The nepo hires were guys like the 80 IQ son of the #150 guy in the CCP, dad bought his way into Harvard, then got the job because it guaranteed several M&A deals worth $100m+ in fees (for the record that guy is a slam dunk hire vs a dime-a-dozen, much smarter but zero network guy like me).Anyway, the point is the rich kids were a hard reality check for me. It's a huge head start advantage having a rich dad guide you through that world. But like most fields, the advantage is almost entirely about getting in the door and navigating the first couple of years, after that the playing field evens out big time.One thing I learned: young rich people look like the preppies in old Abercromie and Fitch ads. They don't look like meatheads who lift. Especially among senior guys (and this includes Big Law, C-suite execs in every field), there are 20 guys who seriously do endurance exercise for every 1 who lifts. I was the only one who looked like he lifted in clothes, and it wasn't an advantage.

You caught me in a good mood so I'll give you a real answer. It's the forearms. You almost always have the opportunity to have forearms visible. A year ago, I was wearing pants, a loose button up and a wool sweater. I pull up the sleeves. My arms are vascular. Someone asked me if I work out. I asked what gave me away. He told me my forearms were jacked.
