Is there ANY other shoe like Alden modified last? It's the only comfortable shoe I've ever worn, but availability is limited in my size and it's expensive to build out a collection
I'm not trying to be mean or anything but this is far more likely to be answered on reddit but of course try the big main brands and for a boot type last i'd say American is probably how you wanna go, not some place like Italian
>>18780409what's your size my n-word. I just got my first pair, love them. they almost feel too big, but they aren't. i've just been tortured my whole life by my freakish foot shape that literally no other shoe (probably) is designed to fit.Like the color on those, not a huge fan of moc toes boots, but maybe i'll come around.let me know if you find something else. i'm thinking of doing some cheaper custom made south american shoes.
>>18781542These are 6eee but I think they may be slightly too wide after they broke in, so I'm going to try 6ee next time. When I originally went to Moulded Shoe, he sized me into 6eeeee because of my extremely high arches, but those shoes became pretty loose after a few weeks of wear
>>18781552one thing I'm trying is shoes with soft leather / chromexcel/suede in a wide fit. way more comfortable even when the fit isn't always perfect do to the leather deforming with your foot. I really like my sperry gold cut boat shoe sin a wide. heels slightly loose, but overall super comfy to raw dawg. goat skin interior.
>>18780409What shoes are this
>>18780409how does it compare to the trubalance?

>>18781615I've never worn any other Aldens, but the main unique features of modified last are:- very narrow, but tall through the mid foot, which causesthe upper leather to wrap under your arch and provides lots of support. It's like wearing a stiff leather sock- the footbed also has arch support- smaller in the heel- roomy and rounded in the forefoot (I think this is supposed to be similar to trubalance)
>>18781632oh wow, what you're describing actually sounds like a perfect last for my feet. i have sky high arches and instep. i've been told by many that i have the highest arches they've ever seeni like the trubalance because of the wide toebox but narrow heel. sounds like the modified is similar but with added arch support
>>18781638Unfortunately there's only one place where you can try them on in the US, in Manhattan. I'm lucky to only live two hours away and it was really worth making the trip.I have heard that the 55 last used by companies such as Nick's and White's has lots of arch support, but I wish there were somewhere I could try them on before spending 700 on a custom shoe
>>18781642true, you really don't want to buy these without first trying them on. they might really really not fit your foot and then you spent a shit load of money on these. Also these aren't a custom shoes. Not trying to fact check you, but it's an important distinction because Moulded Shoes will actually make you custom shoes from scratch (they have a cobbler upstairs). That's another option most people don't think about. More expensive tho.>>18781638The instep doesn't feel that high to me. I had a bootfitting machine measure my instep hight and it was almost off the chart lmao.
>>18781841By custom shoes I meant Nick's/White's. They don't have almost anything in stock ready to wear, so you need to order your size and then wait multiple months for them to make it by hand.Re: instep height. Both the pairs of modified I've bought (calfskin balmorals and cxl Indys) were actually kinda of tight in the instep when I first got them, but they stretched out quickly, I think because your arch also exerts downwards pressure on the leather in that part of the shoe due to the tight waist
The only shoes I ever wear anymore after discovering the modified last are my LL Bean Duck Boots. They're extremely roomy all over, so you don't get the same benefit as the narrow heel on the modified last, but the heel is decently cupped and the uppers are stiff enough that if I lace them tightly they keep my heel locked in. Because they're so deep, you can put any arch support or orthotics you want in them. The rubber is very flexible and conforms very well to my foot shape. If you have misshapen (hammer) toes like me, you'll have to wear thick wool socks every time you wear them or the rubber will irritate your toesI use the Natural Foot Orthotics Original Stabilizer, which is the only over-the-counter-product I've found that comes close to having a high enough arch for me AND ALSO Nick's Delta Arch insoles, which are leather insoles that are built up in the inner archhttps://www.naturalfootorthotics.com/products/original-stabilizerhttps://nicksboots.com/products/deltaarch-full
>>18781870interesting>>18781899lol, i have a pair but those duck boots aren't something I'm going to wear too much. not super versatile. maybe I should've got the lined ones.seriously though, try sperry gold cups in wide. insanely comfortable. Not terribly supportive, but I wouldn't use them if I was doing a tremendous amount of walking, but for getting to and from and a bit of walking they are beautiful. i go for 30 minutes walks in them and their fine
>>18780409Get Nike TNs dragon drifts instead
>>18781943Unfortunately, and this is the other reason I struggle so much with shoes, they don't have them in my size. My brannock is about 5.5eee. I'm able to make do with size 6 in laced shoes, but my heel always slips all the way out in any loafers. Sperry only goes down to 7
I think the next experiment I'd like to try is the munson last. I found this on a a manufacturer's website and it sounds a lot like what I like about the modified last:>Because our shoes are designed with a narrow waist that wraps the side of the arch from above like a leather sock, it keeps it supported but lets it expand and contract to stay in place and to get strong.https://saddlebackleather.com/orthopedic-shoe-shape-last-form?srsltid=AU7gw4Xbfnci1JqfzpNH8hlafq16_FjUl9B2iNljf09C2fAhs4YAz34t
