When it gets to a certain length you just trim it to fix the overall shape or get rid of any split ends. If you currently have a buzzcut then you don't need to do anything until then except take good care of your head, there isn't enough length yet to do anything with it. - t. long hair haver

Depends on your hair and head, how it parts, and whatever style you're after. Hairdressing is a trained discipline for a reason, but if you have a good idea of how your body and looks tend to work you can sometimes play it by ear and see what works as you go.

trim from the back of the head to get it closer to a one length haircut, otherwise it will look like a mullet. in general you want the hair from the front/top of your head to be longer. that way you also kinda avoid the awkward stages, and if it starts to look too feminine you can add layers or something.

as the other anon said however, all of this is not really relevant if you currently have a buzz. for now you can just let it grow.
