>Grace and her hiking group embarked on a trail.

>About two miles in, she began experiencing severe heat exhaustion, vomiting, and diarrhea.

>The group waited for Search and Rescue. Rescuers from Yosemite Search and Rescue

>Too weak to walk back she was airlifted and extracted via helicopter

>Helicopter Bill costs a staggering 70K Us dollars

Was it her fault or could these happen to everyone?
Could lifting have prevented this?

What about actually useful exercises for hiking like squats, farmer’s carries, bulgarian deadlifts, core workouts, etc.?
Fucking dumbass fag

Grace should start small. Like walking to her mailbox without dying.
>>

Lol 80 year old men have hiked the entire Appalachian trail without ever lifting weights. I get it, you're like 18 and just discovered lifting after a life time of being lazy and think you're superman. We have all been there.
>>
>>77412217
>This was more than likely a lack of preparation and supplies.
Lol, no. Maybe lifting alone wouldn't have prevented it, but it would have helped her not be a fucking landwhale, suppose you could count that as inadequate prep. Also, it would have helped to not have Hashimoto's. Dumb bitch decided to undertake this hike while being atleast 200lbs overweight and having a disease that makes temperature regulation inconsistent.

>>
>>77412238
>80 year old men have hiked the entire Appalachian trail without ever lifting weights
I'm sure they have. But why are you trying to deny lifting is good for hiking? It builds leg strength and core stability. It definitely can help amateurs hikers perform better

Retard. The point isn’t whether she got heatstroke because she was fat.

The point is that she got heatstroke just after TWO MILES AND had to be AIR LIFTED LIKE A 1000LB+ COW out of there by a RESCUE HELICOPTER.

Yes skinny people get heat stroke too. We know that dumbass. But a skinny person might’ve gotten heatstroke after 20 miles, not 2.

Dipshit.

you get a heat stroke after hours, not within minutes. id say its more likely she didnt have the vO2 max to keep up with walking on an incline for longer periods. happens to me too if i go to quickly. on some routes you have to slow down or you will gas out.

There's a whole new niche field for this, specifically for the new fad of ultramarathon trailrunning and alpinism. The gist is:
- lots and lots and lots of z2 cardio
- a small amount of high intensity cardio
- strength training, focusing on lower body and core. heavy squats, deadlifts, etc. If climbing, some upper body pulling.
- muscular endurance training. In a gym this can look like step ups for a half hour, or a circuit of low intensity exercises done for a long period of time. Out of the gym (this is ideal), just find a long (ideally at least 600ft up) steep (like 25 degrees or steeper-- trails seldom get this steep) hill, climb it with >=25% of your bodyweight in a backpack. Stairmaster is worse but also works, treadmills don't get steep enough.
Specificity matters, so if you can hike for your z2, do that. Hike with some added weight, emulate the objective you're training for, etc.
The old fashioned advice is just "hike a lot" which tbf does work, the main problem is most people can't hike at the right intensity several times a week.

Anyway, after you have a baseline of lower body and core strength, building more usually doesn't have any ROI. Bulking for strength gains is counterproductive here. Muscular endurance training becomes the focus.
>>
>>77412217
Yes bench press would help prevent this, not because big pecs help you climb mountains, but the mentality of
>I'd rather die than not hit this rep
would definitely help you not be so gay as to call for help because you're tired of walking
>>
I know commenting defending her is pointless here, but she had GI issues (clinically speaking, "the shits") from an autoimmune disease exascerbated by the heat. The 70k figure is apparently made up as well.
>>
>>77412821
>call for help because you're tired of walking
She's probably the sort of attention seeking cow where everything is about her and is a crisis/emergency.
>>
>>77412848
I can see her actually believing her horrible body is giving up on her in revenge for her giving up on it, but at the same time I can see her being thrilled at being gifted from the heavens the justification for demanding extreme levels of attention from everyone. Women already do it for minor things, like existing.
>>
>>77412216
idk how you could have this experience and not realize it's a wake up call. I nearly passed out on my feet four years ago after doing a hike in colorado while visiting my college buddy and that was when I realized I should be taking my physical health way more seriously. Now I pretty regularly do 10-15 mile backpacking hikes and the worst that happens is I get hungry.

if more fit people hike 20 miles, get stuck and exhausted, and don't face a rescue bill, then she shouldn't. I don't think the distance is the issue at hand, for someone to get exhausted in that manner takes probably a good day or even two to fully recover to be able to make that journey again to get out of there. So if that person is unprepared to camp out in the wilderness, it can become a serious situation. She's obviously too heavy to carry even 2 miles, but if we compare it to a fit person being stuck 20 miles out, it would be very hard to carry them too.

It's locationally dependent. I hiked on a segment of trail in India an American had fallen off the year before and it was so remote and the topography had shifted so much from monsooning and the river that his body was never recovered despite a huge rescue effort that probably went into several million dollars. They were flying in people from the US.

Yosemite doesnt bill you for rescue, but a helicopter to hospital transport would be billed although insurance would cover it.

Hospital evac is expensive because its not a bus. Think about how expensive a private limo is. Now imagine instead of hundreds of people renting that limo and drive throughout the year, it only gets rented like 12 times. It would cost like 10 grand to rent it. Same shit with helicopters but add in doctors, medical equipment, insurance, etc.

WTF? If you’re that fat that you can’t even get rescued by normal means, you probably should reconsider a lot of your life’s decisions.
>70k
WTF?
My ear lift when I broke my back skiing cost less than a tenth of that. And they’re not even using some special helicopter. As heavy as she is for a “human”, that’s nothing to a helicopter. It’s crazy what they can do on alpine construction sites, and they’re used to rescue cows, so if anything, rescuing a cow is easier (and cheaper) than a human rescue, which might need medical specialists and all that.

If she's at all conditioned to the outdoors, she'll be fine. My gf used to be around 240 (before oz) and I'd outpace her on the flats, but any sort of climb she'd crush me because her legs were conditioned to the work and weight.

Compare that with a girl I dated who was 5'4" 180lb with EE tits who literally couldn't walk from one side of campus to the other without taking a break... I'll take 240 any day.

Yes, I love thicc girls.
