I can't be bothered to record every single set and exercise, so I just press start and stop during gym sessions so it just records one long session. But it's useful to track time for rest between sets and I usually leave my phone in the locker so I'm not glued to the screen even in the gym.

No.Technically tracking your weekly Zone 1 activity is a good metric, but its useless if you already are doing SOME exercise.Similarly the sleep tracking on some of the high end is decent, but you still need to know what normal and good sleep is, and then be able to read and decipter the graphs if you want to test.

>>77331006I have a Garmin Forerunner 265S. It's basically the best value/money (especially since I bought it with like 70€ off on Black Friday). Things I like about it:- Tracks my calorie expenditure. I think it overestimates it, but not by as much as you'd expect; you can get a really decent estimate if you track your macros obsessively for like a month and cross match. In my case, if I'm on a cut, my rule is that the actual expenditure is ~75% of what the watch tells me.- They help track your sets/reps at the gym. It auto-detects reps and the exercise you're doing but I find those don't work very well so I turned off the automatic features and input it myself after every set.- Really helpful for keeping track of your rest times.- HR monitor is a bit hit-or-miss sometimes but it's correct more often than I thought (I cross matched by taking my pulse manually via my carotid). For what it's worth, I'm one of those people with a weak wrist pulse. Also tells you your HR zones.- If you also use it for cycling, it tracks your routes with a little map. It's cute, I like it. Requires being paired to your phone.- The app has badges/achievements. I don't care about them much but they're cute.- The sleep tracker is cool.- Has regular watch features: stopwatch, alarms, timers.- Also has a thing where it lets you save GPS coordinates of wherever you are, as well as a barometer/altimeter/etc. Weather forecast + incoming storm detection. Cyclingfag stuff.- Also counts steps.- Oh, it also lets you track your gear. I have my bike registered on the app so whenever I go for a ride it tallies up my km and logs it under my bike. It's fun to see how many km I've done on it over time.Overall I'm happier with it than I expected. I'd buy it again if it broke. I'm also a gay man by the way.

My vivoactive 5 has a super bright OLED and a touch screen, so it gets a bit annoying at night. my experience with garmin is that they're very unreliable with data they provide to the point I don't want to use them anymore. for example they're happy to show you stale weather data on the watch face if they failed to sync so you can never trust what's there. the HR algos are jeet tier, for example with certain activities like treadmill they have hard coded cap on hr, if you go above they just slice that in half. same thing happens when you don't start any activity, the watch thinks your high hr on a random walk is a fluke so it displays half of it. all of this is unacceptable for an autist like me. what a shame they fucked up a good hardware with poor programming

for non-cardio fitness not terribly sleep tracking is a game changer though
I have an apple watch, most of the fitness value comes from the sleep tracking, but I also use it to measure my TDEE so I can get my calories right on workout and rest days.I run a linear regression on my weight measurements and they're always in good agreement with my caloric intake, so it must be pretty accurate.
Garmin instinct 2 is cheap and does sleep tracking, heart rate, has a timer and a bunch of other gay shit I dont use. Use timer between sets, track heart rate on the treadmill, track sleep and HRV each morning. Stays charged forever because its not some queer smart screen crap. Best smartwatch.
