strictly gourmands. If you want to get a little broader Zoologist makes animal themed frags and Imaginary Authors makes frags based on nonexistent fictional books.
>>
>>18757184
I should have been a bit more clear. I mean a brand that, as a hypothetical example, only make winter fragrances. They don't make anything else. Just fragrances meant for the winter.
>>
Rosemary is an underrated note, I love smelling it in a frag it feels like you own an old wooden cabin on top of a damp foggy Appalachian hill.
