I don't pay for races though, or even do an intentional half, just sometimes feel like doing extra distance when long running on trails over the weekend.

Not my goals. I could do this if I wanted to, but it's not worth the sacrifices to me nor is it something I want to do. I used to be a runner back in my mid 20s, but when you start seriously running to set good times, strength training is counter productive, especially the longer the run is. You can do a 10k and be relatively heavy, but good luck setting a good marathon time if you aren't literal victim weight.My best is a 33 minute 10k, and I was probably running 50 miles a week on average
