Advice for new runners:
- Build up speed and mileage SLOOOOOWLY (start with 15 minutes, increase mileage at most 10% per week);
- It will feel like you're going slow, you are; don't worry about setting good times for a couple of months;
- If you start to feel pain anywhere, stop and rest;
- Don't try to copy what pros are doing. Do what feels natural; and
- Once you can comfortably roon 6 miles/10km, start thinking about a goal in terms of race distance and time, and look for a training plan for that goal (see below for suggested plans).

No runner girls op pic? lame
New shoes felt alright, but they need to break in. Still some pain in my leg after about 2.5 mi. So, not recovered yet.
Saw 1 heron perched in a tree and 17 buns (but 5 were dupes I think).

When does it get easier? Right now if I jog on the treadmill at 9km/h I can last about 5-6 minutes before being wiped. I can walk at 7 for 30+ mins (legs were burning by the end) but the second it turns into a jog it destroys me.
>inb4 why not run outside
Because I like how the treadmill kinda forces me to keep a constant pace or else I'll fall

>When does it get easier?
On my 4th week of C25K today after being sedentary for a good decade. And it feels significantly easier to breathe compared to the start, legs feel fine as well.

Also I made the big mistake of being overzealous and "checking how long I can last" after finishing my week 2 session and ran home @ 10km/h for 15 minutes and fucked up my knees for almost two weeks. Don't be me!! Take it easy but consistently.
Btw why is everyone in this general always so horny?
>>
i smile whenever i run fast and it's so embarrassing when people stare at me how do i make running not fun

How many pair of shoes do you have? I see a lot of memes about people having 5+ pairs. I have 2, both are "daily trainers".

Six pairs.

>>
Do you ever wonder what it feels like to be fat? Must be horrendous. 70kg is the heaviest I've ever been and when I run at that weight it is noticeable more difficult than my usual 68kg weight.
Losing 1kg must be the equivalent of a month's good training.
>>
>>77321889
I have about 8 pairs. Not because I autistically select different shoes for every scenario, I just grab a new pair whenever a see a good shoe with 50% discount. They'll all get used up eventually.
Really 2 pairs is enough, a slow plodder pair for easy runs and a faster shoe for tempos and workouts.
>>
>>77322362
what do you wear when you have a 30km+ long run with a big section at marathon pace? most tempo shoes are lousy for that

what about for racing? marathon distance?

trails?
>>
>>77321549
oo was it steamy? love a good shit when running, feels amazing afterwards
>>
>>77322782
nah man people have gone soft and reliant on super shoes. you can run marathon pace in a chunky ass pair of vomeros
>>
>>77321889
2x novablast
2x rebel 4 (mistake)
1x aeroglide
1x evo sl
1x superblast
1x escalante
1x lone peak
1x barefoot shoe
>>
>>77322352
nigga 1kg is a shit and piss and some sweat. But yeah I guess depending on where on your body you carry weight it could probably be like the difference between hokas and vaporfly. but also i gained 2 kg from running and that doesn't seem to affect my performance. like weight gained in muscle carries itself.
>>
>>77322352
because you are weak
>>
>>77323093
It's still 1kg of useless fat. It's only a very small difference but it's enough to notice it. Without standing on a scales I can tell I've put on that 1kg just from how the running feels. Got me wondering what it feels like to have 10kg extra fat
>>
>>77322805
sure
but whatever pace you can run in a vomero plus, you can run a faster pace in a carbon plated race shoe. simple as.

why not get a better race time? are you too poor to spend a few hundred on shoes?
>>
>>77323256
obviously you wear the race shoes in the race. we're talking about a training run. and part of the problem is attention seeking cunts wanting to show off on strava so they wear the race shoes every training run. no need for it
>>
>>77323263
so you have three pairs of shoes?

cause i’m pretty sure you’re the one who said you only need two pairs of shoes

and what about trails?

that’s at least four pairs
>>
>>77323272
bruh the same post I said I have 8 pairs
that has nothing to do with anything
>>
>>77323263
why does this upset you?
>>
>>77323315
do what you want. just making a point it's not necessary
I'll be wearing my carbons in training tomorrow for a fast session
>>
ran a 19:30 2 mile
I think I'm ready for the big leagues, heh.....
>>
I have one pair of shoes that I use for both everyday wear and running. I really should get a second pair just for running, these ones are almost 6 months old of everyday use.
>>77323493
Better than a 24 minute 2 mile.
>>
I finally finished my first half marathon. Been following Hal Higdon's novice 1 program. It wasn't an official race, just me running by my own so no aid stations. Managed to finish in 1:59:11, but despite the time I don't feel good at all about the run. The first half went pretty well with a good pace but in the second half I crashed hard and basically had to limp over the "finish line".

I was hoping to start training for a marathon in autumn, but with how poorly this half marathon went I'm not sure I'm anywhere near ready to start training for a marathon.
>>
>>77323714
Did you fuel during the run?
>>
>>77323714
you are babycakes
>>
>>77323725
I did. Although by kilometer 11 I was struggling to get the fuel into me.
>>
>>77323725

>>
>>77323784
If you followed the training plan correctly it may have just been an off day. I'd keep training for the full, just have a,b&c goal times, even big fats finish marathons (mostly walking albeit) but if your goal is just to finish, its certainly doable.
>>
>>77323714
I ran my first marathon last fall. In June I ran a 2:01 HM but by October I was able to run a sub 3:45 full. It’s certainly doable if you put in the effort. My best advice would be to find a run club that has a marathon program.

Also don’t underestimate the power of a formal event vs running on your own. The crowds and the competitors get your adrenaline pumping.
>>
>>77323994
wow thats a big improvement
>>
I ran for two years. I loved it, one of my favorite exercise all time. But in the final analysis of being a running these years I:
>actually gained weight
>fucked up calf and ankle
I am not just walking for two hours a day after lifting and Im losing a ton of weight and I have no pain.
>>
>>77324035
Gaining and losing weight are optical illusions you've gotta monitor your body fat
>>
>>77323784
what was your fueling strategy?
i have 2x 250ml flasks, each with 50g of carbs, I start drinking at like 45 mins and just sip as I go, usually done them both by 1.5 hrs in, even if my run is over 2 hours I feel good by the time I'm home

Thanks whoever brought up the existence of gnats in a previous thread. Now I know exactly what those fuckers are called because they keep splashing into my eyelids and up my nose/mouth. I come home with black specks in my eyes, no wonder I kept blinking during the last run.
Sounds like some ligma tier disease but it's just little fuckers in the air. FUCK GNATS. THIS IS NOT A MEME.
>>
I have begun to to run in zone 2 for 30 minutes a day, what else should i do for general fitness? maybe increase it to 45 minutes or more? do some zone 4/5 sprints or something?
>>
>>77325099
better to run for an hour than two half hours probably. Once you're ready to do it of course. Don't be obsessed with zones, but yeah vary the speeds. Obviously shorter days are more suitable for trying a bit faster or a few faster bits.
>>
>>77325099
>what else should i do for general fitness?
stop obsessing about zones
