>>18765607I'm an actual trade guy, a machinist and work alongside a bunch of welders and some maintenance guys/mechanics. Everybody wears Carhartt. I don't know where this idea that Carhartt is only for hipsters these days came from, yeah some of them wear it but it's mostly the "WIP" fashion line that's a whole separate thing from the actual workwear. It's also really hard to beat for the money. Dickies or rando store brands feel like they're made of paper and fall apart in months. Kuhl and other higher end brands want like $140 for a pair of pants. Carhartt meanwhile is like $60 for a pair of duck pants that'll last years and I've honestly had OK luck so far with the Rugged Flex pants too but my one pair is less than a year old so we'll see how they hold up. I also find their fit better than other brands and they nail the pocket design, big enough to be useful but not so big that stuff falls over and gets stuck sideways in them.

Basic Dickies t-shirts are almost see-through while the Carhartt shirts I own are real heavy-duty.That being said I like wearing those lighter Dickies shirts more than the stiff-feeling Carhartts. I've also always been partial to how the Dickies' "trademark" frontal crease on their pants looks.

Anything that's good will eventually become popular with shitters and if you turn your nose up at all of it you'll end up only having abject garbage or ridiculous pretentious shit that makes you even more hipster than the hipsters left. Living in an area that's right around a 50/50 mix of gentrified hipster downtown and suburban/rural blue collar I see probably 10x the number of actual blue collar guys in Carhartt as I do hipsters in it too. Funny story BTW, I'm in middle of nowhere Oregon about 3 hours from Portland, and a few months ago I was in the workwear section at the ranch store. An employee was talking to me and I noticed that they had some ugly bright blue limited edition Carhartt jackets (pic related) and I said something about it, and he told me that they'd had like 30 of them and they'd been shelfwarming for months until some random Portland hipster came in, saw them, and started completely freaking out about how rare they were and then bought like 5 of every size to take back and resell. There's no universal answer, I believe.I accept that Ben Davis pants are better even though I don't have access to them as someone in EU - but the 874 is also ideal for my climate and anything thicket would get worn less. My mainline new-detroit jacket is the best fitting and looking and feeling jacket I have, although I mostly wear my red tornado old-school detroits and my carhartt-wip ones more.Dickies - as mentioned 874 for me both fit amazing, work for all cold months given my mild climate and also I love how they look once they're older. I also bought a couple of pairs of 877 canvas pants and they're just amazing in terms of fit, hand feel etc. I don't like how most of their jackets fit or even small details like the stitching color etc. but they're much more affordable than carhartt usually and when you find something that works for you it's great to have a cheap jacket that is as good as theirs are - I got an unlined hooded bomber that feels just AMAZING in hand, and I got for 40 euro I think.
