americana for me is about a nostalgia for an idealized version of america. whether that version of america actually existed or not is irrelevant
workwear and heritage clothing exists because people look to the past when clothes were better, made better, better materials. they want to go back to that version of america
western looks back to the wild west period which was foundational to so many american myths and stories, despite the actual period not being near as "wild" as the stories say
same thing with ivy/prep. people are looking back to a "more civilized" time in american history when people dressed better, were interested in intellectualism and education, etc. same reason people are dressing up in suits now. the suit is dead, but what it represents to them is a different and better time to the wearer

basically to me, americana is just nostalgia for a version of america that doesn't exist anymore. i kinda dig it
