Do you drink alcohol? If so, how much and how often? Do you feel like it has had a drastic impact on your physique and strength? If not, did you used to drink and decide to quit? Do you feel like sobriety has a significant impact on your physique and strength?
I have 4-5 consecutive "drinking days" every 4-6 weeks where I'll have about ~5 drinks/day. Pro:good for social gains like meeting new people or reconnecting with old friends or just enjoying the pleasantness of people watchingCons:fucks with sleep qualitycrazy card and fat cravings for about a week - lots of extra caloriesusually don't exercise on drinking days
>>77375419not as much as i used to. in uni, i'd go out about twice a week. as i got older, it was once a week on average. the main issues i have with alcohol is that it is dense in calories and usually increase hunger, so not good if i'm trying to stay lean, but also that the hangovers are less manageable. the next day, sometimes the next couple of days if it was a big night of drinking, is usually a wash. so i end up wasting a lot of my free time and feeling like shit and feeling like i undid the progress i did that week. i still like to drink every now and then, but my overall frequency is less than it used to and im working on being more moderate when i do drink. generally speaking, alcohol hinders whatever you're trying to acheive in terms of fitness, but then again most people don't exercise and drink regularly and don't track what they eat so you're always going to be miles ahead of the average person. although my results and progression is better when i don't drink at all, it's still enjoyable to drink every now and then. i do enjoy alcohol as a whole, but i also enjoy feeling heatlhy and strong. moderation is best imo
>>77375419Absolutely not. Had a date last Monday. Started at 2:30, around 4 switched from coffee to cocktails, then went to a wine bar.Well, little anon decided to tell me to fuck off and refuse to get erect while making out. In fact couldn't even goon the next day.No more booze ever.
>>77375419Once or twice a week. It's probably affecting my gains, but as long as I have great abs I'm happy.
>>77375419i see no point. it tastes bad and it's a waste of moneyit's also bad for your health. it will cause future health issuesif you don't drink it in the first place you won't have a desire for it
>>77375419Here's the trvth. Genetics aside, which is a huge factor always but whateverThese are the rough rules:And this isn't just body comp. There's a holistic element here where if you feel like shit half the time there will be an eventual consequence, usually compromising consistency.-The younger you are, obviously, the more frequently you can get wasted and still progress at a reasonable rate - perhaps 2x a week, then strict monk mode on the other days-As you pass around 27 yo this moves to around once a week-As you move past mid 30s it moves to twice a month-Over 45 once a month is all I'm doing now. I get still get to look forward to some actual fun and I feel like death the next day reminding me why I can't be a drunk anymore-If you're a fatty and always struggling to cut or "recomp" then it's twice a month regardless of age-If you only have a couple a night, just log the calories, because this isn't really drinking anywayCaveat: Booze tends to carry over, obviously, because when you're wrecked the quickest cure is more booze. So these events tend to go at least 2x days at least making it exceedingly difficult to have 1 and done nights. Good luck
>>77375419i dont drink on lifting days its terrible for your body
>>77375419he drank in this movie because wolverine was basically immortal. i doubt hugh jackman drinks in real life
>>77375419back in collage? Not much, once a week or every fortnight, two or three days per week at most. back in my hometown? way more frequent. Its probably fucking up my gains but well you cant have everything. I think it checks out since im currently very stressed and alcohol is among the best social lubricants
>>77375590plus im almost certain that my alcohol genetics are top notch since i come from a long lineage of high functioning alcoholics who never had any liver problems
I drank 12 16 oz beers for 4 days last week and then immediately did a 3 day fast and I was only a little hungry by the end of it. After tmmrw going to a lake, I'm doing a month long no Alcohol bc my gut is fucked as well. I drink alone if ur social drinking thats fine but this shit is the demon and I will Win
I work on call and my off days fluctuate but if they happen to fall on a Friday or Saturday (maybe the occasionally thirsty Thursday) I’ll have a drink or two. Usually it works out to where I drink alcohol maybe 2-3 days in a month tops. Keeps the habit in check and keeps it from really affecting my fitness in any real tangible amount
I just fill up a vodka bottle with water and drink from it. No one can tell the difference.
>>77375419I only drink in social situations and only if it's a good time that way you can have like three max and basically be fucked up and then I won't drink for months or years
>>77375529It wasn't the booze brother. See a therapist.
Nope. I used to be a pretty bad alcoholic, but I decided to quit and lifting itself keeps me sober.Im a very all or nothing person. I train 5 days a week. There's no real way for me to drink alcohol at any time that doesn't effect my training or sleep. So I'm effectively always sober. The only time drinking crosses my mind is on deload weeks. If you train in the morning, there's no way to drink alcohol without it fucking up your sessions. Unless you day drink after your workout which wrecks gains too lol
>>77375419Alcohol is only for absolute losers.Fully 60% of Americans drink less than one drink a week. That fact will feel unbelievable to those of us who grew up in the 7th-10th decile, decide, it looks like "everyone" drinks. Yeah, everyone around you. Leave it behind, and you will NEVER look back.Sober 8 years, healthiest I've ever been, best social/emotional health. Don't even crave it. N/A beers and mocktails are nice for parties or conferences or whatever, but not necessary. Quit.
>>77375419>Do you drink alcohol? Not any more. I used to drink every day starting at lunchtime with work buddies then again when I got home. Hangovers became worse and longer so I cut back. I then had a couple of tall cans each night until I figured out that's what was interfering with my sleep. I made the mistake of going on a few benders, especially with relatives or old friends who I hadn't seen for a while. But the hangovers became so bad and long that I just decided to quit altogether and never looked back
>>77376315How did you quit? Were you an alcoholic?
>>77375419I average between a half dozen to a dozen drinks a week, have tried quitting for very extended periods, and found no benefits. It's a psyop, folks.>Alcohol consumption and all-cause and cause-specific mortality among US adults: prospective cohort study> Compared with lifetime abstainers, current infrequent, light, or moderate drinkers were at a lower risk of mortality from all causes [infrequent—hazard ratio: 0.87; 95% confidence interval: 0.84 to 0.90; light: 0.77; 0.75 to 0.79; moderate 0.82; 0.80 to 0.85]
>>77375419>>77376315>>77376325>How did you quit?I moved into a white-collar career field anecdotes started meeting more and more sober people. When I mentioned how it seems like less people are drinking these days, one of them looked at me like I was stupid: "dude, most Americans don't drink at all."I couldn't believe it, but I looked into it and realized my family and the company I had kept (plus the constant barrage of the media) made me think drinking poison was normal. I quit cold turkey. I'm the beginning, it helped to have lots of sober friends and a partner to talk to about all the benefits or to shake our heads together about the foolishness of drinking. But over the course of a few months, it just wasn't even an. Investing topic anymore.>were you an alcoholic?I don't know. I didn't rate as one according to the MAST test or other clinical definitions, but did I crave it? Yes. Was it an automatic habit and forgive conclusion that every evening needed to include alcohol? Yes. Did I often drink more than I initially set out to? Yep.So, whatever that's called. I drank anywhere from 7-28 drinks a week. And now that I know how rare that is, I'm so glad I stopped
>>77376348Posting on phone, sorry for the typos and autocorrect!
>>77376348>>77376350Congrats man, thanks for the reply. Yeah after all these years I've seen the harm it's done. I started drinking in college where it was normal and encouraged to drink as much as possible every weekend. I got addicted to it and ended up drinking heavily every night for years. The time has come to stop, looking back it was embarassing drinking like a fish when people would have a beer or two. It's not worth it.
>>77376363You've got this.Write down all the reasons you want to quit. Refer to the list often. Hang out with sober people. Get sober hobbies. Be firm but kind with yourself.
>>77376390WAGMI
I drink everyday and weigh 350 lbs. Also I post here daily saying 1/2/3/4 is ez and show fizeek
>daily alcohol wogspam
If I didn't drink I'd be about 15kg lighter.
>>77376216I admit, I was a little anxious. But I've had sex with the wife at least once every day since then and everything works. It was the fucking booze.
Not anymore, guess it lost its appeal since I started on ritalin. At first I just didn't drink while on it just to be careful. That already showed me I could enjoy being at a party without drinking. Then later I would drink sometimes but I think the alcohol sorta undoes the ritalin or something so it's like a dopamine crash or some shit. Idk it would lead me to either drink more or also smoke weed or something. Now I am literally not even having one glass unless it's a very special occasion and even then only with food and not really to get drunk. Even weed usage has gone way down. Feel like maybe taking up running has taken away the last urges to do degenerate shit like that? Idk. I still do real drugs in clubs every once in a while but don't crave them.
>>77375419I haven't met a single beer enjoyer who wasn't fat. Most fit guys I know dislike and don't drink alcohol. Let go of that shit.
>>77375419I lift specifically not to drink.
>>77375419Oh I don't drink anything ever, it would interfere with doing 5ks several times a week and lifting 2 or 3 times a week full body workouts at a 106 calorie surplus.
>>77376829Same here, why would I drink alcohol if it is bad for me? Even one is absolute lunacy. Get a grip, the second a sip flows down your gullet you might as well take your whole week of lifting and flush it down the toilet. Congratulations you have just set yourself back considerably. Soon enough you will be weaker than if you never lifted a weight in your entire life.
>>77375419I drink beer until my asshole loosens up and I can stomach getting railed by business tycoons. However I now own 8 lamborghinis, a lamborghini yacht, and a ferrari mansion.
>>77375419No, I only smoke weed. I quit alcohol once after doing shrooms, but after years I'd still end up having a beer or two or drinking more on special occasions, but after an extra shitty hangover I decided to finally call it quits and just smoke up instead, feels better and no hangovers.
>>77375419I work shift and pretty much only drink every second weekend when im off. Everything my friend group does involves drinking (cottage, concerts, pool parties, etc.) So i tend to binge drink. Having 1-2 drinks is pointless to me so I either fully commit to drinking or just have none. Sometimes ill drink a case of beer or whole bottle of liquor on those weekends off. I gym 6 days a week otherwise so my rest day is also my hangover day and then im back at it Monday. Unless you're trying to cut, drinking isnt a big deal, you can still make gains. I used to be heavy into the party/rave scene and drank heavily my entire 20s so going from 3-5 nights a week to a couple times a month is an improvement. I had bloodwork done recently and doc said im extremely healthy, liver is top notch somehow so keep doing what I'm doing
>>77375419I had to quit drinking because every time I drink I smoke weed, and every time I smoke weed I have sex with men which is worse for you than alcohol. All I was doing was ruining my asshole while telling myself that if I didn't drink then I am basically wasting my time lifting but I learned to put my mental health before my 5k time or dance tournaments.
>>77376886Well sure it's bad for keeping your butthole healthy but how hard are your nipples? You just neglect entire portions of fitness and call yourself a guru? You would get laughed out of my gym. I have been having sex with men for most of my life, you can't just spout new age bullshit and think if we fought that you could make me cum first. I'm not fuckin gay dude stop acting like a faggot.
>>77376850Weed is worse. People will blaze all day and not see a problem with it. At least alcoholics know they have a problem
>>77376897not defending lazy stoners but when you do too much weed you just watch family guy and sit around all die. when you do too much alcohol you abuse people, your life falls apart, or you drown in your own vomit
>>77376980*all daywhat a slip lol
>>77376897I'd rather be high every single day for the rest of my life than have another drink again.
I drank a litre of gin every day for about 10 years.Weighed 270 lbs.Stopped drinking, lost 90 lbs in a year, not I fit in airplane seats and women talk to me.
>>77375419I drink maybe once every 2/3 months socially, generally will be about 10 standard drinks at most with friends and no more than 4 with coworkers. If alcohol vanished from existence tomorrow I probably wouldn't be too bummed.
>>77375419It absolutely obliterates your gainsSo many dudes drink, wonder why they can't get big and then blame genetics
>>77376897It's hilarious to see all the pot heads cope on r/trees when one of their own points out they have wasted years of their life doing absolutely nothing and wish they could take it back.
