Is it cringe to go lifting with you mom? My mom is old and wants to get fitter, but she’s afraid to go to the gym alone. I go to the gym a lot so I’ve been thinking that I could just bring her with me. I can explain all the machines keep an eye on her and such. I’m afraid I will look like Norman Bates.

Educate yourself on the basic barbell lifts and basic novice linear progression and both you and your mom should start together, in the squat rack, with the basic lifts, Get stronger together. I think it’s fine but I don’t think resistance training is the best thing for older women. They’d be better off cultivating active hobbies they’ll do forever like walking, gardening, etc.
