Corporate cog here. I spend most of my workday sitting, and even when I try to work out afterward, it still feels like I haven’t moved enough. My fuck ass desk job doesn't allow standing desks, much less treadmills. The most I have is two 15 minute breaks to walk around outside. I’m curious what other people do to stay active and avoid gaining weight or feeling stiff and sluggish. What has actually been realistic and sustainable for you in terms of getting/staying /fit/ while being basically forced to sit at a desk for 8hrs 5 days a week. Would like to hear from anyone who can relate and has found a good balance.
>>77355168just take a walk to work or hop on your bike desu. It's literally that simple
>>77355180I'm an American. the commute is way too long and requires the highway. If I was from whatever eurofag country you are in, things would be peaches and cream, but it is in fact not that simple here
>>77355168sorry bro but youre fucked if they wont let you move around but you can find bullshit reasons to move around if you can seriously these kind of jobs are basically a promise youll have back and shoulder problems soon, then obesity, getting the right chair is important but so is doing anti-sitting exercises. avoid heavy barbell movements because the'yre the worst thing you can possibly do if you have "chair back" do some mobility drills every morning, mix it with regular bodybuilding workouts, keep your hip flexors and butt muscles turned on and loose face pulls, back flyes, and chest flyes will also be your friend to help with computer neck and floating shoulder issues
>>77355191thanks for the tips
I wake up an go gym at 5am start at 7 or if I'm working 9-5 I go gym at 6
>>77355189leave your car somewhere an hour's walk from your office and finish the journey on foot?so glad I'm british and don't need to own a goymobile.
>>77355168I go for 30 min run in the morning and lift or walk in the evening. Splitting up your exercise throughout the day if possible feels much better than 1 big session. I don't get any breaks at work but I still try to get up every hr to use the bathroom or whatever even if I don't really need to go just because it feels bad to be sitting so much
>>77355168Im lucky to work from home but have kinda ditched the standing thing as it hinders my productivity. What I do is walk my dog for 20 mins before I start, 20-30 mins at lunch, then I go to the gym right after work and either get more steps on the treadmill or go for more walks with the dog. I like to aim for 7-10k steps minimum a day. I find it usually offsets the sitting for the most part. I think since youre in the office, id try to get more steps in before you go to work, then use one or two of your breaks to walk around, and try to get some micro walks in throughout the day.
>>77355168>and even when I try to work out afterward, it still feels like I haven’t moved enough. What does that even mean? So you arent even trying to move at all despite saying how you want to move more?
>>77355168There's some other good advice in the thread but I might add doing isometrics at your desk, like holding an air chair position just barely above your real chair or adapting some of the techniques from pic related. You can also just move around in your chair a bit for light cardio, e.g. shaking your legs with mini alternating calf raises as if simulating running. I would also consider using your walking breaks more intensely and finding more excuses to walk during work time.
get yourself a good chair, they're expensive but worth it
>>77355168I've been a NEET for over a decade and do much more than 8hrs/5day a week of sitting. I have no problems because I go to the gym regularly and if I have to do something out I take a walk.
Trust me i do hybrid work, editing on weekdays and filming on the weekends, and i do 12h filming days sat and sunday and it's literally the worst goblin gains you can imagine. I can't even go lift on Monday from the fatigue
>>77355168>two 15 minute breaksThat's outrageous I take an hour for lunch and when it's nice I walk up the hill to eat in the parkPretty sure I'm only supposed to get 30mins but heyI also arrived at 9am and leave at 4pm so really I do 6 hours of workThe benefits of being in a tiny satellite office and your boss being on another continent I guess
>>77355168My daily commute is 2 hours. I sit at the desk for 9 hours and usually skip breaks cause I’m too busy. Then I come home and work out for an hour and go for a run for 30min. I make sure I don’t eat too much during work.Been doing this for 18 years now.
>>77356273wow your life sucks bro ever though of moving closer to work? you waste 20 hours a week just driving man
