Anyone done the surgery to get their deviated septum fixed? I've been mouth breathing more lately I'm thinking about biting the bullet and say fuck it get the surgery done. My airway is pretty narrow. I'm on nasal sprays but they dont help much at the moment
>>77359847yes I've done it, what do you want to knowmine was deviated so badly that when I breathed in all I could through the nose only one nostril would close in on itself
>>77359847Yes, about 10 years ago. Now Im gonna do a full nosejob + conchoplasty. You prolly have the latter, get the tomography done
If its bad enough, it will only get you close to the goal. But the effect is still very decent. As other anon said >>77359984You might also want to do some of the oropharyngeal exercises, but its also a confusing mess because 95% focus on the tongue, and not the area around the rear palette or the larynx. And its even more confusing because you might want to do some of them focused on TMDJ, such as lateral single side bite raises
>>77359847I've been wearing glasses since I was 4, thick ass fucking glasses since my vision is shit, longsihted, so my nose looks like shit and is probably deformed. I use pure fucking willpower to get through everything, be it less than optimal breathing or nose jokes from the lads. Essentially playing life at hard more
>>77359924At what age did you have the procedure done? I've brought it up with my gp and she mentioned that it's generally not very effective for adults.I can't sleep on my back because I inevitably start breathing through my mouth and wake up choking.
>>77360338not the same anon but i had it done when i was 22. massive massive improvement in quality of life for me. it was mildly sore for about two weeks, and the steroids they gave me for recovery gave me a horrible reaction which isn't likely for you. the front of the nose had no feeling since the surgery destroys/damages nerve endings and i didn't regain feeling in the tip of the nose for about a year. if you can get it done you should.
>>77360049you can get thin lenses and a weight-less eyeframe like the lindberg air titanium.. no eyewear seller would put thick ass lenses on a lindberg.
>>7736033828 or 29 for me it was effective. had to sleep with nasal strips and tape to be able to sleep on my back. but I also had conchoplasty prior, however it did not feel effective at all on its own.
>>77359847i constantly sound like im struggling to breathe i want to get it done too
>>77359847A new, fresh pillow helped much against blocked nose
>>77359847Getting mine tomorrow morning actually lol. Septoplasty and turbinate reduction.
>>77360560>>77360985Not OP but had deviated septum since forever and just found out a few years ago at like 35+ (i never had another nose to know this isn't normal). How much does it cost? I heard the recovery time is hell and you do kinda badly during it?
>>77359847yes, when i was 16. why do you want to continuously struggle with breathing? it's a nobrainer surgery, don't be retarded. >>77362152recovery isn't fun. they seal off your nose by cramming a tampon into it. you'll only breathe through your mouth for a week or two (or however long the doctors deem necessary). eating and especially drinking will be uncomfortable. expect some nosebleeds too. just generally unpleasant.
>>77362077Having mine done tomorrow for both. Weird I'm seeing this thread.
worthyou will bleed non stop for 3 days though and wake up to it draining down your throat
>>77359847wtf it's still crooked
>>77359847My nose had to be broken to facilitate a sinus puncture surgery, as a side effect of the surgery my septum was fixed The next 2 weeks are litoral hell, every face motion resulted in pain and blood mucus pouring out
>>77359847How do I tell if I have a deviated septum? I do snore is that enough to have a deviated septum?
>>77359847YesIt's not permanent THOUGHMine was done 10 years ago when I was 16 (it was fully blocked hence why it was allowed on an underage teen), my nose is almost fully functional, I only struggle to breath when I lay on my right side on the bed
>>77363773Go to the doctor
>>77362077>>77363365report here when you guys got it done.
>>77363773One nostril constantly clogged, but no mucus
>>77362152recovery was about a week and it wasn't "hell" as much as purely annoying. I think I took out the tampons after one or a few days, cant remember. Having that in was the absolutely worst part. After that I had the plastic stent left for a week I think. Getting that out was heavenly. No pain.My surgery was "free" being a europoor
>>77363822don't get your hopes up lol. it's full anasthesia and they hook you up with pain meds after. these guys will be vegetables for a few days.
>>77362152i was 20 when i had it done over a decade ago and at the time was heavily medicated for anxiety (benzos) so i apologize but i don't know or remember certain details. i have no idea how much it cost since it was under my mom's insurance (i'm a burger). all i remember is my nose was sore as shit for about two weeks, and the steroids they gave me made my whole face and upper chest swell and go red from a bad reaction. i definitely didn't have blood and puss/mucus draining like another anons experience. it was just really sore with a dull throbbing pain.
>>77363822Yeah I'll report back. Hopefully the thread will still be up.
>>77360560Did it affect your sense of smell?
>>77359847I had one done 5yrs ago.Went from one blocked nostrel to one 75% blocked nostrel. So it was an improvement, but I still didn't get 100% of my nose back. After 5yrs it regressed and I'm down to one clear and one 50% blocked.Cost me $900 after insurance.Had to take 3 days off work.
>>77359847Yes.No effect. I think the doctor diagnosed me and did the surgery just to get paid.
>>77360338>I've brought it up with my gp and she mentioned that it's generally not very effective for adultsPretty safe bet you're from the UK if they're spouting bollocks like this. Our docs will do anything to "save money"
Jujimufu just did a video on this. Said it was the best thing he's ever done. My one side is completely fucked so nothing helps at all but I've been getting by all my life with it like that. Definitely been considering it more the last few years
Just had it done. Bleeding and sneezing like a motherfucker
>>77364612Nah, I'm from other end of Europe. We call them "family doctors" here.
>>77359847Broke my nose as a kid and had a deviated septum for years after. I had two septoplasties done, one didn’t do anything and my septum went back to being deviated, the other one was a revision and barely made an improvement. Considering going for a rhinoplasty + septoplasty combo and seeing if reshaping my nose will make me be able to breathe normally again.
>>77363822I've reported back here >>77364912Had something to eat now, back home, no pain so far. Quick procedure. Would recommend. Cost me £0 through NHS, had reduced turbinates (bilateral) and septoplasty. Fingers crossed I get a good result.
>>77359847i wanted to get it but it's at LEAST 5k here in shithole brazil, i can't afford that. guess i'll just make do with one of those magnetic nose strips to open up my nostrils
>>77359847I swear to god synchronicity is real man. I just had my post op appointment yesterday for my septoplasty, Im officially a week and a day since my surgery and now I see a /fit/ thread about it. For the record I got the septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and repair of bilateral nasal valve. I can answer any questions you guys have but for now I'll list some thoughts about my experience>Everything total cost 160 dollars for me personally (aetna insurance)>Recovery was rough this past week, bleeding kept going for like 5 days>Blood clots suck, i had a bunch of slug sized clots that block everything>I was prescribed hydrocodone but didnt need it>My post op appointment is where they finally removed the silicone inserts>Without the inserts, I'm breathing pretty well, i went for a run today and worked out, my breathing performance felt in line if not slightly better than with my usual fucked up septum>My breathing should only get better in the coming weeks when swelling reduces>Do your saline rinses>Prepare for how your going to handle sleep, this is the single worst part about recovery>Use a shit ton of lip balm or Vaseline before bed>Sleep with a humidifer right next to you, you will only be able to breath through your mouth for pretty much the entire weekAgain, Im only a week out of my surgery but if you guys have any other questions please ask. Im excited for my breathing to get better and better in the coming weeks
