Getting and staying sober is /fit/ right? I’ve been trolling this AA meeting IRL by countering the groupthink shit the old heads talk about and agree amongst each other every single day. I’ve been sober 5 years and I’m sure these oldfags think I’m going to relapse any day now. I go about twice a month to do this.>hurr durr I micromanaged all my coworkers and children while wasted and drinking on the job and now I turn it over to God and don’t try to run the whole show>My children still won’t talk to me but that’s ok because I told them I was sorry and now it’s on them>You must agree that you tried to run the whole show or you’ll never be sober>You have to get sober my way
Alcohol fucking sucks, it makes you feel all pukey and nauseous
If you drink till you get blackout drunk you got some serious demons my dude.

Since we are having this conversation publicly maybe the sherrif department you work for should give you a mental health evaluation, i cant imagine being in a prison daily is good for your psyche

But ok bud. I’m sorry your drunk dad molested you when you were 8 years old.
Nice projection is that why you drink in the first place? Now that you admit it you should go to a behavious therapist or something idk

>>77470951It is. I grew up with addicts, was an addict for a while, it wasn't until I got past dumbass 12 step programs that I finally stayed sober. AA/NA is a system for addicts by addicts with built in relapse acceptance. Until you mature enough to realize that in order to stay sober forever you must accept full responsibility forever and knock off this pussy ass passing the buck to a higher power bullshit. It's a fucking built in "it's ok if you fuck up, just forgive yourself and give it to to God" plus a community that continues to support you no matter how often you fuck up.>>77469820>I need to make friendsDo you really?
>>77468892Sometimes life just calls for a party gallon you know?
>>77468892M8 a lot of ego in alcoholics. The aspect of surrender is important to accept at the end of the day we are powerless over people, places and things (what often drove us to drink). At the end of the day all we can control is ourselves, and should be touch booze again, even that's not possible. I'm glad you're sober but the other people you are mocking are trying to achieve what's called emotional sobriety - they don't want the addict brain to steer them as it has done before.Peace be with you brother
>>77471123You know that makes a lot of sense. “Giving it to God” is a way to still hold on to some power because you’re “letting” God take over. Just realizing powerlessness and accepting it and not letting it make you spiral out of what little control you do have is based.
>>77471038>do you really?Fair point. I’ve let a lot of people in my life that did me bad. Mark Twain said something like “the difference between a man and a dog is if you bring a dog in off the street and feed it, it won’t bite you”.
I've been sober for almost 6 years. I've recently thought about going to AA meetings just to listen. Would it be worth it?
>>77471780No it's not. Giving it to god is passing responsibility for your actions to someone else that may or may not even exist. Oh no, sucks that the it's raining, what are ya gonna do? Asshole, your alcohol addiction is not an unavoidable force of nature. Grow the fuck up and manage your own shit.
>>77471780>Rejecting personal agency and shirking responsibility for your own actions is "based"

>>77470949The higher power stuff that comes from cuck religions is gay, but in order to stay sober you do need to have a higher purpose. You have to have goals in life that amount to more than getting drunk and feeling good.

Huh?
Sober over a year now. For me, the hardest thing about not drinking is the FOMO. It's as though everyone else is out having a great time but I'm not allowed to any more. That makes it very hard especially in that first year. What helped me let go is understanding that, actually, drinking wasn't that much fun anyway. It's a front loaded activity. All the fun is had in the anticipation and the first few drinks. Everything after that is an embarrassing, expensive, hangover riddled mess.Still have to find a way to blow off steam. The women in my life are the worst for getting on at me about my drinking (which was never more than a Friday night session with the occasional all nighter with the lads)... But they're happy to fucking sit in the house all day every day watching shit television. They don't understand that, as a man, I need some excitement and adventure in my life. I guess I'm supposed to just go to work, come home, behave myself, rinse and repeat. At which point I ask myself 'what's the fucking point?'.I work out, I run, I eat very healthy... Would drinking be that bad? But then I remind myself that it's actually not that much fun. All those brutal hangovers, all those wasted opportunities. It all started out with a couple of beers. Then I realise I'm better off without it. Still need to find something else though. This sober life is intolerable really. It's just so fucking boring.
>>77469013dude it's ok. my wife developed severe depression after giving birth - so not as terrible as your fate, but still. i was clearing a bottle of whisky every evening. luckily i pulled the brakes on that and took a heroic dose of shrooms.i'm a single dad now as her meds turned her into an emotion less robot.what i'm saying is: AA circles are retarded, take a few shroom trips. the trips itself won't do anything (if it were possible i'd sleep through them) but the psilocin will help your brain heal physicallyi think without the shrooms I'd probably ended up on the street or worse

Yeah I cant go to AA and be honest because the truth is fucking dark man. I have been sober 5 years and my life is worse than it ever was when I was an alcoholic. When I quit drinking I became reclusive and I have not found a way to have a social life without drinking. You hear so many people at AA talk about how great their life is once they get sober and its such a fucking lie. At least if the source of your drinking is social anxiety. And if you never had social anxiety I dont understand how you became an alcoholic in the first place you are just retarded.
........
>>77477260It's all progression. You have to take steps and work your way up. When you remove a coping mechanism from your life, things are inherently going to be worse, or at least perceived worse, because obviously you'd no longer have that coping mechanism.
I tried to quit and stayed sober for a while. Eventually went back to drinking but had a bunch of rules and shit to be functional and whatnot. It was misserable and nothing good happened.I decided to say fuck it and doubled down on being a drunk retard, and making up for it with actual action in staying in good shape, studying a lot, having a ton of activities and actual productive things, all the while getting drunk as fuck.I'm now married with a good job and a career I love. I don't think about getting drunk too much anymore. I do it sometimes but I don't crave it like when I was trying to quit. It does cost a lot of money and gets in the way of fitness, but I'm still doing good in both areas. So, my two cents on this is, stop being ashamed of being a drunk asshole. Double down on it. Lose all shame. And do everything in your power to get away with it.
>>77477260>And if you never had social anxiety I dont understand how you became an alcoholic in the first place you are just retarded.Situation at home was chaotic as a teen so I'd just stay out getting drunk and would come back home blackout drunk when everyone was asleep. That's how it all started, but then I started having suicidal thoughts that would only fade when I was drunk. I had a degree of social anxiety then but I wasn't drinking to socialize, I was drinking to be alone without wanting to kms. That was the worst part because I started drinking alone every day.The weird thing is that now it's all in the past but I'm still addicted. It's a physical thing, like I crave drinking even if I feel perfectly fine otherwise. If I were to rehab I'd definitely be one of those people who are happy now that they quit. I understand your point since alcohol is a useful tool for you, but some others just developed an addiction when coping with something that eventually resolved and now have to deal with cravings and going full retarded.
Alcohol never helped anyone deal with any problem. What does sitting around being a drunk idiot spouting off nonsense and pissing people off have to do with dealing with an issue you couldn’t handle when you were actually functional? Ignoring problems makes them worse they don’t go away.
when I listen to other addicts I'm always reminded how lucky I am, I'm just a guy who can't seem to stop drinking. Everyone else has these fucked up pasts and they insist that I must have one too. I don't even get catastrophicly wasted, I just like a six pack every day but suddenly found I was getting really angsty about not getting my beers. I live across the road from a liquor store which doesn't help
>>77478531Imagine an old person that lost their driver license due to eye sight. They sit in their home all day and their kids are grown and self sufficient, and let’s say their spouse died so they live alone. They don’t talk to anyone and just watch tv all day and drink alcohol that is delivered with their grocery orders plus additional DoorDash liquor deliveries. They can have no social impacts or legal problems from their drinking. Whatever health problems they have from drinking could just be from old age. Is it not possible for this person to be a severe alcoholic, as bad as any other alcoholic, simply because they haven’t encountered any definitive consequences of their drinking? In fact, they may be the worst alcoholic of them all, because they will never take the first step and admit they are an alcoholic, because society has taught them alcoholics have to have at least some legal or social issue due to their drinking.
^^^^
My thoughts on AA as a former heavy alcoholic who went to 5 meetings at different places during the absolute height of my alcoholism (wake up and vomit, down a beer, get dressed and drink a beer on the way to work etc.).I dont want to shit on AA because it clearly has helped lots of people but...In my experience the whole thing was one massive pity party. I understand people have demons and shit they want to get off their chest but after those meetings I wanted to drink more than before I attended. If any of you anons are struggling I dont want to discourage you from trying, it might work for you, but just know ultimately it's up to you and your desire to stop.If I had to give two musts for quitting it would be taking magnesium and finding a good reason to quit drinking. In my case I quit my toxic job and went to college and needed to get off the sauce to be successful.

>>77479290If you /fit/ then many of the foods you're likely already eating have it. Poultry, eggs, beef, legumes, etc. The problem with alcohol abuse is that it hinders your bodies absorption, so even if you're ingesting it your body may not be able to process it
..
>>77479604ftW
>>77478949This anon gets it. I'll go even further and say the definition of alcoholic should be even more holistic. The majority of allegedly non-alcoholic drinkers would never voluntarily turn down alcohol when offered in a "social acceptable setting," basically if it's an occasion where drinking is permitted, and alcohol is present, it WILL always be consumed because their sense of enjoyment practically hinges on it. All the tards that say "i could quit drinking whenever I want," yet would be utterly miserable in any social situation without it, I would call those people alcoholic. Anyone who basically exists with the notion in mind "alcohol would make (insert activity) better" is an alcoholic. You ought to be able to enjoy life to the max without the aid of mind altering substances and if you can't, it's a sign of a maladjusted mind.

I went to uni and discovered that weed and psychedelics were cheaper, lasted longer, and had more of a cerebral kind of effect than alcohol. Pretty much never drank again. I haven't taken a psychedelic or weed for about 6 months now, and I still think about it occasionally, but I'm never really tempted. Feels better to be free. Sure, I might feel great and do a lot of introspection on my drugs of choice, but that's just a shortcut... I'm happy going at the pace I'm going at right now, and it feels so freeing to say that.I'm likelier to join the Astrum Argentum than Alcoholics Anonymous or the Automobile Association.

AA is useless if you don't live in a very big city because it's literally just gonna be like 3 or 4 people there. You go and grill food and eat and catch up after a year of not seeing the person or talking to them at all. You help them with something like haul a piece of furniture or get a new washing machine. So even having friends can feel isolating when sober compared to when you had friends while drinking.
>>77499694>irl friendsBest part of AA is my alcoholic bros. It's nice knowing I can move to any city in the country and within a month or two I'll have several friends to hang out with regularly.
>>77468892Are you religious and feel obligated to help people lmao.
Cant wait for 16 days of Beerfest, downing an unholy amount from 1l kegs, nearly everey day. Thankful for not having an addict personality trait. For all the bros out there struggling. You got this! I shall drink so you must not
.......
Waiting to join a late zoom meeting. 250 days sober
Zoom meetings sometimes get people running a script in their browser to spam nigger in the chat or eggplant+water emojis or head+pistol emojis. Normies get so butthurt over it.one Karen was bent on someone else in the group figuring out where the spammer worked and getting them fired. She was unaware of the impossibility of that Kek.
>>77504004I hope you know this will go down on your PERMANENT RECORD
^speaking of karen, she wants to dpeak to your manager about your behaviour^
>>77468982Why do alcoholics seem to find pleasure in hurting and screwing other people over? I posted about this in the feels thread >>77502949 because I had some retrospect on a few people and realized I knew way more alchies than I thought. They’ll snap at people over literally nothing and go on tirades screaming and trying to belittle them, just give non logic ass pull retorts if you say anything back, they’ll randomly screw over the people closest to them and it’s not even always for any gain it’s just to do it. And I don’t mean like they were supposed to drive you and got wasted I mean like they’ll randomly tell other people a bunch of lies they just made up so people don’t want to trust YOU, or they’ll just break another persons shit for no reason that kind of screwing people over. I don’t get it. Very rarely have I ever encountered the functional alcoholic who’s generally good natured and treats people well, happy drunk. They’re almost all just miserable self loathing bitter people who will totally snap if the binge has gone too far and just start screaming at everyone and anything for no reason. Also, >>77502966 >>77503123 yeah that’s about what I’ve seen with the people I’ve known. It’s insane, no one discusses this shit attitude they have and seemingly sadistic nature. Its not just getting piss drunk and wallowing in their pitty they’re fucking nasty and cruel
Been sober 4 months but had a couple oxys and benzo spread over four days. Wasn't really using them recreationally, just because I needed a break from constant anxiety for a couple of days. There are things I like about being sober like not having to deal with hangovers but I think about killing myself pretty much any moment I'm not at least 80% occupied with something.AA/NA will keep saying that it gets better but this isn't a result of my brain and body recalibrating to normal, this is my normal and how I was before I ever drank anything or took any drugs. It's why I got hooked on shit in the first place ffs.I really don't like this one size fits all approach 12 step has.
Sober September going strong. Haven't had a sip since August. I was spending $10-20/day on beer and it was such a dumb afternoon/evening habit. Put on 20 pounds this year from all the beer.
i got out of 4 months of rehab in february. those programs are weird as fuck but i feel like i got alot out of it and i wont kill myself drinking now
>>77505561every time i got on a bender i couldnt eat and id lose alot of weight
>>775068374 months at rehab is a long stay. Glad you’re doing better.
>>77468892day 9 of no alcohol. probably not a permanent thing, but I'm abstaining to get really cut
>>77506842it was 3 days of detox, 30 days rehab, and then roughly 3 months in a halfway house but i left a couple days early because of train prices. thanks though im definitely glad to be sober
>>77468892Humans, in general, have an addictive nature to them. Those who get addicted to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and sex are the easiest to get addicted to Jesus and His teachings. I struggled with every vice there is, but when I sought Jesus, my life changed forever. I know God forgives me for my past sins, and I put my faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. My parents died, my job was taken from me, my wife no longer even looks at me, and everything I do for this world fails, but my faith in Jesus grows more and more each day, because I was not made to please the dead here on earth, but the living God. He has never left me or forsaken me.There is a reason Temperance is considered a moral virtue; you can still drink, but do so in times of joy, not to drown your sorrows. I'm waiting on those joyous times right now, friend.
..,.,.,.,
probably not the best but I switched from alcohol to kratom powder (not concentrate or 7oh that shit will kill you). Used to go for half a litre of vodka every evening for about 2 years. And now I can just drink socially and I don't even have the urge to find more drinks and drink infinitely. Quitting kratom also has its difficulties, but at least it's costing me less than a dollar per day (don't exceed 10g per day) and unlike alcohol I've been able to go off of it for a month and a half with relative success. There was a marital lawyer on fit a few months back asking how to quit kratom and he was taking 50g a day. Absolutely insane. Hope he made it because he claimed to have a trip to france that should have happened in June if I recall. Realistically kratom doesn't really push you to increase the dosage every time because it's a partial agonist. That anon just wanted to chase the first highs that he got.
^yikes^
>AA/NAJust an eternal pity party for people that can't move on. Leave it in the rearview and just forget about it.>but the feelingsStop being gayt. went in my early 20s and figured it as a larp pretty fucking quick
>>77509312>why isn't everyone like me
>>77468892I used to get blackout drunk on at least 1 bottle of vodka + beer every Friday and Saturday but never drank during the week. Like 8 weeks ago I stopped getting shitfaced at the weekend but now I drink a little bit almost every day. I'm now wasted after 3 or 4 beers and rarely drink more than that but I feel like much more of an alcoholic than before.
>>77510777Strong beers? Daily drinking is bad, you start that habit and it’s very hard to break. They say binge drinking on weekends is worse healthwise but really I think daily drinking is worse simply because it’s so hard to break that habit and you get the physical dependence much easier. I would get alcoholic hallucinosis (most get DTs) and it’s not good.
>>77510782I already feel guilty or ashamed when I go to the store around the corner every day to buy beer, and it’s always the same cashier. Sometimes I get a bottle of wine to change things up. I also don’t want to stock up on beer, because that seems to me to be the next worst thing I could do to encourage and hide a bad habit. I’m currently in a phase where I know it isn’t even bad right now, but it could very quickly become bad. I have days where I'm just really busy and don't drink any alcohol at all but they've become rare. If I had to guess I drink like 20-25 half litre 5.2% beers per week. Honestly, when I was going out and binge drinking (which was just having fun, not because I felt like I had to drink) I probably drink like 10 per night + hard liquor, so it's still actually less in total now.
>>77510796Try to have more sober days. If you find that hard to do, then you’re pretty much destined to get worse. Alcoholism is progressive.
^get help^
Something just dawned on me. I never really felt bored or under-stimulated until I started drinking. Before that, I was always able to keep myself occupied and entertained with little effort. I have lots of projects to work on. It’s not because of my natural (dopamine) baseline that I feel the need to drink to keep from getting bored, but because I’ve raised my threshold so high that I only find most things stimulating again once I start drinking. One of my friends, who is a heavy alcoholic, said exactly the same thing a few years ago, and I just remembered it and made that connection. He always said that he was bored, and nothing was fun for him anymore, and that he drank to make certain things more enjoyable. I don’t drink because I’m bored. I’m bored because I drink.
>>77468892I've been sober for 2 years now and I was able to quit out of pure contrarianism. My doctor was a woman and she started bitching at me when I told her how often I drank and I didn't want to take shit from a woman so my misogynistic anger made me quit.>>77510796Yeah for me, it got to the point where I would start to pull out my ID and the cashier would say "I don't need to see that, you're here all the time." Fuckin brutal lmao
>>77468892>Getting and staying sober is /fit/ right? Not really.
>>77509337Why do you want to constantly revisit negative events? You're in the cuck chair of your own mind
>>77510918This man gets it
>>77510925I had a cashier say>you can drink three 8% tall boys every night?Fucking rekt me
>>77470936>Why are recovering alcoholics all like this?alcohol withdrawal is a special kind of hell which forces you to acknowledge a moral component to this universe
>>77509312Please explain what you think the suffix "ism" in alcoholism means
>>77504934demons unironically
250 days sober today
>>77512734Nice
>>77512454^unironically has demons so he drinks till he blacks out unironically of course^
>>77468892I've done it all. The pills and the shot, CBT, rehab, AA, sober living, group and solo therapies, all of it, for decades. Some seemed to help for a while but I always went back. The only thing that worked was Jesus. Not go to church and still feed your evil desires the rest of the time. We all sin, but war with it, with Christ's strength. Daily, consistent obedience. It's usually not some grand thing. But I don't drink and I have peace like a river and a deep joy and certainty. I don't like people and now I feel concern and love for others. Bitter and lost people will revile this, but I want you to know it is the truth. Everything that is not God will let you down in the end. Everything.
>>77510796It's crazy to me that alcoholics do this. I see it sometimes at the grocery store, they go in, buy alcohol, and leave. I would feel so ashamed.
>>77514336At one point, you just don't give a fuck
>>77514336Most cashiers where I live are not judgmental at all and just engage in conversation with them like most of the "regulars", and they're actually happy to see them. I think it's the professional thing to do, and they don't really have a choice, but sometimes it weirds me out. The cashiers know the people are alcoholics, and they feel with them and don't want to make it awkward, but at the same time they are creating a comfortable environment that causes zero friction for alcoholics to buy more booze. Then again, they can always just go somewhere else. A friend of mine used to drive out of town to buy in different stores where most people wouldn't know him.
ive been drinking about 4 ounces of whiskey every night for the past 6 months. Just need something to take the edge off, haha. Seriously though ive never been blackout drunk and i cant remember last even being hammered. I just need a slight tipsiness to end the evening, thats all. I can stop any time I want
>>77477260hey man, look into Phenibut. Downside is you cant take it more than twice a week and if you get careless with it, it will fuck your shit up worse than anything, worse than benzos. But 2x a week at moderate dose, its like the Limitless drug.
^yikes get help^
>>77468892Imagine having problems where you cannot STOP drinking poison hahahahHAHHAHAHAHAsuffah alchie faggots
>>77468982>>77468941Kys zoomer incel
>>77485320I was smoking weed too, but I got bored of it.I don't think weed isn't addicting cause I know some people who pretty much threw their lives away to smoke pot and not do shit and can't go a day without it or they want to kill someone. But I abused the fuck out of weed at the same time I developed alcoholism way harder than I drank and I became addicted to alcohol and not to weed. Not only I never craved weed but I started rejecting it, like people who hate the taste of alcohol and if they ever drink out of peer pressure they have to force themselves.
>>77514336I don't feel ashamed for being an alcoholic. It's an illness. A chronic one, too. Would you feel ashamed for being wheelchair bound or having psoriasis or some shit? Probably, because you're a faggot. I'd feel ashamed if I tortured animals or some sick shit, no shame in drinking beer. Unless you have children who need you or things like that, then I agree that person needs to get it together.
No, >>77516408Faggot
>>77517484Being an alcoholic thats consuming alcohols is equal to walking around bleeding and not doing anything to stop it. Yes it is shameful behavior.
