I'm hitting both free weights and calisthenics + gymnastic rings. Do I even need to add ab-focused exercise at all when they're working hard all the time from every exercise I do?

If your workout involves anything that requires body stability, ab workouts usually aren't necessary.
That's because youe core is engaged.
Things like calisthenics and rock climbing are good examples.
