Alright, I got $1,500 to spend on home gym equipment. Cardio is taken care of. What would /fit/ buy to maximize gains?
>>
>>77474503
You need more money
>>
>>77474505
Cool cool and yet here I am with $1,500

So what’s the first thing to buy
>>
a lathe and a bandsaw
>>
>>77474508
You should already know this answer if you know how to lift. Since you don't, get a gym membership
>>
>>77474510
My brother in whey.

I’m asking the collective for their personal inputs. Literally go stick another tren and go back to jerking to twinks while pretending you’re still straight.

Basically curling in a squat rack for how useless you are
>>
>>77474512
You should invest in thicker skin
>>
buy 2 adjustable sandbags and a power tower
one bag should weigh 150-200 and the other should weigh 200-400 depending on current strength level
lift and carry your sandbags around then spam dips and pull ups 2-3x/week
spend the rest of your money on animal protein
>>
>>77474514
That's not how you use that expression.
>>
A squat and dip bar and a standard bar with like about 300lbs. Its all u need
>>
Steroids
>>
>>77474503
power rack
bench
olympic barbell
weights
literally all you need
>>
>>77474503
get a good power rack w/ safety attachments, an at least decent barbell, an adjustable bench, and plates to start. something all-in-one like a REP altitude if you're looking to maximize use/area ratio. i'd get a good quality set of adjustable DBs too, but the other stuff comes first
>>
Get some rings
>>
>>77474548
Get bumper plates so you can do oly lifts. There is almost no reason not to get bumpers if its for home gym.
>>
>>77474503
A good power tower ($250 minimum)
Power rack
Dip belt
Plates
>>
>>77474503
>>77474508
Gym membership or if youre dead set on a home gym get a cheap power rack with cable system from amazon ($500) a 300lb weight set and a bar. This should allow you to do most exercises until you get more money. You said cardio is covered so i am not going to touch on that at all.

The only thing you need is a power cage, a bench, a barbell and weights. You can work out any muscle using that. Then After you have this I guess get some dumbbells.

Also a poster of Rich Piana/Scooby
>>
>>77474804
Far too expensive for a $1500 budget
>>
>>77474503
A half cage or full cage with lat pulldown attachment, an incline/decline bench, a barbell and some weights. That's all you need. Half cage makes doing overhead press easier. Take note of how wide the cage is, your bar needs to be wider. Check facebook marketplace, $1500 is way more than you need.

>>77474505
No he doesn't, stop thinking like a goysumer and check facebook marketplace. You can get everything you need for like $300 because everyone wants to get rid of gym equipment.
>>
Gymtards will tell you to blow $10k on professional grade power cage, barbells, plates, etc. but if you buy a few jump ropes, some good running shoes, a few kettlebells, and some punching bags you’ll have a much better body and overall level of athleticism than they will.
>>
>>77474503
A 3x3, 1inch power rack, a barbell, a bench
>>
Probably a couple hundred to finish the walls down there
looks like you've got some smaller equipment already so I'd recommend:
2 adjustable dumbells (the heavy clunky ones)
a barbell
2 1.25 lb plates
2 2.5 lb plates
2 5 lb plates
2 10 lb plates
2 25 lb plates
and as many 45's as you need, which should probably run you ~$2/lb for a total of a couple hundred bucks
a good power rack is a couple hundred
I'd start cheaping out here and think about DIY-ing your benches and whatnot, but you've probably got margin
>>
>>77475289
>punching bags
no
>>
>>77474503
What dumbbells are those? What's the max weight on them?
>>77475393
Looks like he already has dumbbells
>>
Whatever you buy, buy it used
>>
>>77474503
Ironmaster home gym setup
>Super bench pro V2
449$
>Pro V2 cable tower attachment
$619
>Total
$1068
That'll leave you a little leftover to get either the smallest adjustable barbell set. Or just buy some plates to go with the tower. Literally everything you need so long as you're fine with ditching the bar bench/squat/DL for DB alternatives. Best part of this set up is you don't actually need to spend that 1500 all at once. Ironmaster does payments through affirm. You can add on more as you go. Tower cables are only rated to 250lbs but let's be honest, you aint going over that.
>>
>>77474503
I'd just buy a quarter grass fed cow and veggies from a local farm for the summer.
Yes, they sell quarter cows.
>>
>>77475289
Useless advice from a vegan retard.

Go to facebook marketplace and buy equipment that was used once and then forgotten about for a decade for 10% of the new price.
>>
>>77475401
I mentioned adjustables so you can use plates on them to get heavy dumbbell workouts
>>
>>77474503
Anyway, get a bench, some adjustable dumbbells, a rack, and some plates. That should pretty much cover like 95% of what you could ever need. Get something you can do pull-ups on eventually. The rest is just knowledge. Some private/group coaching sessions could really help out there.
>>77474512
>>77474533
Also, and this is important, get a better attitude
>>
>>77475590
Oh like the 2inch dumbells?
>>
>>77475393
>2 10 lb plates
4. Other than that, this.
>>
>>77474503
$1500 of resistance bands
>>
>>77475651
No, 6.75" ones so you can load them up heavy.
>>
>>77475257
>>77475417
>>77475563
What kinds of things are you guys seeing on marketplace? All I ever see on there these days is cheap, flimsy shit equipment from Amazon and Dick’s. A few years ago, people were selling lots of high-quality items, but not now, at least in my area.
>>
>>77474503
>gymnastics rings
>pull-up bar
>>
>>77474804
>so you can do oly lifts
don't do this
>>
>>77475717
I would add a pair of adjustable dumbells too.
>>
>>77475719
a guy who doesn't know what to buy also doesn't know how to weightlift
>>
>>77474503
Look around for used stuff. If you get lucky with the timing of some fatass giving up, you could get a LOT of equipment for far less than 1.5k.
If you are buying new, the only thing you really need to spend significant time researching is the power cage. Super cheapo ones can be fine, but they may not have easy expandability for you later on if you want to get new toys.
For instance a half rack might sound nice because they're smaller and often cheaper yet still incredibly stable from the good brands, but you'll soon find out you can't add literally anything on it even though it has the same 2x2 or 3x3 uprights and hole size/spacing because there simply isn't room for things like plate holders or a pulley system. You aren't going to want/need them right away but maybe in a year or two you're going to want something.
Build your own platform btw. It's easy and will save you a shit ton of money. Horse stall mats from tractor supply. Wood from home depot.
Generally I advise barbell + cage -> dumbbells -> pulley attachments for cage. As you go further down the list, the less essential it is.
>>
>>77474505
Tinder slag is that you?
You need more money isn't the answer to everything you rim job. I got all I need for even less than that and I'm leaner and stronger than 99 percent of anons here. You probably think fancy equipment is needed to because you're searching for the thing that "finally works" not knowing its you
>>
>>77474503
stop being a brokie, i spent $6k on equipment alone
>>
>>77475666
I'd almost say 4 for everything 10lbs or less, to do microjumps on the dumbbells
>>
>>77474503
Used power rack
Used barbell and plates
Adjustable db handles from Walmart and standard plates from Walmart for them
HD adjustable bench
>>
>>77474503
Sandbags. Just buy bags of sand and wrap them in duct tape. Don't need anything else. Although a heavy bag will help
>>
>>77474503
A good incline bench, $300-500

A squat rack with a plate loaded cable machine $500~ (make sure it can hold 600+ pounds, anything more than that is fantasy land level expectations, you'll probably never have more than 200-300lb on that thing)

Set up adjustable dumbbells (up to 50lb each hand is enough) $140ish manual adjust or $250ish auto adjust ones.

Barbell and 2 5lbs, 4 10lbs, 2 15lbs, 2 25lbs, 2 45lbs weight plates. (This will last you a couple yrs before you'll need more weight, if ever.) $300ish

A ez curl bar $40

Gloves, notebook for logging workouts, 2 kitchen timers with magnets, a yoga mat $30

Absolutely make sure your squat rack comes with safety bars so you don't die during bench press.
>>
>>77474503
I bought a lat pull down machine from Amazon for 164.

GDLF LAT Pull Down Machine, Low Row Cable Machine for Home Gym

I love it. I got my squat rack from Dicks with a 300 pound barbell set. That was enough to really get going. You can get really far with that.

Good luck
>>
>>77474503
Dumbbells is all you need
>>
>>77474503
Horse stall rubber mats from tractor supply, carpet tape on the bottom and gorilla tape together on top. Idk $100.
Rack. You want 3x3 uprights with 1" or 5/8" holes and 1" spacing for attachment compatibility. Pullup bar, plate storage pegs, safeties, jcups, etc. Doesn't need to be an expensive brand if it has those specs. If off amazon except scuffs in shipping. Maybe $400. Cables propbably more expensive, I don't have them myself.
Bench, adjustable. Decline isn't needed but go for it if you want. Make sure it allows for 80 or 85 degrees since straight 90 sucks. Vertical storage is nice too. REP and ironmaster have good ones. They have attachments too, but I don't give a shit about them. $400. Or if you don't care just get a flat bench, which you can go cheap on.
Barbell. I recommend olympic style instead of a power bar. Very slightly thinner, the knurling isn't as aggressive (but still good, look for volcano), no knurling in the center of the bar so I can squat shirtless. Stainless steel is the best for rust resistance, but coatings like cerakote are good too. Mine is Rogue, but there are many good manufacturers. $200-300. Also get good collars.
Plates. Iron or rubber, rubber can be virgin or crumb for the cheapest. All are good unless you ever want to do oly movements. Most likely thing you can find secondhand. I recommend crumb rubber, specifically homegrown fitness if US. They have decent prices, and their thin 45lb plates have metal inserts that don't make them fucking huge compared to other crumb brands. Crumb is little over $1/lb. Get some cheap iron 5lbx2/2.5lbx2 plates off amazon from CAP or whatever.

You're already at the limit, but also adjustable dumbbells. I see you already have something. Ironmasters are the best, but if being quick to adjust is really important then powerblocks or snodes are also good. I have IMs and love them. You'll want a little table instead of a stand if IMs. Like $800.
>>
I would go for
>cage/squat rack
>bench and/or adjustable bench
>barbell
>a variety of plates and something to store them on
>dumbbells
>>
>>77475651
Doesnt matter, you can just sandwich an olympic plate between 1" plates.
>>
>>77474503
If your ceiling joist is high enough, maybe olympic rings? Depending on what you're aiming for.
>>
>>77476646

This is OP coming back to the thread, thanks everyone for great ideas / layout.

That initial guy who responded was salty trash, glad to see there are actually people who are gonna make it on this board instead of basedlets raging because they have to much estrogen in them they can’t help but be a Karen everywhere esp on an online underwater basket weaving forum
>>
>>77474503
power cage and dumbells solve most of your problems if you can already do pullups
>>
>>77474503
Too small of a budget to buy an ideal gym new, you cant even afford a hotel gym dumbbell rack. Youll have to piecemeal used shit. Also the Virginia gym membership tax is another proof of home gym supremacy.

I just picked up one of these for $100. It's a nice solid unit and a step up from my old york 9200 bench. Never buy gym equipment new, at some point it's going to be your turn to get rid of it and that's alot easier to do when you've got nothing invested in it.
>>
>>77480211
That's a great price for what it is yeah, still I would never want it. If the bench is good that alone is enough to justify the price, but squat stands really suck. The safeties look 12" at most, no pullup bar, really bad plate storage.
>>
>>77480211
>at some point it's going to be your turn to get rid of it
why?
>>
$600 squat rack
$200 bar
$400 adjustable bench
$300 weight
>>
>>77480301
It's not ideal, but the price was right and I already have a seperate pull up/dip tower. A full cage would make it harder to do OHP and I'd need a good bench for a half cage anyways. The bench is solid and wide, my old one would rock side to side and I couldn't get centered on it properly.

>>77480477
You need to upgrade or life happens and you need to move or you end up never using it like the last guy that owned it. In my case the last guy needed to upgrade, I'm sure he paid 8x what I did considering the condition I got it in.

just buy the thing the first time. also, it's steel, it doesn't need to be upgraded

Buy a nice incline bench and a pull up bar, a pack of resistance bands, then buy the most dumb bells you can off facebook marketplace for cheap. no need to spend all $1500 now.

budget not big enough for real setup, probably not big enough to need a crazy setup either

$120 is the cheapest incline bench youll find at a store and some dumbbell handles are top tier starter equipment. add pull up bar and OP will go from zero gains to some gains for less than 1/10th of his budget
>>
>>77480635
horseshit
>>
>>77480635
Starter equipment is retarded, that's just shit you'll throw away or throw back up on facebook marketplace where you got it from some other retard with the same idea. Lifting for a year in a gym should give you all of the information you need, you should know what you want and make good purchases the first time, and until you can afford them just keep going to the gym.
>>
>>77481234
Best advice itt. I’ve known too many people who went all in on home gym equipment only to find they didn’t use it. Working out in a regular gym for a while is a good idea to gauge if you even like resistance training. Another thing is to try doing a workout at home, even bodyweight stuff, and see if you can keep consistent. Lots of people just can’t train at home because they have mental resistance to the idea of home being for something else besides rest, relaxation, etc.
>>
>>77481389
>>77481234
theres nothing beginner exclusive about dumbbell handles or an incline bench though. thats why they are good. you can/will use both for your entire lifting career. either just add weight plates as your strength increases or put the incline in a rack if you ever scale upwards. neither you just magically outgrow
>>
>>77481797
>$120 is the cheapest incline bench youll find at a store
>dumbbell handles
That shit is "starter equipment" because it fucking sucks man. You're talking like a brown retard living in a favela with a dirt floor, content to prowl the streets on a 125cc motorcycle with a tranny in the backseat. What do you mean some amazon flybird equivalent dinky bench is something you want to use for your entire lifting career? Who wants to fuck around with mismatched 5/10lb iron plates and shitty oversized handles that feel awful to use? And chances are those db handles aren't even 2" oly style, but 1" screwlocks.
Why waste your time and money fucking around with that garbage, whether you intend to sell it later because it's starter equipment or because you actually think that's good enough to comfortably use forever? Just keep going to the gym for like 6 months more, and save up enough to get nice things that you'll actually be happy to use for years.
>>
>>77481814
and talk like a retard whos ego is based on the brand name on bits of metal he clanks around. the $80 weider incline bench i started lifting with was literally fine, ive felt expensive adjustables worse than dusty oly handles forgotten in the corner of commercial gyms. only truly autistic spergs are thinking about the namebrand fractional plates they bought or spending a mortgage payment on le LATEST AND GREATEST adjustable db they barely ouch
>And chances are those db handles aren't even 2" oly style, but 1" screwlocks.
then dont buy that exact listing retard, did i not state 'this is the first thing on fbm'
>>
>>77474503
This is what I'd do if I was starting from scratch.
First, power rack only. Use it for chinups until you can do a single set of 15. Do negatives if you can't do a rep, skip bands. Follow a pullup program if you find yourself stuck. Always superset with amrap pushups, and pick up running with c25k or just doing progressively longer run/walks by feel. Get a watch so you can track your work.
When you can do a set of 15 chins (this will take a long time for most) and your pushups have presumably moved too, get a dip attachment, dip belt, plates, and do weighted dips instead of pushups and weighted chins at 5x5.
At this point, get a barbell too and start to do squats, deadlifts, rows and overhead presses along with the chins and dips. Do LP until failure, then double progression or 531, just do what excites you. I also recommend getting something to do heavy carries with, work towards your 1rm deadlift. Keep the running up. Do full body 2-3x/week, or upper lower upper lower if 4x/week.
Do yoga or mobility training after lifting and running.
I regret buying and wasting time with:
- bench (expensive and takes up space for one movement, dips are better if you can do them and if you can't push ups are better)
- adjustable dumbbells
- ab wheel
- resistance bands
- plyo box for step ups, reverse lunges are superior
- rings

THAT SAID I recommend trying stuff out and seeing what you like. Having fun is a good thing and usually makes you push yourself more.
>>
>>77474503
buy the shit to do the shit you do you stupid sack of shit
>>
All my shit came used off cragslist like 15-20 years ago, it all lives in my garage and has been used so heavily that my handprints have been etched into the bar from where i grip. Get used preferably cheap, use it until it breaks then buy new
>>
>>77474548
You could even do it without the rack and bench, and those are the most expensive items, also the most space consuming by far.
Changes everything
>>
>>77481797
>>77481814
It’d be one thing if that equipment was easy to sell, but instead it’s the kind of stuff you see listed for months and years on marketplace and craigslist because nobody wants it. That’s why you shell out for quality gear the first time, especially if you plan to upgrade along the way. Otherwise you’re tossing money into a landfill.
