Fat guys train their calves every waking hour. You cant compete with fat guy calves
>>
Not everything is a meritocracy. It's not about being "peak T" or "protector" (what does that even mean? is it a type of exercise?) or carrying things around. It's genetic luck. You could naturally have 1000+ ng/dL testosterone. You could ruck until you shit yourself. You could do calf raises to failure multiple times per week. But ultimately, you'll still end up seeing only modest calf size gains because that muscle's size is mostly genetic.
>>
>>77286918
You can. Just put a shit ton of weight into a backpack and never take it off.
>>
Aren’t calves somewhat genetic?
>>
>>77286893
People who complain that their calves aren't growing do their "training" by loading the bar and hopping up and down like rabbits.
>>
>>77287069
Or maybe just climb stairs everyday, will strengthen your heart as well as build your calves and hips
>>
>>77286893
I've trained calves at least 2x every week, 2 exercises each time. Calves are tough to get big. You need volume. I do 5x15 standing Calf Raises and 4x20 on the leg press.

i have literally never trained calves in my entire life yet i calfmog most of the gymbros spamming calf raises
>inb4 fatass
i was underweight my whole life, started gaining weight a few years ago and im at 80kg/180cm now
its mostly genetics, though i have always been walking a lot so i guess that helped
>>
>>77286893
muay thai guys have huge calves. Im guessing its from all the running, jump roping, and generally always being on their toes
>>
>>77287310
Its also the 20 minutes or so a day they spend just kicking. Lifters typically won't do their bodyweight calf raises on one leg for 20 minutes once a week.
>>
I really hate the way calves look when super cut.

>>
>>77286918
Do you need to be fat or just heavy? I'm 220 not fat and walk a lot and it hasn't given me calves
>>
>>77287431
Try hiking
>>
Being reasonably heavy (muscle) for your size and then going on 14+ mile treks, across variable terrain, in BAREFOOT shoes. That's the ticket. My calves have blown up since going barefoot.
I also run in fairly low stack height, zero drop altra running shoes, which is a real calf workout on a 10k run.

If you do try it, I'd advise easing into barefoot stuff with shorter walks to build up strength. If you jump straight into long treks you can fuck yourself up.
>>
Why does everyone ITT treat calf muscles like they're a different kind of muscle? Eat big, lift big, get big results. You don't have to do weird exercises, obscene amounts of cardio or have amazing genetics. Just blast your calves until they scream. Anything else is frivolous. It's a muscle.
>>
>>77286914
you realize that this chimpanzee moves around for most of its life but humans are mostly sedentary? Not only that but the movements they do throughout each day are basically bodyweight fitness, while you walk to you car, walk to the freezer and buy your 2000kcal ice cream, drive home, walk to your couch and eat that ice cream like the fat slob you are.
>>

because its the hardest muscle to grow out of any muscle in your body you absolute dyel.
>>
>>77287577
Mine are pretty big and like I said, all I do is blast them 2x/week. Maybe it's just genetics, or maybe good form, not sure. But I'm not special.

That would explain the big calves then
>>
fat and dyels with large calves just have extra fat on the calves and drainage issues from diabetes so its fluid that produces swelling, coupled with bad blood circulation so blood swells the calf further. So its complete bs
>>
>>77286893
Dads have larger calves from walking while carrying their kid. Over years it adds up. Also fatter on average
>>

Dad here. Most other dads I know gave up carrying their kids as soon as possible. I was the night dawg at preschool pickup because one time I picked both mine up at once - that was maybe 70lbs at the time.
>>
>>77288609
ahahahahahah you retard baka gaijin.
A 3 year old is like 15kg AND moves constantly on your arms. They are awkwardly shaped also.
>>
>>77288630
you are weak, 40kg feels like a feather to me. I curl more than 20 kg like 100 times a week in each arm
>>
the muscles are mostly used to stabalize the foot via the ankle so you cant really isolate it

walk on sandy beaches for big calves
>>
>>77287122
wtf is my problem? I do 3x50 calf raises and I dont feel a fucking thing (body weight only tho).
Cant do one legged ones, too hard.
>>
>>77287481
So? that doesn't give you the muacle and textile strenght to rip apart wood and flesh with ease.
>>
>>77286893
You get calves by walking unless you don't get calves in which case you don't get them
>>
>>77288630
Its still additional load, it’s not like you’re doing 12 reps, you’re doing thousands. It adds up.
>>
>>77288630
brb buying 15kg kid-shaped weights
>>
>>77288639
Depends how much you weigh. If you do 1000 bodyweight calf raises at 130lbs, you're not getting as good a workout as you would if you weighed 200lbs.
There's some powerlifter I once saw who said he does standing calf raises in between sets and gets over 1000 each time but he was like 400lbs so it was meaningful work.
>>
>>77289128
Any reps past 15 doesn’t build muscle
>>
>>77289144
I had no idea. That's crazy how smart your muscles are that they can actually count and send signals to the brain to stop growing. Wow the human body is amazing thanks!
>>
>>77287453
I was a fat fuck for a decade before, but switching to barefoot did wonders for my feet, knees and hips.
Just ordered myself some sandals for hikes this summer.
>>
>>77289144
nta but the point, retard, is that if you can do more than 15 reps you're not lifting enough weight to build muscle. You're just into endurance at that point.
>>
>>77289171
>sandals for hikes
the trails where you live must be pristine, if I used sandals on a hike my feet would get mangled
>>
>>77287411
This, probably just fat. Calf truly mog when you can see the split, if you cant and they don't they just are fat.

To hell with calves, who anterior tibialis mogs?!

My calves measure ~19" bee tee dubs, it's genetic, my dad has fuck huge calves and he does no exercise and isn't fat.

>>

isn't everything somewhat genetic?

when every step is more than your lmao 1 rep max deadlift, you're going to have big calves.

>isn't everything somewhat genetic?
Not literally everything; but *most* traits and diseases have various genetic susceptibility/risk factors with additional environmental influence. Calf size falls into that category where some genetic muscle diseases give you tiny or enormous calves, but a lot of variability is just training/diet.

You'd think even hair color is str8 genezix? Nope. Lots of people change hair colors as chemotherapy side effects, also has to do with dietary metal intakes; but it's heavily genetically influenced in its original color. Stuff like Duchenne muscular dystrophy is really str8 genetics and silicosis is really str8 environmental, but the majority of traits and diseases are some mix of both.
>>
>>77287122
How much do you run?
I have done 3 plate benches and squats but I just spam volume at 225 squat and a 250 deadlift. I've been focusing on running and am not sure to increase these exercises given what my interest in rooning.
Thank you for reading my blog post.
