Someone recommended these last thread, are they actually good?
I can't find much about the brand online at all.

I'm not sure if it's just the picture but something about them looks off to me...
>>
>>18779817
the laces are weird imo but you can just replace them
>>
>>18779817
yanko makes entry level boots for entry level prices
their lasts are old(er) and narrow(er) than some other brands but price to quality is really good
>I'm not sure if it's just the picture but something about them looks off to me..
the cap toe ones look better, plain toe boots need a very good last to look good

top gear top tip: skolyx runs a nice black friday sale, so you might want to wait for that

>>18779818
yeah that too, flat laces read as casual to me, when the boot itself is less so
>>
>>18779817
Yanko is very much legit, I own a pair of cxl derbies from them also bought from Skolyx. Solid construction and last, very fairly priced. Though since they are cxl I'm considering upgrading to paraboot eventually just to have better patina over time but those are literally double the cost.

I was actually looking at a pair of those...

I'm confused now though, when I search elsewhere I always see people say cxl ages and patinas beautifully since it's only surface level dyed which causes the original leather color to shine through with time or something like that, is that not the case? There's so much conflicting info there, I don't get it

It's fine, just like Viberg and everything else, it got way overhyped couple years back, then that turned into a ton of hate, because it inevitably didn't live up to some imaginary online expectation of "the ultimate boot leather" and the notion at that time that a budget boot was somehow elevated to greatness simply by using CXL. That was also around the time of the lockdowns when Horween couldn't supply enough of it, which played into this narrative of a coveted grail leather.
The whole "CXL lottery" thing also got flipped on it's head. Initially it was about winning the lottery, because a nice tight break at the vamp was the exception and not the rule. That turned into the expectation and not getting that beautiful Instagram boot meant you got screwed over by Nick Horween himself. CXL sort of became a victim of it's own success and the reputation of "loose grain" got attached to it, mostly unfairly. It is hardly the only leather that gets a course break, but due to the fact that was the only leather the average guy recognized and the sheer volume of pics that was all people saw online. The leather is pretty unforgiving as far as clicking and shows the creasing very fast due to how soft it is. Combine that with the race to the bottom of having the cheapest CXL service boot possible meant people saw it a ton of badly clicked boots that creased fast and inconsistently.
>my new shitty ass Oak Street boots look like a wrinkly ballsack, how could Horween do this to me
I think people got over it mostly and are more realistic about what it is or isn't. Then again you see people now chasing after jeet boots and chinesium shell cordovan, so nothing actually really changed.
>>
>>18779865
Still parroting this reddit nonsense?
>>
what is the best leather for boots in the 300-400 bucks segment then if cxl is shit now and ages poorly
>>
>>18779892
The Indy is on the Trubalance last which is the GOAT last. Wider toe box for maximum comfort up front, narrow heel to keep you secure and in place. And the Thomas heel really does make a difference. It's just so perfect, and it looks really nice too. Countless brands have tried to do an Indy copy and some, for example Parkhurst, came pretty close, but no one can get it right
>>
About 10+ years ago someone on reddit decided that their less than desirable creasing on their CXL boots was "loose grain" and ever since they have been calling anything that wrinkles "loose grain"

I like cxl cause I wear my boots like once in a blue moon for fashion and aren't actually running them into the fucking ground like some slave out in the cotton fields

cxl isn't trash but you have to be really good when cutting the hide. most brands can't accept the required wastage so you end up with "the lottery". unless you're buying from someone like viberg theres a chance your boot turns into a wrinkly ballsack
>>
>>18779957
It is not necessary to buy horse-ass. Just buy proper full-grain leather, not random industrial experiments some fat retard came up with. Waxed suede (suede that is impregnated with wax, rather than suede that has been coated with wax) is a good pick for a casual boot. It can handle any weather and won't require looking after for a long time. But you want to be more specific, what KIND of boot are you looking for besides just casual? Where and what do you intend to wear it with?
>>
The red wing troll desperately wants people to take him seriously. Just wait and see how angrily he responds to my post
>>
>>18780356
I mostly just want something in brown that's not a sneaker that I can wear with chinos (beige, tan, olive, navy) and jeans (dark blue, black). I'm not gonna go hiking in them or do any real work, just normal stuff.
I think I prefer more simple designs that aren't super ornate and not that dressy. Someone linked these before (https://www.skolyx.com/p/yanko-cap-toe-service-boot-dark-brown-chromex) and I quite like how they look, but all that CXL talk made me super wary and I'm really not sure what I should get now.

Are they trying to compete in the same market segment with Trickers and C&J?
>>
>>18780405
Nope. It doesn't work that way
And if your waxed jacket is waxed on the inside it means the manufacturer didn't know what they were doing and are just hopping on the waxed trend.
>>
>>18780407
Nah, it wasn't waxed on the inside. The stickiness from outside inevitably makes its way everywhere. Like my car seats had stains on them and shit.
So waxed suede isn't sticky and if I rub on it with fabric it won't get anything on there?

Mccoy is a Japanese man, the proper way to say it in japanese is Maku Koi. He is the best shoemaker because American can’t make shits worth putting your feet into, if American larpers want boots or denim, they buy from Maku-san. He adopted the epithet “Real” because he is a fan of the La liga club Real Sociedad.

RRL boots? Any good?
>>
>>18782079
Likely very good but you're paying a shitload. Boots that cost half as much are already very high end and last forever, I'm not sure what you get for another 500.
>>
>>18782090
>likely very good
I'd bet a finger they use celastic toes and similar shit
>>
>>18782091
They use Cheaney and Rios of Mercedes as their partners.
>>
>>18782093
So?
>>
>>18782094
So basically chop off your finger and post proof you muppet
>>
>>18782096
Rios of Mercedes is a literally who and Cheaney also uses celastic toes, so what's your point exactly?
>>
>>18779496
found these vintage scarpas on depop. thoughts? should I?
>>
>>18782079
Cheaney made boots for $1000. You're better of buying Cheaney, C&J or Tlb.

buttero mogs all the dogshit in this thread
>>
>>18782113
Buttero leather, yes, 100%. Buttero brand, no.
>>

Visually confused boots there. Looks like cheap 3 piece construction, doesn't even hide the stiching like they arent even embarassed. They make a moc which is by all accounts cheaper construction and more casual and then they decided to shine them up like they're dress boots. What a confused looking pair of boots
>>
>>18782111
Imagine spending $100 on used shoes
>>
>>18782111
If you want hiking boots I'm really not sure why you'd get anything but Limmer.
>>
>>18782155
Indy boots are shit in fact

LeCortina is even superior, but you have obviously never heard of them.

Why do /fa/ hate thusday boots? Its the perfect rugged boot

Walked too much in new boots I haven't broken in yet and got blisters :(

Happens brother. I recommend moleskin patches for the rubbing areas. Regular bandaids fall off too easily
>>
give me the quick rundown on pebbled grain
>>
>>18782316
Feels nice and is a nice change from smooth leather
My go-to dress shoes are pebble grained NST derbies from TLB
>>
>>18782079
they're whitelabeled boots so you're better off going to the original manufacturers
>>
for me it's horsebutt
>>
>>18782362
kek never seen it that bad but shinki horsebutt seems to have more loose grain than other horsebutt. Seen some pretty bad shinki Lofgrens too. What’s going on? Can the Japanese not into horsebutt?
>>
>>18782362
bbl recipient horse
thats cxl tier
>>
>>18782155
Why would they hide the stitching? The stitching is the main aesthetic feature of NSTs and Mocs.
>>
>>18782450
hes retarded and knows about blind stitching but doesnt understand time and place
ignore

Think I got a bit unlucky with the creasing/rolling on mine, the pictures I've seen online of other people's worn and patinaed horseass boots from Addict look better.
I believe they get their horsebutt from Maryam though.

Do boots with collapsed shafts like that feel uncomfortable? It looks like it would feel bad unless you had really thick socks on.
>>
>>18782673
not at all the shaft isn't tight at all the main parts that makes the boot fit is the front of the throat and the backstay the shaft is actually just kinda there unless you got real fat lower calves or something

Viberg are so sure you're going to cream your jorts they can't be assed to wait and make a few pairs to photograph before taking your money.
>>
>>18782703
>viberg
Buy them if you're desperate for attention and validation.
>>
>>18782703
Viberg is so fucking embarrassing as a company
Only Dalton was more embarrassing as a PNW brand
>>
>>18782709
From who? No one bother irl boot autists would ever know what they are
And those types are not as common and you think
>>
>>18782710
I think Viberg is consciously trying to move upmarket. As office dress codes become more lax it's become somewhat popular to wear alternatives to formal shoes in the office. The 2030 fits in this space nicely and people are willing to pay, so of course they're chasing the money. Why else would they branch out into lines of more formal shoes and open a store in NYC.
I own a few pairs that I bought 3-4 years ago. >>18782709 would probably call me an attention whore, but I like the look and the fit. I don't expect attention and for the most part don't receive any, but the Vibergs are the only footwear I've ever actually gotten compliments on, so take that for what it's worth.
All that said, Viberg's greed is just becoming more and more apparent. They're really trying to milk their past reputation for all it's worth.
>>
>>18782709
That doesn’t even make sense. No one’s gonna find out that you’re wearing Viberg since there’s no label or brand name on the boots.
>>
>>18782546
clicking is fake and manufacturers don't matter bro totally just luck of the draw
lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place, or does it?
>>
>>18782737
their prices have gone out of control
shell vibergs used to cost $1k retail around 2020/21 vs a regular service boot $750
today their shell costs $2,25k and their regular service boot $1300
so a regular $250-300 upcharge for shell, which is pretty standard for across the board became a cool $1k upcharge
are they using 3-4x more shell now?

brett viberg saw that the shell pre-orders were selling out in minutes just to be put on ebay/reddit by flippers for profit and said to himself why don't i just do that myself lmao if people are willing to pay that much
it's market pricing
>>
>>18782779
Pretty much spot on. As long as they keep selling out the prices will keep rising.
>>
>>18782754
how do you crease the toe tip?
shipping out cxl as horse
>>
>>18782703
this should be illegal
