I wonder if a single person on the board can actually refute this without resorting to ad hominems or having a seething chuddy meltdown.

Whites are the strongest race (look at any olympic, strongman or powerlift world record holder) so if anything it would just mean it is biased against whites by regarding fat and muscle as the same.
>>
BMI is great large data groups, maybe not best for individual people's data. The real issue is so many turbo fatties want delete BMI as a data point because it doesn't validate their ham planet mindset with their weight.

With that said, stop being fat

BMI is an effective tool for the vast majority of people to measure what their weight should be given their height. Racial variation in frame width, body fat distribution, or bone density is marginal enough to already be accounted for by the width of BMI ranges. It is only in some edge cases, such as those who are very tall and muscled, that BMI becomes inaccurate, but this is no good reason to throw it entirely out the window, since these are edge cases and require only the good sense to not be evaluated solely with BMI.
>>
>>77438566
I don't care what fat people have to say.
We'll turn them into fuel in the upcoming civil war.
>>
BMI is fine if you combine it with max pull ups as an additional metric. When you meet a "it's not fat it's muscle" coper you can simply ask them do a set of pull ups. If they can do 10+ with strict form, OK fine, it's muscle. If not, it's fat.

BMI is essential for measuring a population. Extremely useful for both the individual and groups of people.

This. It works well for looking at large populations. Certain ethnic groups get the short end of the stick because they store fat differently and can have a bmi over 30 without any health problems.

BMI stops working as a measure of health as soon as a person starts building muscle. Since it's just a weight/height measurement, the type of mass doesn't get accounted for.

It's a shitty system we should stop using. Insurance companies like it because it's easy to measure someone's height and weight and do a simple calculation to determine their health. A more accurate picture of someone's health is much harder to quantify.

That being said, Americans are so fucking fat that almost 50% of them are considered obese based off of BMI. If we switched to using bodyfat % that number goes up to almost 70%.

TLDR; bmi bad, but fatties are still fat and unhealthy

1. non-whites don't matter
2. "people who are bulky with basically no bodyfat" don't fucking exist and most people, even those who go to the gym, don't have enough muscle for it to matter.
BMI works for 99% of people

>>77438566
Nobody DOES use BMI for weight loss - its a false claim. Its irrelevant. Use bodyfat percentages or similar measurements of adiposity.

That being said, most women who have an BMI in the OBESE range are too fat. There may be some thick outliers with both big tits and muscle, but once you hit the numbers associated with OBESITY (not necessarily the "overweight" numbers), youre just too fat.
>>
>>77438566
why would i refute it? it's true.
>A major 2021 study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology (Caleyachetty et al., analyzing 1.5 million adults) modeled the equivalent incidence of Type 2 Diabetes across different ethnic groups. The researchers asked: At what BMI does a non-White individual reach the exact same 5-to-6-year incident risk of developing T2D as a White individual with a BMI of 30?
>white = 30 BMI
>black = 28.1 BMI
>east asian = 26.9 BMI
>south asian = 23.9 BMI
>arab = 26.6 BMI
polynesians are generally recognized to have the highest cutoff, around 33 BMI iirc (although this study didn't look at them directly)

Its a logical fallacy to say that an imperfect measurement must not be useful. This is the same exact logic where retards try to discredit the notion of IQ.

In reality you can have measurements that only slightly correlate with the thing you are trying to measure and that might still be extremely useful information.

1. nobody takes BMI as the be-all and end-all of body measurements, it's just an additional piece of data
2. if your BMI is over 30 there's a 99.9% chance that you are a fat fuck that needs to lose weight
3. if you are a lean muscle monster people can tell at a glance so who cares what BMI says, if you were able to be honest with yourself then just looking in the mirror and pinching your belly would tell you all you need to know about the sorry state that your body is in
4. the real issue of BMI is that a huge amount of people has too much body fat despite falling into the normal range, but of course landwhale never bring this up and they only talk about the extremely rare opposite case

BMI assumes you have a normal, non-roider amount of muscles. Unless you are very strong (and likely using roids) you should take it seriously. You probably have some chub you could lose.

>refute
The post is a verbose and misdirected complaint about ignorant usage of metrics. Naturally, there are complexities on an individual level which must be taken into account. On no level should this invalidate a simple measure of one's weight against their height.

>BMI is a god awful measurement of an individual's weight
Obviously it would be, and obviously that's not what it's used for. It's not your weight that's being measured by BMI. Is this poster retarded?

I'm uncertain as to who and why would ever need anything besides their physical appearance to determine whether they should be losing weight or not.
>>
>>77440349
>who and why would ever need anything besides their physical appearance to determine whether they should be losing weight or not
you underestimate how many layers of delusion these pigs have buried themselves under, they genuinely think that a doctor can't simply glance at their 200kg ass and determine that they need to lose weight because [that's not a scientific approach/trying to lose weight would only hurt them more/genetics/PCOS and medical history + trauma/abnormal anorexia or however the fuck they call it/whatever other cope you might be able to come up with]
Of course non of these retards ever bother to get their bf% measured properly to "prove that BMI is a scam", because deep down they know the truth but they have to keep doing flips on the mental trapeze to keep avoiding it

>>77438566
BMI is intended as a quick screening tool, not a health metric. It can help you estimate your body fat level. More accurate versions which include waist circumference are better for measuring health. It is still a low cost and fast way to estimate obesity to those who do not have access to more accurate bodyfat measurement methods. An actual measure of health combines multiple metrics, not just one number.
>>
>>77438566
just do the calculations for a healthy bmi at extreme heights and you'll see how wacky the weights become. there's a reason it's not used for young children.

at 2m tall and bmi of 21
21 * 2 = 84kg

at 1m tall
21 * 1 = 21kg
>>
>>77440670
my bad...
21 * 2^2 = 84kg
21 * 1^2 = 21kg

yep. Meanwhile china is ruled by engineers and for some reason their GDP grows 10% every year hmmm
>>
>>77438566
It isn't entirely wrong though?
BMI doesn't factor in the source of the weight so yes you can register as a higher BMI while being muscular which in a blind setting could render a false positive.
That said, the underlying assertion that BMI is sometimes inaccurate therefore it should be disregarded entirely is a misunderstanding. For a massive portion of the population it can act as a quick hand guide to whether you are in a healthy bodyweight range and the suggestion here is laced with pro-fat pro-obesity sentiment. The argument their rhetoric really is trying to make is that BMI is wrong because categorizing people as OVERweight implies there is a correct weight which to them is (sexist/racist/homophobic/fatphobic) which is morally wrong.

I would argue BMI has a place in generalizing the population but as with all medical situations needs to be handled on a case by case basis.

Sounds like a woman. BMI is well known to be shitty for people with a lot of muscle, which mostly only applies to men and not women (unless roiding). For women to look better than their BMI suggests they would need to have amazing fat distribution aka massive tits for her frame. Considering how much she is seething I doubt that applies to her, but if it does she should shut up and post body so I can jerk off to it.
And of course having extra weight on your frame can cause health issues regardless of it is muscle or fat, or where that fat is.
