I literally never stretch before I work out. Will this come back to bite me in the ass?
>>
No. Stretching is basically superstition. There is no proof it works or does anything. I have never stretched before lifting in my life.

And while warm ups seem like a good idea I think they are also largely superstition. Still worth doing tho

I feel good when i stretch, so i go by that. But idk if it's necessary.

Guess sports teams have it wrong
>>
>>77478154
This isn't entirely accurate. The data doesn't really support claims that it prevents injury or directly assists with performance.
>There's no proof it works or does anything
That's where you went to far. There is proof it works for increasing range of motion and mobility. Which has it's own place and benefits in pretty much every physical activity. There is also lots of evidence it's physiologically relaxing which carries it's own assortment of benefits.
>>77478139
>Will this come back to bite me in the ass?
Regarding your performance in the gym? Unlikely. Regarding your performance in sports/recreational activity? Only in so much as range of motion & mobility is important. Also, if you don't want to be walking fossil barely able to move at all when you're 50+, you should stretch.
>>77478163
It's not that they're wrong, it's that the common thing stretching was prescribed for, for a very fucking long time, was wrong, and re-writing that bit of knowledge is hard. There's lots of shit that only exist as they do because of tradition. Not just in the gym or sports either. For example, Guiafenisen, the most commonly used mucus thinner in the world, does absolutely nothing according to studies done on it.
>>
my knees are pretty terrible, after the first set of squats they are screaming in pain. but the following two sets, they are fine. i dont know whats happening

>For example, Guiafenisen, the most commonly used mucus thinner in the world, does absolutely nothing according to studies done on it.
Iirc this is overstated. What it doesn't do is magically make you cough up mucus or necessarily reduce mucus volume, and maybe that means it is shit as an expectorant for the common cold. But, there are still studies than land in 'mixed' territory over definitive placebo including for long term illnesses. It might still be the case that it works in a subset of people. People experience colds differently even in your studies.

>nuh-uh placebo
Fuck you I get way more than 7% relief slamming guaifenesin with a wet cough idc what you or The Experts say. I will continue to effectively treat myself with easily obtained, cheap, effective OTC medicine, jabby boi.

If you're young, you can usually get away with not stretching. However, once you hit around 27-28, it really helps to at least do a warm up set. It's worth it to get in the habit of stretching when your young, as it'll help out if you plan on lifting as you get older, and it's something I wish I did when I was younger.
>>
>>77478139
As you get older, warming up is crucial. Stretching isn't required as a warmup though unless youre stiff to begin with
>>
>>77478139
The current consensus is essentially that static stretching before strength training is bad, but dynamic stretching can be beneficial under certain circumstances, and that performing the exercise movement during the warm-up is essentially the same as stretching, as long as you can use the full range of motion. So if you perform a movement without weight or just with the bar and don’t feel any tightness in your joints, you can basically just warm up by performing the exercise with light resistance and continue as usual, and if, for example, you go into a deep squat and feel some tightness here and there, you can alleviate it through dynamic stretching. I’m not against mobility training, I simply consider it a separate matter that I use primarily for recovery and rehab.

I stretch to improve my posture and biomechanics and circulation of blood. Fascia compression and stretches work well. You should try 3 minute held stretches to work on pelvic tilt and hunch back thoratic posture.
Stretching various muscles have also improved my breathing so suck some dicks you lemon

>>77478291
warm up and order galakay
take it 3x a day one pill
do a lot of drills like sitting in a squat for 5 minutes

>I stretch to improve my posture and biomechanics and circulation of blood.
Same. It also corrected my uneven, rounded shoulder, which in turn drastically improved my bench and helped me develop my right pec a lot more to balance out the asymmetry. Personally, I believe that good mobility and posture which allow you to perform an exercise in a way that isolates the target muscles much more effectively, are massively underappreciated. If your posture and mobility are off, you can follow all the instructions for a perfect lift and think you’ve positioned your body optimally and still be far from it. Structural alignment dictates muscular recruitment. I also do breath work, typically simultaneously while I work on posture, which acts as a synergist and also improved my snoring and sleep apnea. From the shoulders down my upper body has also become more vascular.

You SHOULDN'T stretch before a workout, it strains your muscle fibers before they're exercised. Stretching is for after you finish, to limber up your joints and keep your muscles from getting stiff.
You should still warm up, though, it just shouldn't be stretching. Jog in place, swing your arms, get the blood pumping and the body loose. It'll help keep you from snapping your shit.

>I literally never stretch before I work out. Will this come back to bite me in the ass?
Yes, I was able to get away with no stretching, no warmup, straight to 5rm, for several months, but eventually started getting injuries. It was never a moment where something snapped. Just a little owie here and there, a tiny pull that takes a few days to heal. Then I started getting tendon pain. I looked online and they said "under 3/10 in pain is fine". And I figured I am a big man, this is not 4/10. So I kept going. Ended up with tendonitis in both arms and shoulders. Eventually started doing stretching, and tendon work, no more minor injuries every week, tendonitis is slowly going away.

Note: I am in my 30s. When I was in my 20s I could do whatever I wanted and get away with it. This might be an age thing.

Regarding your image: I once heard a Buddhist monk describe discipline like this: he said discipline doesn't exist, there is only motivation. If you are forcing yourself to do something you don't enjoy or understand, eventually you will give up. But if you understand the consequences of your actions, what is good, and what is bad, and you make conscious choices, you will always choose what is good, and nothing will have to be forced.
>>
>>77478154
This guy knows nothing and is a faggot.

You don't have to stretch before working out, but its incredibly healthy and promotes healing in sore muscles. Doing 5 sun salutations after a workout is probably the best time you will ever spend doing anything in your fitness journey.
>>
>>77478154
guess pros who stretch are amateurs and the powershitter in the gym is the real pro
>>
>>77478139
The only stretches I do are 5 minutes of them before 5-a-side footy. Been playing sports/exercising since I was 8 and now 37 with zero problems.
I will probably start doing yoga since I'm single now and I can maybe meet some cuties.

I just do a little warm-up(similar to shit you usually did during PE classes) before and stretch after working out and so far I am fine.

Discipline has always been about doing things properly and thoroughly, and not forcing yourself to do something like a fucking drone.

Dude you are going to hurt yourself if you don't stretch!
>>

I think stretching and flexibility exercises, especially those aimed at correcting posture are very individual, and you’d be wasting your time if you followed a standard program or performed certain stretches in a way that isn’t optimal for your own body. Either you seek help from a professional, or you spend a lot of time figuring it out on your own. Think of it this way: You may have a problem with the same symptoms as someone else’s, but from a biomechanical perspective, the root cause could be entirely different. There’s no guarantee that the same stretching exercise will work for you. I spent months doing stretches and exercises that didn't do shit until I figured out what works for me.
>>
>>77478139
I stretch at home in front of the tv. Just some basic ass yoga moves for 15 minutes every day. Well worth doing.
Before a workout I would do a dynamic warm up. Some light cardio and body weight movements.

That's my routine and I'm sticking to it.
