That’s what I noticed looking at older pictures of men from 1840 to 1880. Even unremarkable peasants or some random craftsmen looked like male models and their faces were specifically sculpted. By comparison, women were for some reasons vastly uglier and a lot of them legitimately looked like Neanderthal cavewomen. What happened to both genders in the last century?

You ever try taking a photo with a really shitty phone and suddenly your face becomes a lot smoother and a ton of the tiny little irregulaties you could see on a higher quality camera are just gone? It's just that. Photos were often taken from a distance too so all the little details that collecitvly pile up to make someone look gross are just not as well depicted
