hi anons, ive come across a new interview of smeav which is dubbed into english. hes being interviewed about all sorts of things there but at around the 26:00 min mark he starts mentioning mental burdens, meaning of life, his troubles and hes being asked by the interviewer why he doesnt go see a therapist/psychologist. so i was thinking how much would pain, sorrow, troubles, stubborness play into getting successful to reach ones own physical desired changes and goals. im intrested to hear what the view of anons here on /fit/ are on this topic. video: https://youtu.be/E8_kJaveoUQ?t=1576
Lifting seems to exacerbate my mental problems
>>77437173in what way anon? in general or only some specific aspects of what is bothering you? also what does your surrounding while lifting look like? meaning do you lift at home or a commercial gym. alone of with a training partner?
Lifting has cured my depression. In fact it has become an obsession and I often feel like my real life is in the gym and everything else is just mandatory tedium I have to slog through between gym sessions.
>>77437182very intresting to read man and good that youre doing better, ive had this same experience 3-4 years ago, that i´ve become obsessed with lifting it showed in the mirror and scale, ´nothing else besides lifting, eating, sleeping and reading literature regarding all those points. eventually i think i either i got burnt out or hard misfortunes caused me to "snap out" of that osessision. your point is the complete opposite of this anons >>77437173 experience. i wonder what the root cause for this experience is. could it be of psychologic nature, or brain chemicals, social, individual human nature/traits or what.

>>77437193True obsession is a waste of time. It makes you neurotic and retarded. I just show up when I'm supposed to and never think about it or care.
>>77437204>True obsession is a waste of timei understand your point anon. but atleast in my case 4 years back it started on its own(or i like to think that that was the case), the first steps were intentional and then it snowballed into such a focus on everything gym that nothing besides it mattered, it was really strange but not in a bad way. just that i didnt expect or known this about myself that i could become or do such a strict and regimented life. >It makes you neuroticyeah i can see that, but wouldnt the very deffinition of obsession inlcude the word neurotic in it? when i think about it its definetly sohow related to it. >I just show up when I'm supposed to and never think about it or care.this makes me think about the differences between obsession/neuroticism and discipline/structuredness. it seems to me like youre a very "matter of fact" guy and dont really seem to be bothered by stuff, do you think different psychological profiles would be more prone to handle this issue in either your way or the other way. meaning do you think some people would never fall into anything to obsess over?
>>77437168DOING IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE GREATEST 3 ASSETS,HIS MIND, BODY AND SOUL,ALL FOR INTERNET CLOUT,IF PEOPLE KEEP "FEEDING THE MACHINE" SO TO SPEAK,HE CONTINUES TO HIS DEMISE
>>77437182>>77437193It gives me a sense of progress. I am not a bum or a loser outside of gym, I have a degree, a well paid white collar job, a wife and kids. The wife and kids are difficult. The job is tedious and boring. It just feels like the kids are growing into brats no matter how much love and patience and attention I put into them. The job's cycle is "get tedious pencil pusher work, do it before the deadline, get more work". The only payoff for working efficiently is getting assigned more work. So I just do the minimum possible to meet deadlines. I tried being a workaholic but got nothing out of it except burnout. Gym is the only thing that I put effort in and see results. I'm natty so it's not like I'm exploding with muscles but I look much better than before, and every week I try for a new PR, so it's a very clear, simplistic progression of effort in -> accomplishment out (and with the nice side effect of being better looking).
>>77437268this aint your tumblr blog nigga kill yourself
>>77437268>BODYi´l give you that, all the roids are definetly causing damage, but if you would have listened to the interview you would have heard that even before starting his training andrey had things that bothered him, of existential meaning i would say. >ALL FOR INTERNET CLOUT,he only started to post on the internet after he was filmed by a person that wasnt in his circle of people and later begun after receivig lots of question regarding his training and everything around it so i wouldnt say it was for internet clout although you can say posting yourself at any point in your life would be for cloat no matter your intentions.
>>77437304>It gives me a sense of progress.>The job's cycle is "get tedious pencil pusher work, do it before the deadline, get more work".I tried being a workaholic but got nothing out of it except burnoutits seems like you found a meaningful enough counterbalance/weight to a otherwise very mind crushing sounding repetitive job that strains your spirit. i would assume by the way youre describing it, that without the gym you would be worse off?! so im glad you can mitigate that with the lifting lifestyle. >It just feels like the kids are growing into brats no matter how much love and patience and attention I put into them. have you tried putting them in some "hard"/"demanding" sports? not full blown full contact kickboxing but maybe wrestling or jiu jitsu, maybe the values and discipline they´ll learn there could help them in other aspects of life. >Gym is the only thing that I put effort in and see results.yeah rich pianas words often come to my mind when hearing that, and it really lifts the spirits when hard work becomes visible, dont get derailed anon it can happend quick just keep going as dumb as it sounds. >so it's a very clear, simplistic progression of effort in -> accomplishment out (and with the nice side effect of being better looking).that hits the nail on the head, as i said i was in a similar stage in my life and i wish i could have steered that "obsession" into other facettes of my life, but unfortunatly it isnt like a button that one could push to turn it on/off. i belive it came because a combination of circumstances, repetition and maybe a certain selfbelief. thanks for the insight
>>77437168>his troubles and hes being asked by the interviewer why he doesnt go see a therapist/psychologist.Most useless shit everIf your problems can be solved through talking to a stranger they're not real problems.Go hike, visit your loved ones, play an instrument, lift, travel.
>>77437351>Most useless shit everive heard it many times either here on /fit/ or other boards, while i dont have personal experince with any kind of therapist i can see your point. i maybe it could be said that many of these problems can be traced back to how life has changed in the last 2 decades, pretty much globally, lots of people started to be affected by the same type of worries and problems even if theyre divided by many factors.>Go hike, visit your loved ones, play an instrument, lift, travel.all these examples you mentioned were wide spread before the rollout of the internet and especially smartphones, and i think there is definetly truth to what you said and many people would benefit from doing them. but as i said in the interview he mentioned some existential qustions that bothered him from childhood, maybe thats why the interviewer suggested a therapist, to which he replied that the therapist would need an own therapist after talking to andrey. maybe its something to do with the specific being of eastern slavs that some outsiders cant grasp, im thinking in the direction of dostoyevski or tolstoi
>>77437324I BROADLY USED THAT TERM,MY TAKE IS,HE LIKELY ONLY PUSHED AS HARD AND WENT THAT FAR,DUE TO HAVING AN AUDIENCE AND BEING A SOMEBODY NOW,SOLD OUT TO SATAN,>INTERVIEWS>COLLABS>MORE MONEY FOR MORE DRUGS/FOODSELL OUT TO SATAN,
>>77437363>but as i said in the interview he mentioned some existential qustions that bothered him from childhoodI believe can relate to this, although im obviously DYEL by every metric and havent seen the interview either so whatever i say next is just my assumptions. There's a fine line between nihilism and absurdism.>Life is meaningless and i dont matter. Why live ?>Life is meaningless and i dont matter so i'm gonna live to the most extreme extent i canHe probably adheres to this. I've seen him mention religion before in a similar context from his long format russian videos, so i wouldnt be surprised if he brought it up on that train of thought as a form of counter-balance to this ideology
>>77437371ok i see your point now but you can also say that he was generally on gear already when he first got discovered and filmed years back. sure the compounds might have changed or increased over time while he began to post himself. but maybe youre being to harsh on him, since everybody tries to somehow get ahead and earn his living the way he is capable. he seems to have a sponsor now but apparently he also denied many requests of sponsorships and partnerships, so maybe one could say he isnt all in on the money thing.
>>77437373>I believe can relate to this>There's a fine line between nihilism and absurdism.i would generally agree, do you think moral(s) woud play a part in any/both these views? and how do you think both of them affect the human psyche and outlook in the long term, one might think theyre both destructive and will lead to misery but do you think there is also good/usefullness in them?>from his long format russian videosdo you happen to be russian/russian speaking? if so am i right in assuming his stoic seeming mentallity is typical for people like him? and that people mentioning him looking sad or depressed are overblowing the issue?
im of to sleep anons. if the thread is up tomorrow ill reply to more answers if they will come in. otherwise thanks for chiming in there were some interestng viewpoints
