One tip I've heard is to leave the pull-up bar up and to get into the habit of doing as many as you can whenever you pass under it, though obviously you don't have to very many. The point is to practice.

This is actually good for a beginner. It gives you something to work with. A lot of people starting out can't even do one and have to build up strength to the point where they can. Once you can do one it is like 2 months then you can do 5x5. Then you just keep going from there.
