I'm thinking of getting a new fougere. I've found testers for HdP's 1725 and Floris' Elite for around 60 euros each. Which one should I get? I generally prefer greener and sharper scents so I am leaning towards Elite.
>>18759280HdP's 1725 is not green or sharp at all so you should probably do that
Been a while since the original list of masstige slop brands was created. Does anyone here have any new suggestions for brands that have entered masstige slop territory?

>>18759330Corporate acquisition really has neutered/even corrupted a lot of these brands arguably.
>>18759344most likely. perhaps some of the classic frags aren't quite the same as they used to be or the new releases are meh, but i still find a few gems here and there. i don't need to like the brand as a whole to enjoy a frag.>>18759332quite a lot. what are your favorites?
>>18759285Why should I support the left and not the right when the right smells better usually and prices are pretty much the same?I don't understand the masstige hate, people say they smell like designers or arab dupes but they clearly don't unless you are a noselet.

When does this start to get good?
>>18759393When you throw it in the trash and stop buying astroturfed arab shit
>mom said Byzantine Amber smelled very refined and high quality
>>18759358It's just contrarianismSome "masstige" frags are generic and mediocre (bal d'afrique, most of the MFK lineup, pacific chill...), some smell great (naxos, most amouage, POAL...)
>>18759358I know you overpaid for some generic trash so you're defensive but most people would rather pay for the smell and not some scam brand marketing.
>>18759401I got Layton 125ml for 200 eur, please show me something similar smelling from the brands in the left that is also cheaper good sir.
>GIT has the same DNA of the cheap ass cologne my dad usesFuck, should have known.
>>18759405Some deodorant brands like Arrid copied that scent profile. I sprayed some a while ago (also my dad's) and it's exactly like the Cool Water deodorant.
>>18759403Do you think it's a unique fragrance? There are thousands of similar fragrances, not counting the clones.
>>18759358lots of poorfags and contrarians in here
>>18759358i dont get why "smells like designer" is a bad thing when its quite literally meant to be appealing to everyone
>>18759432I guess it means >why pay 300$ for masstige when you can pay 100$ for designerBut usually masstige uses higher quality longer lasting ingredients and the smells are a little more unique to me anyway.
what's the best way to pack your bottles when preparing for a move? my wife and I have about 100 bottles in our collection but we never kept the boxes. should we individually bubble wrap each bottle, lay them on top of each other in a big ass box and hope for the best?
>>18759443Fragrance bottles are ridiculously heavy when bunched together so I suggest a lot of small boxes. 10-20 50ml bottles are heavy and when you get into 100ml and bigger anything over 10 would be heavy. Put them in a tray and lift them so you know what I mean. You can package them as you mentioned if you have the time. Otherwise you can do beer bottle style with thick dividers. Again, lots of smaller groups are preferable to few larger group. Don't forget to use a no residue tape to keep the caps on.
I've found that I don't really resonate with cold, dark fragrances, what're some warm, cozy fragrances? I'm looking at Memoirs Of A Trespasser right now and it seems nice.
>>18759330Once you understand how even independent brands market themselves you will realize they all fit the definition of masstige. 99% of fragrances don't fall under luxury products based on price. The majority are marketed as exclusive, luxurious, and status symbols. Even the smells themselves convey a sense of class and luxury. Very few fragrances convey what I call humble scents and even when they do they are not marketed as such.
>>18759454Don't bother with Imaginary Authors, it's a scam brand. Everyone has a different definition of cozy, for me cozy it's Escada pour Homme on a cold night.
>>18759437>higher quality
>>18759285I am sending incense Anon my sample of Ritual Code, then you niggas will all see. Almost Human will belong on the left. THEY WILL. They may only have five frags, but you watch, in a few years they'll be a sleeper house that people here mention. Also, >PapillonSTOP NOT SHIPPING TO THE US. FUCK.
>>18759285IA needs to be removed, and Mind Games needs to be added to the right.
>>18759423My brother in Christ, most of the niche/artisan brands cost as much, if not more than the designers. Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Amouage are the only ones I know who have a regularly selling line (or just in general) that cost as much/more. Guerlain has their weird Tom Ford looking bottles that cost $600. Chanel and Dior have their private lines. And Amouage just blows niggas out the water with half of their lineup being like 400-500 dollars. In general though, most of those companies are cheaper. That's why they are designer.
>>18759285Where the fuck is Serg? I just noticed he's missing. The French vampire needs to be on here somewhere.
>>18759509I thought masstige was a subcategory of niche not designer?I don't think pdm, amouage, malle etc make anything other than fragrances.Masstige just means "niches /frag/ doesnt like because they're more popular than real niches"
>>18759273
>>18759511I mean, I would argue that there are certain companies which feel like industry plants. Think Ex Nihilo. Masstige has conations associated with brand recognition and spending enough money to indicate the idea of wealth, but not the truth of it. Tom Ford is the definition of masstige, but Tom still has some great frags and you'd actually have to be brain dead to say otherwise. Same with the brands I just mentioned. It's the "Louis Vuitton purse" scenario, that's all. I would avoid masstige unless it was something I actually really wanted (or someone wanted me to have it), because I'd rather give money to that very small company who is whipping shit up in the kitchen for the love of the game. Is it monetarily responsible of me to keep buying MDCI? No, not at all. Do I keep doing it? Yeah, because I think it's funny as fuck how they run their business and I like a decent chunk of their frags.
>>18759273Serious answer
>>18759501Can you send me 300 bucks I just got laid off
>>18759529I'm sorry Anon, I keep buying frags and having to pay insane tariff fees. The Almost Human guy who runs the company and I had a small email exchange after my bottles came in. I initially was going to order two bottles of Dear Future and one bottle of Ritual Code, but I decided to get one of each for the time being. Fucking smart move. It was nearly $90 for 2 bottles of 50ml frags in tariffs. I emailed him about that and how one of the samples he sent me broke somehow (I still don't understand what could have possibly caused it shatter in the box). When I told him how much it cost me in tariffs, he was fucking floored and asked me if they explained what the fuck actually made it so much. I couldn't help the poor guy, but he said he was going to seriously look into this because I imagine it's fucking with his sales and no one was telling him. He also let me know that he's trying to get an stockist in the US ASAP, and that he's working on more frags. I look forward to seeing what he ends up making, but he has to solve that tariff shit. Holy fuck.
>>18759396based
>>18759514>Yeah, because I think it's funny as fuck how they run their businessCan you tell me more about that? Is it like Roger Bird/Bond No9/ Frag Du Bois kind of shit?
>>18759551nta but it's literally the opposite of that (=based af), just check their webpage and you will see (https://parfumsmdci.com/)>1 month+ summer break rn>you can only order frags via e-mail>you can only pay with paypal>etc.
>>18759552It's not even just "can only pay with paypal" it's literally, "You have to go into your PayPal account, enter their email, click on their PayPal account, and then send them money equal to the amount of your order."They just out there swinging their dicks around. Never heard of an invoice in their fucking lives. No idea what the fuck taxes are. Just raw dogging life while using a webpage that looks like it was made in 2002. It's genuinely admirable, reminds me of the bygone era of the Internet where you just had to operate on faith that the other party wouldn't fuck you when you bought something.
>>18759552>>18759554Based. Am I right in thinking that unlike Roja Diva and PDM and others they don't care about hiring tiktok/yt shills at all? I literally only hear about them here on /frag/ and occasionally some blogs from the early 2010s used to discuss Invasion Barbare.
>>18759561>Am I right in thinkingyes, as i said, they are the literal opposite of frauds like roger bird
>>18759561The closest you'll get is someone having to buy samples or bottles with money out of their own pocket to do a review. I think that Seldomly Updates guy (not sure if that's his name) did a review containing Invasion Barbare and Chypre Palatin a while back among like a dozen other frags. Everyone who knows MDCI only knows them because of those two, but I've been able to sample around 90% of their fragrances since I was nice to the dude who handles their orders. They definitely have some other stuff worth buying. Now, it's a complete value judgement on whether or not you think there are better comparable frags at a better price. But I'll still buy MDCI because "lol, lmao". Well, that and their sample system is ridiculous. I wish they were large enough to have like 100 frags on offer because then I'd just buy MDCI for their sample system alone. It's literally almost an entire bottle for free each time you order a bottle directly from them. It's 62 or 67ml worth of samples WITH EACH BOTTLE. Fucking insane. If you order 4 bottles, and ask for the right samples, you basically just got 8 bottles at no additional cost. I don't know of any brand on the market who even comes close to that.
>>18759512I KNEEL>>18759315yes, dune is like fig/sunscreen, while platinum egoiste is more like lavender/metallic to me

>>18759501100% agree about Papillon only shipping to the UK, I'm dying to try some of their frags. They have samples over at Ecuacion Natural but I'm waiting for them to restock on Rogue's stuff before placing an order.>>18759546>solve the tariff shitWhat's there to solve?Protectionism is in fashion, foreign imports in the US are taxed to hell and back as a political maneuver, foreign imports in the EU are taxed more and more each year because it's trendy and it's more tax money anyway, and businesses have to pay taxes on imports just the same as private customers.Things are unlikely to change significantly in the future because why would anybody in office lower taxes ever when they have such a good excuse not to (it's the previous administration's fault)? The only way for a european brand to avoid import duties and taxes in the US is contraband.>>18759554>no idea what taxes areThey charge different amounts based on the shipping destination depending on VAT, so I imagine they do know what taxes are, they just don't want to pay for a payment processor to be able to handle orders automatically and via other payment methods.

Dude holy shit. I wore Megamare by the sea and it does smell like the ocean. Well not totally 100% but it’s like waves crashing on shore covered with white, nice smelling flowers. Insane. Any cheapies that comes close to this experience?
>>18759515What fragrance is that?
>>18759582The fuck are you talking about, megamare just smells like amberwoods and calone, I'd barely call it a marine fragrance
>>18759580>they just don't want to pay for a payment processor to be able to handle orders automatically and via other payment methods.Which they have to do because the payment processor handles taxes different if it's a business transaction (G&S) versus F&F. They don't care how you send the money, so long as you send the total sum. That could get them in trouble because the correct amount isn't being withheld but they don't seem to give a shit, lmao. They are factoring a tax into the transaction, but not all the correct sorts of tax.

Would Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford be acceptable as a year round signature scent? I bought Pacific Chill as my first fragrance but it has no longevity. People save avoid it in the summer but I would go light as an office cuck, two sprays max.

What are the best leather fragrances that actually smell like leather?
What is your autism when it comes to frags? I like to test frags and see if I can figure out the notes by myself before researching them on fragrantica and in their websites. Today I tried Platinum Egoiste, very fresh and classy. From the first spray, I found it similar to Neroli Portofino at first and found out that it has neroli and lavender so got those right, at a closer sniff I got vetiver and some woody elements since it reminded me of Encre Noire, which I found out to be indeed vetiver and sandalwood. At last, there is the "oldschool" element in common with my Yatagan, which I expected to be oakmoss. Didn't get the floral elements right and it felt a bit citric because of the musk but it's part of the experience of smelling the mix.>>18759582Hell yeah, I was planning on doing that next week in my trip to the beach, happy to know I'm not the only marine enjoyer.>>18759593Not if it's too warm, but overall yeah it's a great frag.>SOTD Platinum Egoiste
>>18759760notes are often bullshit. better to think about styles, genres, accords. platinum egoiste is the most similar to other 90s fresh fougeres like ck eternity for men, but with that creamy sandalwood base added
>>18759691>if you're not a noselet, your enjoyment of a frag's scent will depend on the fact that you associate it with a brandIt sounds like you care about branding more than people who buy """masstige""" of designer frags do.

>>18759866I will is sloppa, not something I expected Armani brand to release. SWY is also mass npc pleaser but at least it is decent. Very high price too for what it doesSpeaking of price, wish I found something like Creed Viking but cheaper, not going to spend that on funky water
Why is Incident Diplomatique 75ml same price as 100ml? Was 100ml the old bottle design or something?
>>18759262>>18759872Incidentally I’m testing Viking for the first time today, and while I’m really enjoying it I’d never pay Creed prices for it, even from a discounter. There’s a lot of things in here I like, but I think it’s the clove that’s pulling extra weight.
>>18759829Fragrances dont get you women. Women dont sit there and think, "hes mid but hes wearing cologne so ill fuck him" and they also don't care if chad is wearing fahrenheit because theyre going to want to fuck him regardless

You’ll find various descriptions on each page including woody, ambery, cedar etc.
>>18759893Here comes an effort post. Colognes help my man. You need to think of this as a rating system, it's a sliding scale that you have power over but you also need to keep in mind that what is one chick's ten is another girl's four. This could be because ethnicity, bodytype, clique, etc. It's not so simple as whether or not a guy has hunter eyes, cut glass cheek bones, and a chiseled jaw. It actually can be the opposite, and this isn't some odd cope. Neuroscientists studying women (specifically young ones, because all these studies always use college age participants for the most part), found that what women perceive as attractive in a very narrow set of constraints is largely cyclical. The cycle is their hormones. When a woman approaches the peak of her hormonal production during the month, she is more likely (not guaranteed) to favor men who have sharp features and greater dimorphism between her and him (more muscle mass). This is why dating apps spawned the word "face card" and why you see an outsized number of women directing towards a smaller pool of men. They are participating in a survey they aren't even aware they're in, one designed to restrict the factors which a woman has access to when determining if she wants to mate with a guy down to the very thing I just described. It's why the study was carried out in the first place. Now, here's the interesting thing, once their peak hormonal drive has ended for the month their attractions will invert. They will favor men with softer features, rounder faces, and less dimorphism between them over the prior group when rating for physical attraction. Robert Sapolsky (he's a very famous primatologist and neurologist) writes about this in his book "Determined", but he's also used when speaking on it he used the hypothetical example of why the same woman watching LoTR will find Legolas more attractive than Sam during a few days of the month, but then will find Sam more attractive than Legolas on different days.
>>18759893>>18759935Ultimately this board is social signalling. You are trying to socially signal that you groom yourself, you work on yourself, that you do the things that primates look for in mates. This is why I mentioned cliques. An African American woman might find a Chinese guy to be on the low end of what she finds attractive, but an African American male at the high end. So, you have that. Then within this, you have to drill down. Does she find goofy guys attractive or thugs? Does she find working professionals attractive or blue collar men? Those factors are predetermined and outside of your control, but you have control over various other factors that I just mentioned. Do you dress well? You better, but just because you dress well that doesn't mean she finds your style to be what she likes. Either way, it indicates effort. Are you wearing cologne? Is it a kind she likes? Maybe, maybe not. You can't control if she likes it, but you can control that you're wearing it and how much you're wearing. Does it smell nice? Does it smell expensive? Does it smell mature? Those are all different things, and she could like all, any, or none of them but again, you are engaging in grooming behaviors which she will recognize and appreciate. If you're dressing well. Are you wearing a very avant garde outfit that requires a certain kind of taste and interest in fashion? Are you wearing a well tailored suit? Are you wearing nicely made work wear? Again, this fits back into cliques, but if you are wearing nice clothes and it's self evident that you are then you can draw the eye. It may not get her to fuck you. You might still be an autistic sperg. What this does do is open the door. The hormonal gravitational towards certain men is something every man should keep in mind. A woman is more likely to give you a chance if you've got your shit on.Now, you can ignore all this. Wear what you want. Act how you want. Go spray animalic ouds on yourself.

I'm a sucker for that chestnut note. I think I just really like nutty scents, it's at the point that I might try hunting down a fragrance with a pronounced peanut butter accord. If that exists. I Will is okay, the SWY line is decidedly better but I Will has more versatility. The bergamot and more pronounced lavender makes it seem fresher and not a crazy choice for spring and cooler summer days. I'm never gonna go out of my way to buy a bottle of I Will but if I happen across a decant of it I'd wear it for a couple days. There isn't really much to say about I Will, just another pleasant vanilla lavender fragrance.

I'm the anon who shook some of his frags, 10 days passed, put away all of them, only keeping track of a few edts and one edp. This stinging alcoholic smell still persist, though it might have died down a bit, depends on the bottle, after spraying and a little drying the watery edts and the one edp smells somewhat close to the original, but still perceivably off.The problem is i'm finding nothing online about this, they have been shaken one time, like you'd do with a bottle of settled milk, and search results say it shouldn't ruin the whole thing permanently. By now they should long be back to normal, nothing is off in color or fluid state, all legit batches kept in a wardrobe, all new. Yet they smell like fucking chernobyl paint thinner, I really don't get it.Anyone had their frag change in smell, and if so what gypsy magic worked to return it to original? >inb4 dump all and just buy a vintage Kouros
>>18760380Are you sure shaking ruined them and not something else?I saw a decant packing video on instagram from a random store and they were shaking theirs before packing, figured if they are shaking it then it can't be bad right? Or maybe they're stupid. Here found it:https://www.instagram.com/p/DUGqluqiPUS/
>>18760383Every decant you've ever bought has been shaken to shit when you remember how packages are treated.
>>18760383Can't think of anything else, all of them have the same sting to it, smells like harsh alcohol. There were air bubbles dispersing on the top. I shook them with smaller but faster movements like in the video but for 3-5 secs at best. No idea why the guy does it, or what's the purpose, but in my defense I didn't expect this result either. And obviously, from the factory to my room it already received a lot of shakes. My last hope (and cope) is that 1-2 weeks more, then I'll spray 5-10 out of them, let it settle for a day or two and see if the top air gets separated enough from the juice, after the apparently oxidizing experience. Maybe my nose is more sensitive, it would explain how "certain bangers" smell bad or nothing too often.
>>18760385Wouldn't that be true for bottles too?
>>18760392Maybe pick one that you don't like as much and shake it a lot more see if that harsh smell becomes more potent compared to the others? Just to confirm if shaking it caused it or not.

>>18761135>>18761158ALSO >LE REDDIT BRAND
>>18761158>one anon that absolutely spergs out whenever they're mentioned>for some reasonThe reason is that I wish someone had warned me when I spent $130 for a discovery set that the brand is run by a literal jew, that all the reviews are people who got free samples, that there isn't a single good fragrance from the entire line, and that they all smell synthetic and cheap to the point of being unusable. Literally the worst brand and there are a lot of bad ones. Feel free to go ahead and waste your money, I'm just telling others what I wish I knew.
>>18761131>afnan supremacy incenseIt was my first arab dupe, really enjoy it but it's rare for me to go for this one on a casual day. Afnan really stands out as the brand that can pull off great frags, wish they weren't so shilled as people tend to bunch their frags with the Armafs and Lattafas when they're tiers above in both quality and presentation.
>>18761204Lots of brands are run by literal Jews. BDK, Chanel.
>>18761131I think Oud for Glory smells like diesel. I even macerated the bottle for a month to try and improve it, and it kept the same extremely powerful diesel smell. Ditched right after.

Jews are good, 3 hunna hit!!!!
>>18761186I loved it the first time I tried it and the second I kinda agree with you something feels low quality idk how to explain it that's why I made that post.So far I haven't changed an opinion on a single frag that I tried multiple times.
>>18761221I don't buy from them, any others?
>>18760716>>18761186Jazz Club smells like old cigarette ash stomped into the carpet of a lobby. I’m not sure it’ll that’s what others smell. It’s enjoyable for its campiness, but it’s not something I would wear regularly on its own. I have layered it to add depth to other things and it works well for that. >>18761213Afnan has INCREDIBLE original scents, which are generally oils marketed to the east. All of their western dupe sprays have a unilateral plum+metallic synthetic that ruins all of them. Supremacy line is tolerable because that metallic quality works in favor of that fragrance DNA. Supremacy in Heaven was the only full bottle of theirs I bought. Collectors edition is also nice. I hated pretty much everything else in the sample sets and SOOOO glad I didn’t blind buy. They have well made minimalist bottles by comparison of Lattafa. I’ll give them that. Lattafa doesn’t take itself too seriously though, it’s sold to middle age Mexican moms at Burlington. >>18761224I sold Oud for Glory two years ago, kept a decant, and hated it every time I smelled it. Came back to it recently and now it’s really good fruity budget Oud. Would not repurchase bc wtf is that wait time. Plenty of others like Riiffs Momento that are similar to OfG macerated, right out the box.
>>18761135As >>18761158 stated, there’s one Anon here who simply never passes up an opportunity to shit on them. They’re not as bad as he implies, perhaps just mediocre. Imo, they’re like just about any other small brand - they have their successes, they have their misses. If I wanted to be really critical of them I would say they don’t have any real *huge* hits like Mousse Illuminée, New York Intense, Invasion Barbare, etc. Obviously /frag/ will be abhorred, but my favorite is A Whiff of Wafflecone, not only do I enjoy it but everyone around me loves and comments on it. Bull’s Blood is also pretty good, it’s like a baby brother to Tyrannosaurus Rex. A City on Fire is also a good, smoke heavy frag. Again, somewhat reminiscent of Tonnerre without the aquatic top note.
