I went to the gym's pool today for the first time in years and could only do three full laps before I was so exhausted I had to stop. And even before then I was doing my last lap slow and sort of doggy paddling. Is that really bad? Or is it to be expected for someone getting back into swimming? How long will it take me to improove my numbers?

Pic semi-related, it's my dog swimming :)

Endurance goes away very quickly especially as an adult who otherwise get no GPP (play). You have to recondition both your heart and local muscular endurance.

No ETA on improvement but even geriatrics can swim it's just a matter of consistency.
