Not only that, the way it's supposed to poison you is that it turns into trivalent chromium in your cells, which then supposedly ruins your DNA. So it's toxicity supposedly doesn't depend on in which form it is, but in which form it was when you absorbed it, and that, I think, is completely impossible.
