ive never used a smith machine since. I would sometimes use it for seated military presses. it's a glorified guillotine. even squatting heavy in a rack, my first set is to check that the safety bars will catch me AND make sure you have plenty of 45lbs STILL on the rack when you are on your top set. do not trust these things are bolted to the ground. let's say your are squatting 315, then have at least 405 in 45lbs still on your rack so it won't tip and counteract should you drop the weight.

I agree fuck this machine it's just gay I've tired it from calve raises, doesn't feel right, tried it for some front or high bar squats doesn't feel right. Maybe if I'm going light and just want the squat stimulation. But again a normal barbell or even dumbells feel better... Tried doing Rdls hated it my rdls with a barball aren't 90 degrees even if I try. What I've found it after doing chest fully and you just want some incline bench it works in keeping the bar in front of the chest if you really wanted to target the upper. I guess rdls don't feel the worse but once you start going heavy it doesn't work for leverages. This machine is only kinda useful for burn out chest or shoulder like presses but again a bar bell works just fine the only reason I can see is if you are in the gym hard for whatever workout and your stabilizers in your chest or shoulders or back are fried you can burn out some incline or shoulder presses I wouldn't do flat bench on this either.

The thing that gets me is the bar goes way lower than you could expect a person to actually want to go with normal exercises. I feel like there should be a built in safety device preventing it from bottoming out at a reasonable height (several feet off the ground), that you have to deliberately remove to do weird exercises if you want. That doesn't stop someone from crushing themselves against a bench, but I think it would save the majority of cases

I do incline bench on it and when im on my max weight and reps i can safely do, if i start to lose strength i simply use my entire back, traps and all to push the weight up by sitting up and safely re-rack it
