They changed their image a couple years ago and I hate the new shit -- lots more browns and it feels like some safari old money larp. They also stopped selling 36" inseam pants, so fuck 'em, I have to get my pants from GAP now.

I have a BR suit and a BR bomber jacket. They have some good individual pieces if you pick and choose, but I wouldn't want to get my whole wardrobe from there because their 'wearing linen at a beach resort' vibe does not speak to me and comes across as pretty gay.

It's a very solid mall brand. I have a lot of stuff from them - but you need to buy it on sale. They regularly go on sale for 30-40% off, so everything is marked up by around that.

Note than when I say solid, it's not high-end, but if you look at the materials/etc (avoid polyester/etc. if shopping in-person give the construction a quick check e.g. the seams, zippers, etc) it can be very solid mid-tier stuff. Much better than Zara/H&M, but noticably worse than actually upper-mid-tier stuff that you can get for regular BR full prices, but they go on sale often e.g. you might get a $120 item marked down to $80 then "30% off all sale items" -> it's now $56 and a good deal. $80 would have been like what it's probably worth, and $120 is just overpriced for what it is.

Also make sure it's regular BR, as BR Factory is different quality. They specifically make the stuff for the Factory outlet so the materials and/or construction are compromised more to get those lower prices.

tl;dr: very solid brand, but only buy on sale due to markups

Depends where you are. Spier & McKay is great value but is more traditional menswear, although they have some trendier stuff too sometimes. If you're in the US you'll pay extra as of lately due to orange man's tarriffs unfortunately. Value is very high if you're north of the border though. Sizing is fairly slim but they offer different cuts and the sizing tables are measured per-garment so are fairly trustworthy, unlike the BR ones that they try and make one for all tops, etc. These also go on sale after a period of time, but a lot of the common sizes go fast (long before any discounts) on lighter colors, or e.g. mid-gray flannels. Online-only unless you're in I think Toronto?

Suit Supply is a solid option, but is a little higher in price. If you're in a big city you probably have an in-person store too.

Online-only but the brand Cultum from China seems decent. I've got a few of their trousers so I can only comment on those, but they were <$100 for decent quality high-rise ones. I'd put them as above BR in quality, but below S&M.

I get putting it below Suit Supply, but Old Navy/GAP? That sounds just silly. I own 20_ things at least from BR and from S&M each and for the most part find S&M to be higher quality, although BR fits me better without having to tailor it. BR seems to be almost all plastic buttons, the wool is from mystery mills (vs e.g. Abraham Moon, etc for S&M). Although I do find the finishing on S&M's knitwear to be sometimes shoddy (I had an issue with a sleeve of one piece after only a couple wears, had to mend it myself, although I have like 15+ of their knitwear). I guess maybe for pique polos or something BR is better? For design sure, BR has trendier styling and generally looks better outside of a formal menswear context. Definitely 100% not better quality for suiting or shirting. Actually I guess jeans are better at BR but I wouldn't go to EITHER of those companies for jeans unless they're deeply discounted.

For linen S&M seems better quality (but BR better styling). BR linen is better than a lot of other mall brand linen at least (bar is low though) so it's not bad.

For sportcoats or trousers S&M wins easily. Especially if you like high-rise ones.

For sizing consistency BR wins (being able to blind-buy based on size), but their size charts aren't per garment.

For OCBDs I'd put S&M over BR.

For tailoring easily S&M

For less formal styling BR wins

For actually being able to try stuff on in any major city BR wins

They're fine. Quality has gone down and a lot of stuff there now has plastic blended in. At one time they had the best cotton chinos at the mall. But still probably the best store in the mall with the 40% off. Everyone's quality has gone down to be fair.

I find their dress shirts/casual shirts are made for basedboys. I have to size up a whole size to fit my chest, shoulders and biceps then get a tailor take the waist in. Decent quality though.
A lot of their other stuff looks like its for hippy trash.

Im Canadian so order quite a bit of Spier and Mackay lately after Brooks Brothers left Canada a few years back. Its definitely better quality than Banana Republic. I buy mainly business casual items from them though.
