I was watching a few reels and I saw a black belt competition where the dude just fucking rips off someone's ankle off at full power in a competition and the comment section were like "this comment section is soft, it's a competition you have to do what you have to do."I'm a little nervous since I signed up for a competition but is the bjj community REALLY like that? Am I really going to be fighting for my god damn life in there?
ur fucked lol
>>77428940Just tap earlyAt white belt ibjjf doesn't even allow leg locks, does it?You'll be fine
>>77428940>Am I really going to be fighting for my god damn life in there?Yes, that's literally the point. Most stupid shit you see happens at white belt specifically.>muh realismThere are a lot of retards doing BJJ and MMA related sports and these people are predominant at tournaments, yes.
yes
no
useless board
>>77428940No and also tap early. In a non competition setting if you are rolling with people who have good character and sportsmanship the last thing they want to do is seriously injure someone because it also reflects poorly on them. I’m sure at a super serious competitive gym there’s probably weirdos who think like this because they have nothing better going on in their lives.
>>77428940Depends.Some guys will break your shit at a local tournament but its much less likely vs at a major tournament. If you were rolling up to worlds or ADCC trials you can almost guarantee guys are looking to break you and are actually skilled enough to do so. All depends on the individual you're not going to die at a local NAGA but fight with the thought of your opponent is trying to rob you of the most valuable thing in the world to you. (your health and well being) Fight very hard but don't be afraid to tap early if something is locked in and you don't know the defensive reaction to the sub. No medal / title is worth walking with a limp for a year.
>>77428940People get all rilled up in competiton compared with trainning, it is good because people fight differentlyI got a bunch of bruises on my face from competing in judo yesterday kekSo yes expect injuries in a full contact martial arts tournament, it is part of the game
I'm looking to get into Jiu Jitsu. Any advice?
>>77428940BJJ guys are insecure about not doing a real martial art, just humour them and research who you compete for.
>>77433584i mean there's injuries and there's purposely maiming someone because I NEED TO WIN AT ALL COST. I'm just genuinely surprised the reaction is more stirred towards "YEAH YOU JUST HAVE TO FUCKING RIP IT". It's like beating up your opponent after he's knocked out in MMA or boxing, just feels like bad sportsmanship if you can't control yourself.
>>77428940>black beltbelieve me, I haven't even watched the reel and I already know the other one had enough time to react or taphe didn't tap, thus it snappedsimple as
>>77429574it's a straight foot lock, which is allowed, and you see it coming a mile away even as a white belt
>>77428940There was like 1 psychopath in the UFC who would hold onto submissions for too long. The fact of the matter is that as a beginner you're going to be in a competition with a bunch of weirdos, but the environment and their training are typically fostering a sense of respect for your training partner and opponent. People who blast submissions are few and far between. But you can get hurt; that's part of the appeal, isn't it?
