>>77310025Yes, to some degree. If all you did was squat patterns your whole lifting career (squats, leg press, etc) and you measured your calves day 1 and 5 years in they would have undoubtedly grown. However, I will give you a golden piece of advice: If a muscle is involved but not the prime mover (quads in a hack squat being the prime mover, glutes adductors and calves all secondary and likely recruited in that order) do not expect that lift to provide a meaningful stimulus. If you want to get the absolute best growth for a muscle you must isolate. What you choose to isolate will be goal dependent. If you want to maximize arm development would you rely solely on bench press and rows? no. I think the same is true for muscles like calves, forearms, traps, etc.
>>77310025Not really. All they do is stabilize during squats.
>>77310061Maybe you haven't noticed but all boards are spammed because free discussion isn't allowed online anymore.

>>77310347People should be doing eccentric loading for calves regardless to help increase ankle mobility and strengthen the achilles tendon.

I just started lifting, focusing on heavy squats one day a week, over this last winter. I already had pretty thick calfs from running, hiking, and being a moderately fat dad who carries heavy shit all the time. I did see solid calf growth over the winter, but I was also using the leg press machine to do weighted calf raises. My anecdotal evidence says squats are good for calves and you should do them.
