When the roofed automobile made hats optional, they became costumes of subcultures and lost all neutrality.

When a subculture completely colonizes an item of clothing, it leaves zero room for an outsider to wear it neutrally. If you wear it, you are either participating in that subculture or you look like a tourist who stumbled into the wrong section of a clothing store.

Let’s look at the scoreboard after digging through centuries of human history:

Baseball caps: Ruined by sports tribalism, corporate branding, and trashy youth culture.

Fedoras / Porkpies / Trilbies: Ruined by neckbeards and pick-up artists.

Panama / Boaters: Ruined as obnoxious, weather-inappropriate indoor cosplay.

Boonie hats / Bush hats: Ruined as outdoor NPC/Cabela's hunting gear.

Newsboy / Flat caps: Ruined by try-hard Peaky Blinders vintage LARPers.

Docker / Miki caps: Ruined by modern streetwear/hip-hop crossovers.

Sailor caps: Ruined by maritime and niche leather subcultures.

Skull caps / Beanies: Ruined as ghetto, skater, or winter-only gear.

The global catalogue of hats is officially empty.

Every single shape, brim, fold, and piece of fabric ever invented by mankind has been tagged, claimed, and weaponized by a subculture, a political movement, an internet meme, or a sexual fetish. There is no neutral, un-stigmatized piece of fabric left on earth that a guy in a plain t-shirt and cotton pants can put on his head.

I have a big ass head and maybe I am just fucking ugly too but I have no idea what hat i could use. everything looks terrible on me.
>>
>>18787206
You sound like a bitch and this is completely retarded. None of these subcultures cared about the tradition of the aforementioned hat styles before those styles became associated with them. Wear them how you want and help break those associations or forever be stuck with them and unable to wear a hat because of your own inhibitions.
>>
>>18787206
>baseball caps
>ruined by sports tribalism
kek
>>
>>18787294
you won't break the associations. you wear a police uniform and people will think you're a police officer, where a skull cap and people will think you idolize gang bangers. where a fedora and people will think your gf is anime. that's just the way it is now. every hat is just a costume for a subculture. you can't wear a hat neutrally anymore.

>>18787242
could be you one day.
>>
>>18787206
>When the roofed automobile made hats optional
Eurocucks can barely use cars those days and the only hats you see are those worn by women at summer
>>
>>18787206
you're too preoccupied with social stigmas and affiliations. formal hats are timeless and are still the standard headwear for refined men (with maybe the exception of the top hat)

this mentality breeds conformity to mediocrity. if you're consistent with it then we ought to abandon suits, oxfords, ties, and all other aspects of classic style in favor of comfortable modernism
>>
>>18787338
i can't pull that off, and i doubt you can either. only chads can wear that and it makes them better looking because now they stand out more. non-chads and especially outright incels trying to wear your "headwear for refined men" will end up worse looking because now they stand out more. if you're not chad you might as well just wear the cheapest clothes possible and not even bother washing them. you either look good in everything or you look good in nothing.
>>
>>18787338
Formal hats are so rare that it just comes across as performative and larp if you wear one even if it looks good. Flat caps are about as out there as you can get without looking like you're in a uniform
>>
baseball cap is default American look tho
>>
>>18787636
this. Not even the actual upper class can wear them without looking ridiculous. Poorfag larpers look even worse.
>>
>>18787338
the fit you posted sucks ass
>>
>>18787675
The upper class now wears 1000 dollar hoodies as peak fashion. They have less class than poorfag larpers, just more money.
>>
>>18787338
Don't wear this
>>
>>18787206
Flat caps, newsboys go hard, many uncs still rock them I see them more irl now that I thought about them (baader meinhof )

Any sports ball cap work

Beanies winter hats work

U can prolly rock a bucket hat too

All these are causal enough

>>
>>18787206
only the fedora still has a strong association with anything. panama and other straw, newsboy, and cowboy hats are relatively common. the rest of the hats just seem dated more than anything else.

Let this post be a warning to us all

Hats were from back when being bald because of syphilis was a thing. Wearing a hat didn't make you cool, it made you look like a whore
>>
>>18788426
every man wore a hat, they didn't all have syphilisi retard. look at any picture from that time period, any crowd of people, could be a hundred men in that random photo, all wearing hats.

they're good to determine who are conned idiots who follow the cult of a pedophile

For me, it's the flat cap in winter and the panama hat in summer.
Also the beret but that takes some skill and intentionality to avoid it looking performative and costumey.
>>
>>18788572
>>18788570
Maga caps are very good looking and are real modern fashion, not necessarily maga caps, just any red cap with white text in it, this is not pol board, talk about fashion

you aren't just /fa/ enough
>>
>>18788579
any clothing - especially one as tacky as a bright red baseball cap - with political statements is automatically awful.
>>
>>18788582
I said any white text, it can be like " I am strawberry". But also there is no problem in "make America (or any other countriy name) great again" don't you want your country to be great?
>>
>>18788587
it's still tacky. there's a reason that the best dress sense has no words on it.
>>
>>18787206
I wear a fedora regulary and people tell me they like it. All that shit you posted, it's internet faggot baggage.
>>
>>18788769
straw or felt?
>>
>>18788769
people lie irl cause its easier than telling the truth. and your friends aren't gonna want to hurt your feelings. also if you're a chad you can wear anything and there are no rules, you could fold a triangle hat out of newspaper and it'd look great on you when you're chad. so chads dont count
>>
>>18787206
Older styles of hats have sort of gradually re-entered popular culture and fashion since circa 2005 or 2010 and on. I think famous people like Johnny Depp and the 2000s/2010s hipster scene were initially responsible for that, and hats started to take on a life of their own again after hipster was becoming more normalized and simultaneously fading as its own scene post-2015.
>>
>>18787206
I wear baseball hats / "dad hats" most days. Lots of people in my city wear them in ways that aren't any of the things you described. Beanies are acceptable too in the winter, everybody wears them. Dunno where you're from but that shit is normal in most US cities.

doesn't seem like it
>>
>>18788882
baseball hats look childish though. it's on the level of a t-shirt with a picture on it in terms of class
>>
>>18788901
he’s saying the usa doesn’t have respectable standards of fashion and decency

thats most modern hats, arguably the fedora too but you need a particular style with it
>>

The kind of eurocucks who actually cannot drive cars are generally urban youth and "urban youth", so they're opposed to hats on a cultural level.

Randos aren't going out of their way to grab my attention just to tell me lies about my hat

the plebbit memes are stale and are going away anyway because people are using llms/ai for info instead of searching for discussions on plebbit. it was all just projection anyway, unattractive people making fun of an unattractive person wearing a hat. anyone bringing up these memes in real life is just outing themselves as a plebbitor
>>
>>18789626
>The plebbit memes are going away
Thank God. It's about time. I like to wear all sorts of hats from fedoras and boaters to flatacaps and homburgs. I usually get the most compliments from the younger crowds who haven't grown up exposed to the the garbage spewed there.

I ordered a cowboy hat for the rainy weather, mostly because I find it pragmatic

You don't get rain in your eyes, you don't get it back of your neck either with a proper hat
>>
>>18789995
A baseball cap is already enough to keep water out your eyes and socially adjusted people are just going to wear bucket hats
