i dont follow bodybuilding but lately there seems to be some cult around mentzer because he had retarded and unusual ideas
>>

dyels find his ideas attractive because it requires less effort

Also some fags started hating Arnold for being a mensch.

Get in the oven.
>>
>>77303381
i feel like high intensity is good for maintenance or for people who've already plateaud doing high-volume work and now want to push themselves some more

better yet just do moderate volume with high-intensity techniques like cluster sets, rest pause, drop sets, isometrics, etc

>>
High volume only works for calisthenics. Not sure why it be that way but it do
>>
>>77303515
Arnold was scared of Mentzer btw. One time he pissed him off, Mentzer squared up and Arnold tucked tail and backed down
>>
Volume 'works' because it provides more effective reps as a result of fatigue but you can jump start those effective reps without spending ages doing a load of fluff reps.

Empty volume is pointless. Heavy, intense volume is not really possible without gear and/or doing nothing but working out.
So, for natties especially, intensity is king and you can get intensity without junk reps.
Fatigue/activation set followed by low rep high intensity sets with very short rest pauses for a desired number of total reps. If nothing else you can get the same work done in half the time.
However, if you really enjoy spending 2 hours in the gym, by all means do your fluff volume pump workouts. You'll get results either way.
>>
>>77303519
Too bad Mentzer is a dead druggie corpse now
>>
>>77303537
Nonetheless, he is a glorious legend on the tip of everyone's tongue. Studied, respected, imitated by listers worldwide.
What are you?

>>77303550
He's not even close to Arnie in fame. Not even 1% as famous kek
>>
>>77303557
He's indisputably one of the top 10 ever. We don't know the future, for example currently his fame is on an upswing and as Arnold's methods become less respected, Mentzers might have a resurgence or something.
It doesn't matter. He is a global legend, as is Arnold, and you are a Jewish little worm who can only ankle-bite.
>>
>>77303568
i love jews though
>>
>>77303577
I love them too (when they are asphyxiated and cremated)
>>
>>77303568
I bet more than 90% of people going to gym don't even know who Mentzer is unless they're seriously interested in bodybuilding.
Everyone knows who Arnie is even if they never lifted weights
Arnie won, Mentzer lost and is dead from a druggie overdose just like his brother
>>
>>77303583
It doesn't matter, like I said you are a kike worm discussing legendary men. No one cares what you think of them.
>>
>>77303596
It matters for Mentzer since he is a literal rotten skeleton now kek
>>
>>77303611
So will you be, but one will be remembered whereas the other one completely forgotten. And it's not like his fame was all posthumous, either. Unlike you, he had an interesting and dramatic life
>>
>>77303615
Yeah and Arnold is and will be remembered 10000x more than Mentzer kek

if you're natty and not really going to be particularly big anyway why would you torture and cuck yourself with 5-6 hours in the gym (not even counting commuting and such) every week?
>>
>>77303519
>things that happened
>>
>>77303678
It's only a torture if you don't enjoy it. In that case, gym isn't for you. You will quit anyway, it's not sustainable to do something you don't like for the rest of your life.
>>
>>77303678
>torture and cuck yourself
nigga you are lifting weights in a nice air conditioned gym. If you think that's torture you are a sweet delicate little flower.
>>
>>77303705
>>77303706
I've been training in one way or another for more than a half of my life. Lifting isn't particularly fun, it's more of a chore that you're trying to get better at. I'd gladly optimize the returns with the minimal time investment. You can be passionate about lifting, but the mechanical act alone is not really the goal unto itself IMO.
>>
>>77303353
>has done too much lifting
You mean that one week you decided to do an extra set during a gym montage of some gay hypertrophy accessories?
>>
>>77303678
Less muscle
>less to break down
>less time to recover
Same as how upper body and arms and shit recover the fastest. It's really weird that I actually get more out of longer sessions now.

If you step out of the online space and actually look at what high volume training is for the vast majority of people in an actual gym it's just doing set after set of cable curls and tricep pushdowns with 30-60 second rest periods and getting nowhere close to failure. Like the slow-down of their reps is almost 0. I know all of you that have trained at the same gym for years have observed that for most of these people you either stop seeing them cause they presumably gave up or they look the exact same year after year. There are 2 guys in my gym in particular that train like this and I've seen then multiple times per week for 3 years now and they still look completely DYEL and are still doing curls with 15kg dumbbells.

I do 10 sets per week on average per bodypart and every set is taken to 0 RIR. To me that's more challenging, I consistently add weight/reps and I'm in the gym for an hour at most. If other people want to train with 20 sets per week, that's their prerogative and I wish them good gains.
>>
>>77304123
Wasnt mentz whole gimmick created to sell his work out machine thing?
>>
>>77304140
I think his "ideal" programs didn't even use nautilus
>>
>>77304140
Mentzer is just the poster-child for low volume training. A lot of his stuff like forced reps, hitting the muscle once every 2 weeks etc aren't even mainstream ideas anymore and nobody really follows it. In the mind of the short-form content NPC that repeats "all roads lead to mentzer" low volume high intensity = mentzer and that's it.
>>
>>77304123
>curls with 15kg dumbbells
T-that's me and I always reach failure around 8-9th rep on the second set, 6-7th rep on the third set, etc.
Should I just do 2-3 reps with 25kg instead?
>>
>>77304230
You won't get a single good rep with 25kg much less 2-3, it's way beyond your strength level. It's normal to get less reps on your second set than your first and less on your third than your second. That's actually a good thing because it means you're pushing. When you see people say they do 3x10 or whatever it means they are most likely sandbagging.

As for what you should do, 6-10 is a perfectly fine rep range even for curls. You should use a progression system like double dynamic progression (it's very simple, look it up) and of course track your reps/weight session to session. If you are still unable to progress by adding more weight or reps then the reason is almost certainly external to the gym ie you aren't eating enough or aren't getting good enough sleep.
>>
>>77304241
I see, thanks bro
>>
>>77303518
>high volume only works for [this resistance training] but not for [that resistance training].
>>
>>77304123
This. The vast, vast majority of people don’t need to do more volume. They don’t need to go in the gym more often for longer. They need to put effort in, stick to the basics and get them right

People cannot get their heads around this and so nearly everyone falls into the trap of thinking that if they do something more often they’ll see an improvement. Weight training doesn’t work like that
>>
i love the gym ergo i love going insanely high volume, like 10 sets of 80%1rm for 5-6 reps
Non-religious meditation is gay and retarded unless it's active like sewing, walking, clay making... For me it's lifting
I dont like the environment or the people but i love resting between sets picking a song to get ready for more self-destruction of joints and tendons
>>
>>77303345
>just do 100 sets of 10 reps at 5% of 1RM itll make you grow cuz volume is king
>>
>>77303363
>>Mentzer
>Died like a bitch a long time ago
Of a genetic heart condition likely as a consequence of past steroid use
>>Arnie
>Alive and kicking ass
Literally had open heart surgery due to his past steroid use. He only had more money than Mentzer. Still got 100% of his from roids.
>>
>>77304140
Mentzer preferred specific machines like the nautilus pull over and the nautilus lateral raise. These two he allowed for dumbbell pullover, cable pullover, lateral raise, and BTNP as alternatives. Most of what he was recommending to do otherwise was with dumbbells, barbells, and cable machines. His favorite exercise for chest was dips. The nautilus machines were not required.

That being said, Mentzer and Nautilus were geared towards supplying specialized machines to commercial gyms and getting people to using them as effective options for the average person to use as part of their training. Pretty much the status quo for the last 40 years with most gyms. Just more brands now. It's impossible to go into a bodybuilding gym and not find some variant of a nautilus copy or hammer strength copy. Most people use machines at least in some capacity because they work.

Since Arnold is always brought up, I'll bring him up too. What Mentzer was doing was no worse than what Arnold was doing. Arnold was shilling Weider's barbells and other home gym equipment. Arnold was purposely put on covers because with his chest and biceps Weider figured that's what would get the young men in high school to buy his magazines to try to learn how to look like that and buy the equipment and supplements Weider's adds claimed got Arnold his physique. Arnold probably shilled far more for Weider than Mentzer ever did for Nautilus. The IFBB was always about selling products. Bodybuilding itself has always been secondary in that organization.
>>
>tfw gym got nautilus machines but the only upper body one is the lat pulldown made for 5'6'' manlets
Can't even fully extend my arms on it. Shit sucks cause all our other machines are precor which are ass
>>

The only thing that makes muscle grow is intensity plus some time under tension (20 to 40 seconds). That's why 1 rep maxing things does nothing like with dead lifters, and why you can build legs with cardio when you up the intensity. Putting a bike on max intensity is just as good as any volume or strength routine. All the evidence is there.
>>
>>77305165
>only thing that makes muscle grow is intensity
>That's why 1 rep maxing things does nothing
Kek does anyone in this board even lift anymore ?
>>
Anything will work on steroids.

alive and sober
>>
>>77305196
Did you read the whole thing retard?
>>
>>77304852
Tbf the mentzoid approach makes sense to me, his ideal routine is good (leg day heavy albeit but mentzer believed those hard-ass workouts lent to systemic growth and myostatin suppression) but even his old ex-trainer for heavy duty had to modify it to have some burn down supersets after machine work.
>>
>>77303345
it's a lot more about time spent than laziness for me
>>
>>77306658
Holy fuck pic rel program is horrible. 3 fucking reps on the incline press followed by chest flies? You will literally detrain in a month. Just do 2 sets 6-8 reps to failure or 1rir and don’t do supersets.
>>
>>77305382
So you dont lift and have no clue what you're talking about ok
>>
>>77303345
Based
This is a Bromley board
>>
>>77304123
Youre talking about endurance training, not high-volume training.

I take my sets to failure with 2 minute rest in between. 4-6 sets per workout. WITH 2 sets of warmups.

What you're talking about is wetback superset shit.
>>
>>77304803
Non religious meditation is immensely powerful and it's hard to understand unless you have experienced it for real, I can now be like doing stuff but it feels like I'm viewing myself in my minds eye and im actually a being outside of that meditating and sitting because my breath doesn't waiver with reality and creates a anchor
>>
>>77308033
Nope it's gay and you're just having a bad drug trip
>>
>>77303369
there's always a few fads floating around in the online weight training sphere, mentzermaxxing just seems to be the latest. ironically, i know literally no one who is doing it. or more accurately, i've never seen before/after pics of someone on the mentzer method.

it's also worth noting that the science we have into the subject is pretty conclusive about more volume being superior for hypertrophy (not strength).
