Bench strength correlates very well with overall upper body mass. You can arch a lot and cheat the movement but upper arms should at least be parallel at chest not bend.

At my new gym I've not seen a single person do more than 2.5plates. Out of maybe 50 I've seen bench. A couple could do 3 plates at my old gym. I'd say it's 1% of gym goers, maybe 3-5% of gym regulars. Fraction of a percent of general population.

Doing 25+ pull-ups takes a lot of dedication. First, you need to be around 15% body fat or lower, which means 90% of people will be forced to cut and maintain that year-round. And even if you cope with all of that, it will still take you a 1-2 years. For the majority of people it's just unbearably hard.

It depends on bodyweight. Being able to do 25 pull-ups doesn’t mean you’ll have muscle. If you’re like close or above your weight in terms of your height in centimeters, yeah it’s hard because you have fat/muscle. 315 is pretty easy to hit if you bulk a bit then you can lean down and mostly maintain it. It took me about a year when I basically recomped at 195lbs. Now about a year and a half later I’m 181ish and can do 315 for 3-4 reps depending on the day. Just bulk and cut. It’s worth it.

Pull ups really punish high bodyfat and a well rounded physique. I could do 14 pull ups at 170 pounds, at around 180 I could do 15, now at 190 I can do 14. All of my other lifts including dips have went up... But adding mass to your legs is just a direct conference.

This is just a cope. People don’t do pull ups because they’re hard and they’d rather just do a few lat pull downs and call it a day. Incidentally this is also why virtually everyone has fucked up shoulders from treating bench as a primary movement and then treating upper body pulling as a secondary consideration. But the reality is that 25 pull ups is quite achievable if you’re not fat and you actually practice them. Even when I bulked up to 210lbs I could still hit 25 pull ups with good form (all the way down, arms straight at the bottom) no problem.

Hmmm. I don’t think this is true. If I was 170 I would have less muscle. I do weighted pull ups a lot and I think that substantial loss of muscle would actually make things harder for me. Last time I got that light my running became much faster but pull ups felt like shit.

Again, you treat pull ups like this magical thing because you’re bad at them and don’t practice them. If you did them you would realize it’s not as simple or linearly related to pure BW as you make it seem, especially if you aren’t fat.
