Should I try out Muay Thai?

Have previously done BJJ (also considering going back) and miss the group training aspect. Just worried some retard will give me brain damage hard sparring
>>

Yeah, try it out. It's very fun.
Don't even worry about brain damage, it's not gonna happen.
Personally it's probably the most fun activity I've ever done.
>>
>>77307190
Dont worry about it they're even more full of nerds and meek people than lifting gyms, anyone that's not a competitor is pussy about sparing and will be more scared than you are until you show them you're not an insecure babboon
>>
>>77307208
Thanks bro, been reading some fear mongering bullshit of people saying any kind of sport causes CTE. Going to call the gym in my town this week.
>>

Training muay thai in thailand is based. Anywhere else it's gay af. You'll be holding pads, class is extremely slow paced, overpriced, full of noobs and most likely taught by a Rex Kwan Do.
>>
>>77307232
Well what should I do instead brah

inb4 move across the world to pursue a hobby lol
>>
>>77307232
Thais scam tourists unless they're pros nothing "based" about it
>>
>>77307250
Yeah and so does every mcdojo in the West larping as a boxing/kickboxing/mma gym that charges $200/month as well. What's your point buddy? All I'm saying is you'll get more for your money by training in Thailand. OP simply asked if it was worth trying out Muay Thai and I simply gave him advice based on what I have personally experienced. Go to Thailand for 3 months, learn Muay Thai, eat delicious food, fuck trannies.
>>
>>77307256
My local gym is a nonprofit, £20 a month. Might be a mcdojo but can't really call that a scam

The food and trannies part does sound good though

>I either get scammed every step of the road in a foreign shithole or in mine while spending less, it's this extreme or that
You're extremely mentally deficient and the perfect candidate for thai charlatans.

Yep.

You won't get CTE doing Muay Thai. You can quite literally beat someone without throwing a single head strike if you wanted to.

Most sparring is light paced but I guess if you're in the west its more like medium paced sparring anyways. If the gym gate-keeps you from sparring or not paying attention to talented people outside of their own clique its probably not worth the time.

If you're a beginner in Thailand, its more like a glorified daycare center and they just scam you. Unless you have fundamentals or pay for private coaching its not really worth it ever for group classes.

When I took Muay Thai classes they said we wouldn't spar for at least a year
>>

>brain damage
nonsense
>knee damage
real shit

I want to learn thai kickboxing but i dont want to be trained by like a western white guy
I want to be trained by an actual Thai, so should i got to Thailand for it?
Related but i heard if you go to japan to train martial arts some guy said that some dodgy gyms will put you in hospital sparring and take all your money lol
>>
>>77307190
Muay thai is fun stop being a pussy the only hard part is finding a good gym thats not just open only to classes that shit is annoying
>>
>>77307263
The US sucks ass for cheap fight gyms was a lot cheaper in thailand Japan or China and you could use the gym facilities if you weren't doing a class. So I could do bag work etc
Here in the USA its fucking 140-200 a month and open gym hours are limited as fuck and if you are not doing a class during the other times you cant use the equipment nobody is using gay as fuck and sparring can only be done on certain days
>>
>>77307215
Unless you go to fight, youre never going to do sparring at above maybe like 70%. Most trainers will advise not to do fighting for a long time, theyre not like boxing trainers who try to throw everyone in for the boxing and BBQ nights they do all the time.

I had the best one for a while. A professor of bj and trained in Muey Thai did the teaching, the gym he was renting out of was legit. It was a bunch of old crusty equipment piled into a small space and ran by a local body building coach legend. Had his ripped clients photos all over his walls with their signature and a thank you.

>tfw the muay thai gyms are $250/month where i live
>>
>>77307775
legit thai kickboxing scores points for taking hits like a man instead of blocking or dodging because le tradition. The white guy is probably more interested in winning in mma, not my
>>
>>77307811
Nice
>>77307820
Honestly just thought about starting a muay thai club and have sessions at a local rec center and buy some portable mats or see if they have any just run it off donations etc maybe train to do local competitions and tournaments
>>
>>77307795
Martial arts in my area have always been pretty cheap apart from recent MMA and BJJ places opening
>>
>>77307190
Yeah dude just get kicked in your literal eyeball by a Lanklet trying to massage his ego and lose your eyeball forever

Clever idea my guy
