I don't know how old you are, but I firmly believe longer carcoat styles leather jackets with buttons will always look classier and less tryhard that shorter motorcycle and aviation jackets with zippers, especially as you age. I got mine made to order through Thurston Bros and highly recommend checking them out. They really helped a lot with getting the size right since they will will send you a stock size of the jacket you want to try on, then you can tell them exactly what measurements you want to adjust for a custom fit. For instance I had them add a quarter inch to the sleeve length, an inch to the upper arm diameter, and an inch to the shoulder width. They will also send along samples of different types of leather if you ask for them, so you can get a better idea of the actual colors and textures.

You might think that if you don't do that the belt isn't a thing you need to think about but not buckling it up means its a big floppy thing making jingle noises as you walk around. The zippers aren't plastic so every single time you want your wallet you have to drag your hand into what can very much feel like a jar of broken glass. As soon as you think about putting the wallet in your back pocket, your phone in the inside pocket and you'll just not zip it up, you're basically giving yourself reasons not to buy the jacket. Even bikers don't wear this jacket anymore for very good reasons.

When I was young I got a buffalo leather perfecto jacket that I used to wear on an slmost daily basis. I would layer with a short sleeve tee over a longsleeve and even a flannel overshirt or just a tee under the jacket depending on the weather. It's probably still stored away somewhere at my parent's. This thread is making me nostalgic. I'm tempted to look for that jacket but I don't think it'll fit me anymore.

Guess they wanted to get rid of it because I paid about a hundred fifty for it. I beleive it had to be made late 80's or early 90's because buffalo leather was banned sometime around the mid to late nineties in my country. AFAIK it's legal again now that there's people raising buffalo for meat as part of some conservation program. I wore that jacket on an almost daily basis, took it to shows, punk/metal bars, etc. and it still looked almost brand new wjen I wore it for the last time. That sold me on buffalo leather. My only complaint is that it was squeaky as hell and that squeakiness never went away. So eventually I got picrel. Levi's premium jacket made with buffalo leathet also. Feels exactly like my okder jacket and it's just slightly less squeaky. No other leather jcket I own (cowhide, lambskin and goatskin) is squeaky, so I'm guessing it has to do with how fucking rigid buffalo leather is.I want one day to get a horsehide leather jacket, but current prices are insane.

>>18768639Processes are more important than the animal. Generally those cow/buffalo hides are chrome tanned, oily and tumbled which make them very supple, while in horsehide you usually see veg tan which is very stiff and hardest to break-in.

My perfecto had heavy duty ykk zippers with thick teeth and putting my hands on the pockets sometimes felt like sticking them in a wolf's mouth. I didn't really mind, though. It was part of the jacket's character. Along with the heavy damgling belt.Bottom line is, you wear a perfecto for the aesthetic and the connotations, not for comfort. If you want something comfy and inocuous, you wear something else, not a watered down perfecto.

It was a jacket that signaled to me and others "I'm here!" so I always wore it with intention. For a couple of years it was my signature piece. For me comfy clothes are those which you sort of forget you're wearing them. Most leather jackets are heavy enough to do the opposite of that. My point is that, wether you intend it or not, leather jackets are gonna be perceived as intentional by others and you should be aware of that. If you want comfiness and discretion, wear something else than a leather jacket, moreso a perfecto.
