your tastes are formed until your mid twenties, after that your brain stops assimilating stuff and any new trend won't elicit your interest anymore
it's why every single generation complains about how the new one dresses, why millenials thought 69 was funny but think 67 is a sign kids are doomed, etc

"Alt" fashion has been shit ever since it became a clearly identified mass-produced corporate style. The "mall goth" and nu metal looks of the 90s/00s were just as plastic and ghetto.
