Had a very slight popping sensation in my lower back on the last rep of a dropset on a squat machine. Did 250kg for 3 reps without issue, then 225kg for 3, then 200kg for 3, but on the last set I went particularly deep and it was on the very last rep right at the bottom that I felt it. I finished the rep just fine but I immediately stopped, packed up and went home.

There was no pain as such, I was able to walk home just fine, but it did feel weird and quite tight afterwards. I put all my weights away but felt really awkward bending down (not painful as such, just felt strange and tight).

How badly have I fucked up? I'm absolutely terrified right now.

PIC RELATED: The exact machine I used

niggas still be squatting and deadlifting in big 26? lmao
>>
>>77375027
It ok bro, no pain no gain
>>
>>77375039
>>77375056
please stop joking guys im terrified, this is no laughing matter

Put heat on it for now. See if that helps with the tightness. Take it easy for a bit to make sure you dont further aggravate it. May want to take at least a week off squats and when you do get back to them ease into them, light weight, perfect form. Take this as a chance to really perfect your form at lighter weight. Don't ignore Croms warnings.

>>77375129
things it could have been
>tendon or ligament shifting
>mild muscle or fascial strain
>spinal ligament or facet joint movement.

And while I think this anon was probably trolling, he's actually right and axial loading of the spine while lifting heavy is utterly fucking retarded. I've never understood it. Like, I've worked a lot of construction, dealt with OSHA a shit ton. If you got caught on camera lifting ANYTHING in the same fashion as a squat or DL, prior to a workers comp claim connected to a back injury, it's getting denied. And if you appealed it to civil claims they have spinal health experts who will happily come in and explain why that's fucking stupid and why so many different safety agencies explicitly tell you not to lift shit like that. Only now are people in the fitness community beginning to shake off the retarded powershitter spell put over them. If you're not in comps that use those lifts, training like that is dumb.

I was hoping it would just be a muscle strain but do you think that could be consistent with the popping sensation? Why would it pop like that if it's just the muscle?
>>
>>77375189
Take a week off from squatting if it doesn't hurt your probably fine.
>>
>>77375189
>Why would it pop like that if it's just the muscle?
A muscle or fascial strain can feel like a pop when tight tissue suddenly stretches, shifts, or releases. Fascia may briefly stick then glide, a tendon may snap over a bone, or a nearby joint may crack at the same moment.

Go light or and do nothing crazy for a week or two, but no pain no sciatica and tingling are the best signs.

Ok thanks. What do you think it was that caused it? I find it strange that the much heavier weights were absolutely fine and the first two reps of 200 were also fine despite being just as deep

I hate this machine. It puts the same amount of stress on your lower back as a normal squat so what's the fucking point?
>>
>>77375027
youre not supposed to go heavy on these type of machines stupid fuck
these are for bodybuilders not powerlifting fat retards
>>
>>77375504
In my case I use it because you lean back in to the weight so it takes the pressure off of your knees. Which is ideal for me as I get bad knee pain from squatting and leg press thanks to years of going way too heavy.
>>
>>77375027
If it was something to be worried about you would definitely know by now, in fact you would have likely known about it immediately.
>>
>>77375734
this. youve probably just strained a muscle. the fact that it took place on the last rep as you hit failure on a dropset would support that notion as opposed to it being anything spinal-related.

wait until tomorrow and over the next few days to see if you get any pain and how it develops. if it's serious pain and/or doesn't go away then maybe get an x-ray just to be safe.

be careful in future. it's very ill-advised to do heavy dropsets on things like squats for precisely this reason.

You should go to the doctor and see if you snapped your shit.
>>
>>77376636
Can't do that because I live in Britain which has a third world healthcare system

Also a major update on this, I woke up this morning and had moderate pain in my lower back that has mostly gone away after getting up and moving around.
>>
>>77375027
niggas strap themselves into these jigsaw ass contraptions then wonder why they get injured.
your body knows how to pick up heavy things, not this trash. do a deadlift, or clean to front squat. no belt no straps no wraps. hell, do it from a deficit. if you can't handle it lower the weight.
>>
>>77376732
I mean, something like this will actually put much less strain on your lower back than a barbell squat
>>
Just an update on this, I woke up this morning with some pain and tightness in my lower back (hard to tell whether it felt spinal or muscular), however after getting up and moving around it has largely gone away. Is this a good sign?
>>
>>77376751
strain on the back is good as long as it follows reasonably natural movement patterns (not a squat machine)
a strong back is a healthy back
>>
>>77376819
ok but can you answer my originl question tho, particularly in light of this: >>77376791
>>
>>77376832
you'll probably be alright, just take a week or two off squatting
and don't drop set a squat next time, as the other anon said
walk a lot and keep doing upper body lifts
>>
>>77376819
ok but can you answer my originl question tho, particularly in light of this: >>77376791
>>
>>77376849
so you think its just a muscular issue then?
>>
>>77376863
probably
not a doctor bro
>>
>>77375039
You will never not be DYEL

The annulus fibrosus connecting the spinal discs are like tendons, they can take months, even years to fully recover. So, it's hard to say what caused it because of how accumulative spinal damage is. This is why I said early that training heavy with axiall loading is dumb. Unless you have perfect form 100% of the time, injury it's pretty much guaranteed. I used to train heavy, no problem, for years, then I massively threw out my back picking up a fucking diaper. After that I educated myself on spinal health. The mainstream method of lifting, atleast squats, DL, and OHP, is fucking stupid.
>>
>>77375027
Retards still refusing to just bb squat and deadlift in the big 26? Lmao
>>
>>77377068
>annulus fibrosus

How do you know this is the problem though?
