My stupid dad has never done any serious exercise in his life, never been seriously overweight, needs half his joints replaced anyway and he's in constant pain . My mom has been super healthy and has has been exercising her entire life, needs a hip replaced anyway, but her recovery was insanely fast and she's right back at it. Getting old just sucks in part, and activity including heavy resistance exercise will keep you more resilient as you age. Also, find me literally fucking anybody who regrets being fit, especially when they were young.
I can second rip's theory that squatting can save your knees. Mine used to hurt after runs in high school/college. Now, after squatting for a decade, they're not a factor anymore.
