Why can't I go to concentric failure on my big compounds? I feel like such a fat chud holding reps in reserve and like I didn't get that fullest from my sets. Is it really that fatiguing?

The weak point is rarely the heaviest form of the lift. For example, on any press you're usually weaker with a closer grip. It is also the safest way to lift it, along with it not only hutting triceps more than chest or delts but also from a different angle. Varying your form and putting sets in more than you are usually will help you unless you are a maniac who actually does more than 20+ hard sets of a similar muscle group a week.
