For what it’s worth, I did investment banking after college. I quit in the first 3 years for a better work life balance as did almost all of my peers. We exited to various things but I exited to the lowest wage but most flexible job of all of us and I have the best lifestyle by far. Some of my peers went off to private equity or some high level job in corporate finance and they’re miserable and fat. A lot of them are now married in very unhappy marriages. They make a lot more money than I do, but because I wasn’t tied down to New York or San Francisco, I own multiple homes and they don’t. They still rent or live in some McHouse in the suburbs. No joke. I talk to many of them often and every single one of them is miserable. The truth is as a wagie the only way you can make really good money today is to literally exchange your entire life for it. Raw deal if you ask me. They commute some miserable commute, work all day, come home to a miserable bitch of a wife, and find happiness in 30 minutes cooking dinner for the fat bitch on a Blackstone griddle. Meanwhile, I travel, spend my days fishing or in my studio, just wrote a book, and although I don’t get get laid as often as I used to, my last few short relationships have been with college girls. Yeah, I’m pretty sure my life is a lot better than theirs. The problem for me comes in the fact that I’m still ambitious. The hard truth is that if you’re an ambitious person, only a handful of jobs get you anywhere. So it’s tough knowing that my job doesn’t exactly lead to Congress and theirs can but even so I mean unless you want to filthy rich or a senator my deal is infinitely better.
